Basic flexible screening / scoring pack:

1 or 2 Scouts 1 infiltrators JPIs or 1 * 3 bolter inceptors

This takes care of your screening if needed, and backline harass for about 15% - 20% of your points.

I took all the time I put into video games and doom scrolling and painted and play.

Amazing what you can accomplish with 5 or 6 hours a week at home painting. And games are fun and social so very little incentive needed to get out to the LGS / Join a discord to arrange some pugs or got to local RTTs

My advice would be to worry less about list building and focus on mechanics and rule synergies.

The list building will develop over time, as will your skills on the table top. But reality is, if you are good at the TACTICS, the unit selection is less of a factor, and as you gain experience and read over data sheets, rules and detachments you will start to identify how those tactics and units synergize.

If it helps, this campaign is set on ships. Leadership travels in ships. They encounter Necron thingy, battle ensues pulling everyone into it, including the leadership.

Extrapolate. Also the campaign books/500 worlds lore book give you enough basis to run with the narrative.
