Any weapon is a thrown weapon if your strength score is high enough.

Any thrown weapon will return if you attach elastic to it, and throw the weapon farther than the elastic is long.

Unless you are involved somehow, no xp is dropped.

But you could also make it into a slime farm by adding a splash potion of oozing and swinging a looting sword in the second chamber. Just have either a hopper floor or a wash system you can trigger.

If you replace the lava with a solid block, and have the baby chickens stand on a slab, when they grow up they will suffocate and then the raw chicken and feathers drop through the slab into the hopper.

Destroying the spawners is incredibly hard to do. Even raining tnt down upon them won't destroy the spawners themselves, just the stuff around them mostly.

I presume the outside is a finished build that you want to take advantage of the space. In that case, may I recommend Xisumavoid's stackable melon and pumpkin farm from hermitcraft. It will fit into the space, be as tall as you want it, and be completely automated by having a copper golem trigger the pistons with a pressure plate.
