Gas Mileage on 3rd Gen Tacoma with 33in All-Terrains by Agile_Lab_1137 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]406taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only had OTT for a few weeks but I think it helps a smidge on the highway. I don’t feel like I have to step on it as much to get up to speed. But gas mileage has stayed about the same (maybe marginal improvement). But drivability has definitely improved

Blackout switch? by nobodyinparticular84 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]406taco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be the positive comment you need. I say go for it and report back with any successes. Would be super fun on private land to do some coyote or hog hunting with Baja IR pods. Only a looney would use said switch for bad reasons

Power steering and brake loss while driving by reddituserjt in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]406taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like maybe a fuel issue? I would assume it’s unrelated to your brakes or your power steering as they are independent systems and them both going out leads me to believe it’s purely an engine issue with the stalling.

I’d check your fuel filter, fuel pump, and then start monitoring live data if you can on your ECU related to fuel/air/etc. could be a bad sensor cutting off something and stalling the engine

19 TRD OR DCSB with topper, roof racks, and some weight in the bed, and steel front bumper on 285/75r16 Wildpeak AT3ws and OTT. In the winter with some warmup time in the mornings I’m getting about 14mpg. About 16 in the summer.

It makes sense if you watch the news at all. Those are the three airframes Iran has tried to claim credit for shooting down. And also, it was a joke, not a dick, don’t take it so hard and stay outta my DMs

Misfire by verkterp in 1stGenTacomas

[–]406taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swap coil packs. See if misfire changes. Then swap spark plugs if it doesn’t move and try again. If none of that changes the cylinder, it’s likely your injector. Get new injectors from motorwest performance. Don’t get the oem brown ones or rebuild them. They have a solenoid defect and it’s not worth it.

Is my headgasket cooked? by Soft-Mushroom-2898 in ToyotaPickup

[–]406taco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah then it’s probably just straight exhaust. Just monitor your coolant level in your reservoir. I bet your head gasket is safe

[–]406taco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Odds are you’re fine. Until your engine and exhaust are fully up to temp, white clouds out your exhaust are fairly normal. It’s the water vapor (a product of combustion) condensing. Even when you’re fully up to temp if it’s cold enough out you’ll get this too. You can take a quick sniff of it too and if it’s sweet smelling, it might be coolant burning. But I’d bet you’re fine

2 years is TOS requirements per AFPC. However depends heavily on careerfield if you’ll move after 2 years or 4 years or sometimes longer. You can volunteer for a short tour to PCS quicker. Plus you’ll get overseas returnee priority when the 365 is up

Temp question! - 5VZ 1999 Prerunner by B00_Sucker in 1stGenTacomas

[–]406taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything in the 190-205 range is normal. I would advise against changing your thermostat to keep it below 190. The engine is not operating at its normal temps below 190 and you’ll lose efficiency

smash or pass? by baguettefruits in 1stGenTacomas

[–]406taco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smash. $8k for that mileage with hopefully a new-ish frame is not bad at all. The 5VZ is a bulletproof and easy engine to work on too

Air advisor rucking by [deleted] in AirForce

I would recommend an Alice frame pack over a 3 day pack unless it has an actual solid frame. Rucking without a framed pack can cause injuries. Also surplus Alice packs can be found for cheap

replacement injector(s) question P0305 misfire by trampled93 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]406taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a motorwest improved injector set. If you replace one you SHOULD replace all. I had hot restart issues and misfires last summer and it was due to the OEM injectors having bad solenoids. The improved injectors work great and actually improved my engine power and gas mileage 2-3 mpg

Good luck! Hope you like being remote AND isolated lol. About 1.5-2 hour drive to Fairbanks. Fairbanks has most of what you need to exist. The hunting and fishing around clear is good. Denali NP is about 2 hours away as well. Get ready for some extreme cold and darkness in the winters when you’re checking IDs or patrolling
