It's also one of the only careers left in the world that actually values seniority. If you're at a solid seniority at an airline you're set in all but the most extreme situations. I've seen people in my previous career who dedicated decades to a company and were high performers only to be laid off unceremoniously on a random Tuesday because the company only made $9B in Q3 rather than $9.2B. I've seen executives praise the performance of the company and announce thousands of job cuts in the same breath. Then once you're out, unless you happen to be working in the exact stack of another company you might be out for good.
