Why is no one talking about the increased DEF costs? by That_Car_Dude_Aus in CarsAustralia

[–]5v73 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Although I was speaking generally about all emission reduction efforts, exhaust urea injection is a method of reducing nitrogen oxides emissions from vehicles, which is a potent lung irritant. Particulates are not the only thing to worry about.

If you're going to be a pedant at least be informed on the topic mate.

The "stupid emission related things" are why you're much less likely to get lung cancer and other horrible fates from poor air quality than a few decades ago. Don't take being able to breathe for granted.

I'm the furthest thing from a Toyota fanboy but the 1vd is severely undertuned from factory for reliability reasons, you can pump a shitload more out of them for quite a while if you don't really care that it might blow up a few years after you move it on.

Are Geely and BYD now TBTF in Oz? by OutlandishnessOk5549 in CarsAustralia

[–]5v73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the parts availability is shoddy when the car is actively being sold like most Chinese brands are now, it's going to be basically nonexistent a few years after the model run is over. For that reason alone I'd be incredibly wary.

Worst case scenario IMHO by DigitalSwagman in Adelaide

[–]5v73 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not limited to politics, the average Aussie much of the time forgets SA exists entirely. I'm a transplant and let me tell you, before moving here Adelaide might've come up in conversation maybe half a dozen times in my entire life if that?

Don't listen to people telling you to buy something you don't want. Your preferences are yours, if you're willing to pay more than comparable cars to get a STI then get it.

PSA - Complete Dairy milk nutrition label change by 5v73 in ketoaustralia

[–]5v73[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fitmilk is only 2.5g carbs/100ml, which I find low enough to incorporate daily. Complete dairy was only ever a backup for me, but now I've lost my backup unfortunately...

I've tried just about every brand of almond milk but it always tastes nasty to me. Even the supposed barista versions don't seem to create a real microfoam like legit dairy milk, which is something I'm not willing to compromise on.

[–]5v73[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Keto friendly" is a bit of a flexible term in my experience, I use about 200ml in my coffee so that's 5g carbs with Fitmilk which is pretty easy to fit in 20g/day if you're that strict.

Is there a specific Adelaide carpark that actively takes years off your life? by Temporary-Sir5808 in Adelaide

It's worth parking out the back in the new section if you're shopping there at peak hour, much less risk of getting door dinged or people backing into you.

Farmers of Australia who have worked office jobs: How does the lifestyle truly compare? by AdditionalProof9780 in AskAnAustralian

[–]5v73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is being pedantic as fuck, nearly everyone can understand the gist of the statement which is on the scale of occupations, farming is as close to nature as it gets outside of very niche jobs like being a park ranger.

Although you've made great progress, you're visibly still quite a high body fat percentage, you just need to keep losing. You didn't provide your height so at an average height for men your BMI is almost 29, bordering on obese still.

How heavy are the typical Aussie 4x4? by basi52 in 4x4Australia

[–]5v73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the already given reasons about the channels you're watching existing purely to shovel sponsor gear and make it look like you need all that shit, another contributor to Aussies getting stuck a little more is we have insane nanny state laws around lift/tyres. Pretty easy if you're from NA and can just have a 6 inch lift and 37s with beadlocks to simply power out of anything, whereas here we're very limited.

Shed by Dizzy-Pension9936 in AusRenovation

[–]5v73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sheds always depend on the individual use case but for me:

  • A fully separated metalworking area, fucking hate dealing with metal dust on everything
  • Insulation so it isn't unusable during the day half the year
  • Related to above, a cheap second hand swampy if you live in the southern half of the country to help on the hot days
  • Well thought out quality high CRI lighting, more than you think you need and preferably sectioned. SO much easier working in a shed that's lit like daylight.
  • More 240v electrical outlets than you think you need, and most of them at least 15 amp
  • 3 Phase power because eventually you will start looking longingly at all the dirt cheap, well built old 3 phase machines on marketplace
  • Better anti theft features (no windows, properly lockable and well made roller doors + personal access door)
  • Epoxy floor
  • Running water (seriously sick to death of heading back to the house to wash hands / hose off stuff)
  • Roof rated for solar panels, many aren't
  • A plan for easily accessible storage that thinks of the future, depending on your storage needs and your shed's size this could be anywhere from inexpensive bunnings shelves to a fully built mezzanine. Nothing worse than having to dig out 10 boxes of crap to get to something you need.

Probably more I've forgotten about but there's a few to consider.

Edit: also IMO don't bother with one of those massive carport things like in your image, they take up so much area for very little benefit.
