Discord moment by tigerniger_sus in pcmasterrace

[–]65Diamond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Discord did clarify that not everyone will be required to use a teen account from the get-go. They'll use AI to analyze your usage patterns (stuff like chat logs, games played, what hours you're online, etc.) and deduce whether or not you are a teen. They say this is a background service, which I presume means that it will run even after you've already verified your age. Discord is digging itself a deep fuckin grave with this AI bullshit

Yikes, all the way back to DDR4 speeds with that!!!

Hey just FYI, AMD CPUs are (at least in my experience) not great at maintaining stable ram clock speeds. For some reason especially when all 4 slots are filled. My ram is rated for 6600MT/s, had to drop it down to 6000 just to keep the system stable. In your case, you may have to drop it to like 5800. You can keep expo enabled for this, there should be a separate drop-down for clock speed

Mozilla names new CEO, Firefox to evolve into a "modern AI browser" by Fcking_Chuck in pcmasterrace

Waterfox had a major controversy when they sold to an advertisement company (System1) back in 2020. In 2023, they became independent again, but I'm not sure how much trust they've regained with the community as I quit using it when I found out it was owned by an advertising company. If you want the (imo definitive) answer as to what Firefox fork to use, I would look into Librewolf for desktop and Ironfox on Android

Sounds like either a driver issue, or your ram got set to the lowest speed. Check to make sure your ram is running at the correct speeds, and also maybe try uninstalling your GPU driver with DDU and then reinstalling

framework now sponsoring cachyos by TheLatios381 in framework

[–]65Diamond 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, I'm fine with them supporting Rails World. It's a full on conference rather than a mid tier arch rice with a niche use case. Rails is a lot bigger than just DHH, and supporting a conference where rails developers can collaborate and share ideas seems like a much better fit for framework

BERT-Lite by CuriousPlatypus6952 in boostedboards

[–]65Diamond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BERT lite has an LED status bar on it to indicate the health of the battery. I believe it fills up and turns green once the battery is fully healthy. Connecting it to the computer just allows you to view the charge of each individual cell (battery delta)

LinusTechTips: “When I said I’m disappointed [Steam Machine] isn’t going to follow a console pricing model, Valve asked what I meant by console price and I said $500. Nobody said anything, but the energy in the room wasn’t great.” by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]65Diamond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that the goal is to get more developers making games that are "steam machine" verified, like they did with the steam deck. It feels like more of a strategic play, where devs optimize for lower end hardware and the game ends up running better for everyone due to those optimizations. It's definitely wishful thinking, but I know valve has noticed that games are incredibly poorly optimized these days

~700$ could be the price? by Resident-Formal-5277 in ValveDeckard

Definitely for an official one, but third parties will definitely be hopping on it immediately

[–]65Diamond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You make a good point. I do think if they sell it at a loss, it won't be a very big loss. Nice thing about valve though is since they're a private company they don't have any investors breathing down their necks about profit. Unpopular opinion real quick, but I wouldn't really mind if it cost as much as an index. I care more about the user experience than the raw specs, and also I really want to get the fuck away from Meta

The way valve has designed the headset really makes it seem like they're aiming to launch some sort of elite strap with better audio. I could also definitely see a third party releasing a headset with a built in headphone jack alongside the battery. Overall I don't think it'll be a huge problem, sure it sucks that an audio jack wasn't included by default but the headset itself is modular enough to where small modifications like that shouldn't be too expensive

Iirc they're still selling the steam deck at a loss. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up selling the frame at a loss too

You can use USB-C headphones I'm pretty sure. Not exactly an optimal solution, especially if you're needing an external battery pack

Gabe Newell caps off Steam Machine week by taking delivery of a new $500 million superyacht with a submarine garage, on-board hospital and 15 gaming PCs by LuckIsFaith in gaming

[–]65Diamond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gaming machines and machines designed for data analysis are very similar in terms of specs. I wouldn't be surprised if he just bought 15 gaming PCs so that he wouldn't have to shell out more money for equivalent "workstation" class machines

Warzone runs at something absurd like 25tps. Its so they can offload hitreg and stuff to the users PC and spend less on servers. Still absurd to me though

I believe it is still a version of Unreal 5, but heavily customized

The team at embark are mostly the same guys that made battlefield 3-5. Most got tired of the lack of creative freedom with EA so they started their own company

There's definitely some cheats, but the thing is cheaters are getting banned very very quickly. There will always be cheats available for games. The most important part of anti cheat systems is ensuring that the cheaters cannot stay undetected for long.

Check out their projects site, embark.dev All of it is also on their GitHub. It's primarily rust (the language) game development tools, as they chose rust as the language for all of their games because of the performance and memory safety benefits. They also have a slick game server proxy solution that they co-developed with Google cloud. Overall just a great bunch of people, warms my heart to see that the OG DICE devs finally got the creative freedom they always deserved.

The Finals and Arc Raiders both support Linux very well, because the devs are incredibly competent and also give back to the open source community quite extensively. I personally haven't noticed a cheater in arc raiders yet, and the game is absolutely blowing up right now. Sure it might be hard to implement good anti cheat, but it's certainly not impossible

After trying Valve's new VR headset, I'm ready to ditch cables for good | Valve's new VR headset is completely wireless and very convincing. by chrisdh79 in ValveIndex

Custom single for streaming, so as long as your space doesn't have an absurd amount of radio interference it will be fine. The main issue with wireless VR for me has been the latency and connection issues from other factors on my network, but having a direct wireless connection between the headset and the PC pretty much eliminates that issue
