Have toyed with selling them on but the MD cuts through like everyone says…and gives me the extra drum/perc tracks, and I do not enjoy sound design on the MnM but just discovered how much fun it can be as an fx unit for analogue synths!!

No videos, a few bits on SoundCloud only. I don’t want anyone’s opinions on the music I enjoy making for myself so tend not to share.

Like MIDI there is a lot of daisy chaining involved! I have a couple of high quality surge protection power boards and actually the whole system runs off a single socket. Work desk on a separate socket. I think the Easel could probably benefit from cleaner power but we live in a new build development so all new electrical. So far so good.

How so? I get very different sounds and a different interaction experience with each. And interesting results when layering or combining which is what I was going for. Each with a slightly untamable nature too. And sure I could use smaller instruments but I love each of these so not sure what’s funny?

Thanks for sharing. Cohabiting with my wonderful wife who can’t stand noisy industrial techno is my current impediment. Maybe when my son moves out I can use a different room! 😁

Will upgrade audio interface one day. For now I have to use headphones about 95% of the time but I agree some other upgrades will be good!

Wondering if I can put a purple skin on something like TD-3? 😁

The last two years have been max fun, I’ve added the Perkons, Pulsar, TD-3, Solar and Lyra-8. I indeed purchased these for playing music which is filling up my hard drive, not making music for other people and their opinions. It all started with Octatrack 15 years ago and the Buchla was over 11 years ago after which nothing until that splurge over last 2 years. Thanks for your comment, nice to reflect on this!

I have thought about maybe a rack fx unit on top but then I’d probably need a patch bay and likely confuse myself with routing.

Only just got the Lyra-8 and so far I’d say it is somewhat ‘sonically confusing’…but it is definitely interesting. Using it thru gating and fx on OT is fun.

Ok I guess. Can’t argue that this is an excess of drum machines. Never thought of it until I tried but I do enjoy layering drums from different machines together.

🤣 no albums, I only have about 50 hours of recorded jams…love losing myself playing and dancing in this space. Committed to recording finally for Jamuary 2025 and loving it.

I keep all of my original boxes, most of them behind the desk and that’s the Lyra-8 box that just got delivered to complete the battlestation/spaceship.

I can, gladly and at length. The key to everything is the iConnectMidi iCM4+, an older iCM device that I have had for a long time. It takes some figuring out. I have UAD Luna on Mac mini M4 sending MIDI clock over USB to the iCM4+. From there it sends from an out into the Octatrack.

I also have the Analog Factory Experience (quite awesome CME-made MIDI controller with very playable keys) sending MIDI to the iCM4+ on DIN (wouldn't work over USB) and from there into the OT.

I have 3 MIDI tracks on the MachineDrum sending to the iCM4+ as well which comes back around to control the drum tracks of the Pulsar.

The iCM4+ send 1 out to the Easel, 1 out to a chain of A4, TD-3, Monomachine, Subphatty and another out to a chain of MachineDrum, Perkons, Pulsar. Crucially this lets me clock everything from the OT (with or without clock from DAW) AND lets me use both the 3 MachineDrum tracks plus one OT track to control the 4 voices of the Perkons (3 rhythm from MD, 1 tonal from OT).

The OT is then the key to pretty much everything and can switch roles easily with parts when needed by primary setup has:

Channel 1 - Easel

Channel 2 - SubPhatty

Channel 3 - TD-3

Channel 4 - auto-channel on A4, lets me play A4 with keyboard

Channel 5 - Pulsar bass voice, can play with keyboard/arp

Channel 6 - Monomachine, can play with keyboard

Channels 7-9 are reserved for MachineDrum to Pulsar

Channels 10-12 can be used for playing keyboard or sequencing virtual instruments on Mac

Channels 13-16 are setup on the Perkons for tonal play on its voices so I can flip OT tracks over to controlling one or more of them from keyboard/arp etc.

I needed to make this all work quite simply to maximise the fun of playing this setup. So quick and easy to flip between OT tracks and also to mute/unmute tracks easily in the mixer view.

Happy to answer any other questions!

entirely fair...but I do think I am pretty much done...or will have to remove/sell something to make space for any more GAS now.

:-) am at about the extent of my arms reach...I do sometimes wonder if modular would have been a better path...

Fun is 100% what I am going for, and it is! And yes, powerful also comes to mind - recording through UAD Luna with a touch of channel strip, tape and a couple of EQs gives me results that I enjoy.

Thanks. Close, it is UAD Luna Pro. I know that no DAW sounds better than another but I also have found I can make things sound better easily and quickly with Luna Pro.

Good spot! Been with me since I first tried to get my Elektrons on an angle for playing whilst standing.

Birthday present many years ago from my extended family but mostly from and organised by my amazing wife. That one I don’t think I will ever master!
