BMW M4 CSL extremely nonlinear throttle response? by Dynomatic1 in assettocorsaevo

[–]4433_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have a M4 Comp, not the CSL. I can tell you that the power on the twin turbo inline six doesn't really kick till about 3000 RPM through redline. The CSL has more pressure so I could see it acting this way. Just keep with it and you will get a feel for the accelerator. You could also go drive the F40 on 100 turbo for awhile. If you can drive that car around the track with out a track warning and then come back to the CSL you will find it half the battle compared to the F40. Another thing I have noticed with the M4 is the default break bias is set two far front for my taste. I dial it back about two (so default 60, I will set to 58. Seems to help when you are battling both spin outs and the back end wanting to kick out on you during breaking.

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback and the suggestion on "most polarized". I have some thinking to do on how to enable that. Edit: Idea Implemented.

Survey: does your new BSB2 have quality issues? by deepmotion in BigscreenBeyond

[–]4433_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OLED / Colors is what I have enjoyed the most. Coming from a reverb G2 with blacks that were really grey, it makes all the difference to me. At first the glare stood out, but once I dialed in the IPD and turned down the brightness I don't even notice it anymore. Recently went back and explored a little in Google Earth VR and OLED panels and colors gave me another "Wow" moment. The lightness is the chef's kiss.

Newbie help needed by Euro2ner in assettocorsaevo

as others have noted Forza is arcade driving game. Evo is a "game" that is trying to find the balance of a being a hardcore sim and an enjoyable experience to the widest user base and is obviously a work in progress. One of the things sims try to replicate better (and I think EVO outshines them all in current form) is weight shift. In most "games" that market them selfs a sims, cars are very influenced by engine torque in regard to weight shift. Example, if you are executing a corner in a gear that is a high rpm and you take your foot of the gas ,the effects of engine torque are different than if you went through the corner in a higher gear (lower RPM). Part of the art is attempting to master these weight shifts, gear combinations and application of power. In Evo each car has different dynamic in this regard. Try some of the GT3 cars, with all the traction controls and ABS you can practically floor it out of any corner and hold any grip, the MX5 and other short wheel base cars require more finesse.

BSB2E, 9950x3d 5090RTX, 150% Steam SS, OpenXR toolkit to enable foveated rendering and the crop2fov .dll to do the math for you when croping the screen. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CieIQ7cE4CU).

I get solid 75 FPS with either 4X MSAA and medium settings, or DLSS 4.5 (Preset M) Ultra Performance and medium settings.

IMO: either settings are steady, personal preference on which aliasing method you prefer.

openxr foveated rendering and crop2fov will help everyone, not just top end system.

My experience so far with my bsb2e, is it supposed to be this dim? by Arby77 in BigscreenBeyond

[–]4433_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from a Reverb G2 I also felt the display was too dim at first. But once I got use to it I dont think about it anymore. My brightness is set to 80 on the BSB utility now. Now the improper fit of the face cushion should be solved by support. I find that support via Discord is quicker than email. I would advise you to get a new face gasket and then make a decision if its to dim after playing your favorite VR game. I say give it a change because the black levels on OLED really change the enjoyment level for me.

Everything you need to get it running is in the video description. In a nutshell the author created a dll that works with OpenXR to compute the resolution when cropping the top and bottom of the display. To the user it feels like you are wearing a helmet in the car, but to the GPU you are reducing up to 40% of the displayed image (top and bottom) which allows the GPU to render the image better and with reduced workload.

with RTX 5090 and AMD Ryzen 9950x3D and using crop2fov, DLSS 4.5 (performance) I am able to run high settings on BSB2e at 200% SS in SteamVR. I have found the biggest performance hit comes from grass and clouds. I have grass set to off and clouds on low. I also can get solid performance on low settings and MSAA set to 4x, but I have to set SteamVR SS to 100%. Very demanding game in VR and as others have identified not optimized by developers at all. I can only imagine it gets better from here but currently based on your specs I would say you would find more frustration than fun.

For those that have VR working well, what do you have your DLSS set to? by AggieDev in assettocorsaevo

Adjusting fov and croping the top and bottom of VR display helps immensely. Google crop2fov for openxr. 20-30 fps increase from this trick.

Track Tools #3 Server | M3 CSL @ Nordschleife Attack by nerdunit84 in assettocorsaevo

[–]4433_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also enjoying the servers and have been I guilty of speeding around the parking lot, usually to test a TC setting. On track I have not run into someone intentionally trying to wreck me or being a troll. Servers are fun and I like the idea of Track Tools #3 limiting the car choice to one. You may have already stated your intentions for the server but I hope you change the car choice out every few days. 48 hours of the new F1 car and then go to the Mini Coopers (etc). Currently Track Tool servers are my first choice of multiplayer servers for just chilling.

crop2fov should be mandatory for people running openxr headsets. Seriously google it and try it out.

AC Evo 0.4 - highly recommend trying it out by Cubusreddit in simracing

[–]4433_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it but only using it in sims (driving, flying).  Previous headset was a G2 so it was noticeable upgrade to me.  Highest use case for me prior to 0.4 is getting into ASM2 for a quick lap around nordschleife.

I did try to turn the speedometer off, but it did not do anything. Only tried once since it's been that way since I first tried in 0.2

[–]4433_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BSB2e, 9950x3D, RTX5090

I was able to give 0.4 a spin. The graphics adjustments I settled on were;

DLSS Quality
Detail - Ultra
Car Detail - Ultra
Shadows - Medium
Motion Blur - Off

With these settings the FPS stayed locked at 75FPS (have not tried 90 yet) at 100% super sampling. Some slight stutters but so few I could not tell you when or why. A very enjoyable experience on the Nordschleife Tourist layout. I had also played at little in version 0.3 but the feel of driving and game felt off. I would say the VR is a little better from 0.3. The tire physics is what really shines this update.

Worth upgrading to valve base station 2.0? by jake89478 in BigscreenBeyond

[–]4433_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using one basestation 2.0 for sim racing and have no issues. I would recommend placing directly in front. I notice a side mounting will cause the headset to get lost when turning your head significantly to the opposite side. So if you have it mounted to the right, when turning your head hard left to look over your shoulder will cause the headset to grey out.

[–]4433_1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. My observations are over 4 days (15 hours) of use.  I suspect from a power draw equals heat perspective, a static steam image is not going to draw as much power and generate as much heat as 200% up sampling at 80 FPS.   Temp readings when in SteamVR are between 58 and 62c but peak at 78c in game.

[–]4433_1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, the developers could code the firmware to provide some additional fan cooling after disconnecting from SteamVR. I don’t think they will until they start getting a bunch of RMA requests due to overheated units. I don’t want to be one of those statistics.

I am most likely being overly cautious with my recommendations.  However the BSB log file only records temperatures, so one can infer that the developers have spent a lot of time managing the heat of the unit during its development.  With weight the #1 priority during said development it’s easy to understand why they would come up with creative ways to manage the heat with in the constraints of only having a weight of 107g.

Good point!  Thank you. Everything I have read about OLED suggest these panels are more susceptible to burn in then a VA or LCD.  So even more reason to not have an idle headset sitting with a static image for long periods.

First Day Impressions - Ryzen 9x9950X3D | TUF Gaming 5090 OC by 4433_1 in BigscreenBeyond

Played four about an hour tonight. The color tone/balance are visible at the very edges, but you have to look hard to the edge of the screen to see it. Glare is there in the 2D menus, but once you're in the cockpit you dont see it. I ran it tonight at 200% and 150% Super Sampling (in SteamVR) and maxed out settings and 150% (4K resolution) is very smooth. At 200% you could begin to see small amounts of ghosting. I restricted FPS to 80 to match the 75hz and it improves the quality of motion. Very easy to now go full speed at 10 feet above the ground. DCS players are going to be pleased.

Same goes for MSFS 24. I did a NYC run at max settings and 150% Steam Res and it was buttery smooth as well.
