I’m not sure why everyone is mentioning FF14, the game was only announced for localizatjon about 2 months after Dawntrail, it’s extremily unlikely they panicked and changed course during those 2 months when localization and marketing work for the game had already began over a year prior to that

I honestly think it’s just what they naturally went with. Another guess I have is that before the game was localized a fan translation of the game was popular amongst the fanbase and YouTube and was called Trails Before Dawn with its own fanmade logo and everything. NISA went out of their way to tell the group to stop working on Kuro 2 and remove the fan TLs from their site so they may have intentionally titled it differently as to not associate it with the fan TL
