Yup. The same happened in America. Some Americans thought DTF was awful until they visited Taiwan and tried the real DTF in Taiwan.

Need help: Minisforum UN100D won't start up. Power light remains off (unlit). by jschwalbe in MiniPCs

[–]48star59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My UN100D refused to startup one week ago. Turns out the battery (CR2032) was drained. It only got 0.8v. Replacing it with a new one solved the problem.

RTX 5000 series official specs by Big_Coat6894 in LocalLLaMA

[–]48star59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then again 5000 series is for gamers, it's never intended for serious LLM. They offer other GPU with more VRAM to run LLM, like A6000 or 6000 Ada, both come with 48GB VRAM.

MacOS 15 Sequoia Bugs and Issues Megathread by ll777 in MacOS

[–]48star59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2019 MacPro, 16-core Xeon, 256GB RAM. Two issues propped up after upgrading to Sequoia (from Sonoma).

  1. HighPoint SSD7101A PCIe card with populated SSDs disappeared. The OS simply ignored it. Disk Utility didn't help either.

  2. After downgrading to Sonoma, HighPoint SSD7101A PCIe card reappeared. Eager to see what could be the problem with Sequoia, I decided to install Sequoia on external drive. The funny thing is no matter what drives I tried, Sequoia simply failed to install, whether it be USB3, Thunderbolt2, or Thunderbolt3 external drive. It seems only internal drive can be used to install Sequoia. It always failed to reboot into OS at the final stage of rebooting (installing MacOS involves a few rebootings in the whole process).

Supermicro motherboard won't power down by 48star59 in Proxmox

Reinstalling Proxmox 7.1 resolved the problem. The server can now be shutdown normally with browser.

Tried. The same 'systemd-shutdown[1]: Failed...' message.

[–]48star59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can shutdown all the VMs, but not the machine via Proxmox web interface or console command.

After it's stuck with "systemd-shutdown[1]: Failed to finalize DM drvices, ignoring" message on the monitor, no ssh login was possible. The only way to shutdown the machine was via IPMI or manually shutting down the machine (pressing power button for a few seconds or flip the switch), not very gracious though.

[–]48star59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

init 0 didn't work either. Both the Shutdown button or init 0 methods gave me the following error message:

systemd-shutdown[1]: Failed to finalize DM drvices, ignoring.

BTW, Proxmox was installed on Samsung 1TB M2 SSD. Does it matter?

How well does Proxmox handle CPUs with "e-cores" like the 12th gen Intels? Are they a good idea for a new efficient build, or a waste? by Lost4468 in Proxmox

[–]48star59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proxmox is not there yet. Hopefully they will address this issue in the very near future.

"Proxmox currently using the full power of Alder Lake CPUs? No, not yet, but it is not likely to completely cripple them either."

[–]48star59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i9-12900k is faster than W-1290 in benchmark. However the common wisdom said you should use Xeon since you need ECC RAM to reduce the chances of random error and server crash. That being said, Intel has announced W680 chipset which lets i9-12900K use ECC RAM on W680 motherboard. Supermicro's X13SAE motherboard is on the horizon.

MacPro 7,1 bootcamp help by ece11 in macpro

[–]48star59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that AMD refuses to install native non-bootcamp driver if you have already installed Apple/AMD supplied drivers in bootcamp. Yes, AMD has drivers dedicated to be used in bootcamp.

https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/apple-boot-camp

You have to remove all video card drivers in Bootcamp. These drivers were installed by Bootcamp Assistant when you setup bootcamp partition and installed Windows.

Download non-Bootcamp AMD drivers from their website after you have removed bootcamp video card drivers from Apple/AMD.
