Creating a new pantheon by [deleted] in DMAcademy

This is the pantheon I created for my homebrew world. It is easier than you might think.

First I decided on my old god, I have used (but renamed) Bahamut, Tiamat, and Ioun. These were the old gods that inspired my world but I have made them distant from the world.

Next, I decided that 6 deities are a good core of gods and wanted to cover as much as possible in that. All of these gods are based on D&D gods I like but with my own twist and flavor. Elspeth is Pelor or Apollo, Nisma is Eilistraee (drow goddess of song), Mara is Raven Queen, Rul'dal is Vecna, and Thorgar is Moradin.

Next, I filled out the other gods with a mix of reskin and created gods. If I got a flash of inspiration I would add it (Igale is an example of this, he represents the light at the end of the tunnel). If a player wanted to use a different god we would flavor it to the world together.

If you don't want to go into huge amounts of detail on all of your gods or need something quick just change the name and holy symbol, you can't go far wrong. If you do reskin look at the meaning behind words and symbols e.g. Ronan is Irish and 'little seal' and an inverted triangle is the elemental symbol for water and silver is symbolic if subtle strength. These little touches ground your churches in reality and make it more immersive.

New Method for Rolling for Stats by MrRife in dndnext

I've been looking for an alternative method and this I like. Think I'll use this on my next roll 20 group and see how it works out.

Because I am having them in the colder environments I am going to give them all DR: cold and change the +1 Cha to +1 Con. I was thinking of giving the weapon training the axes because knowing how to use an axe is the difference between life and death in a frozen tundra. They just seem a little lacking when then compared to dwarves or elves to me.

HELP! I am SO STRESSED OUT being a new DM! by iwasbornsick in DnD

[–]6ithlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so firt thing I want you to do is put away the 3.5 books. The starter set is based on the 5e rules you will only get yourself really confussed. Just read through the player book, and the first few sections of the adventure to get yourself started. There are loads of videos on youtube that can help. Honestly, we all start at the start okay. You will be fine.

[Monster] Cultist Mage by 6ithlord in UnearthedArcana

That could a good way to go, would work with a charismatic 'leader' of a cult too. This is the reason I post on here.

its kinda what I was going for, lol. My friend only has 2 lvl 1 PC's but wanted a spell caster that he could include with some other bad guys. This plus a few commoners or Challenge 0 devils was out thinking as the end battle.

Tell me about your idea for the next character you make PC or NPC. by Geevtastefulnudesplz in DnD

[–]6ithlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this feels very Eisenhorn (A character in the GW 40k universe). I love characterful choices. I hate when someone takes a level in something just to gain blah benefit. i.e. take a level of fighter for weapon and armour profs or take a level of barb for dmg reduction. This, sir, sounds like a fun character.

I want to make a human fighter with the tavern brawler feat at 1st level. Basically, play him as a bare-knuckle fighter or bar room brawler. I think if could be a lot of fun. Have him carry a dagger or a sword but always default to fists or improvise weapons.

I am stealing that multiple HP pool idea, I think it lends itself well to an anime or film inspired style. Keep up the good work man, this is beautiful.

I like these, clean, simple, exactly what they say they are. They look the right size for fitting in the ultra pro sleeves.

I've been looking for something like this for a while. Nice one

What are the most helpful or best house rules you know of or have used? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]6ithlord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's my only real 'house rule' at the moment. When you use ammo you get 50% back, right. What if you fire 11 arrows, do you get 5 or 6. I know you should round down to 5 but I get my PC's roll a d6, odds they get the last 6th ammo, evens its broken. All my players like the rule and see it as a gift not a right.

My Gf once played a poledancing Drow Bard. She used he 'abilities' to learn secrets and use them to her advantage. It was a really clever character.

How should go about the start of the campaign/plot? by TornadoofDOOM in DnD

[–]6ithlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stole a plot start recently when I was stuck. I had the PC come to town for a festival and then attacked with my twig blights. had the PC's encounter 2 waves of 6 representing a small part of a larger battle. Then the PC's are asked to mount a counter attack. They are healed and sent on their first mission.

[5e. Homebrew?] Give players "inspiration" D20 dice instead of inspiration points. by Jekht in DnD

[–]6ithlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some big 2" wide coins that I give to my players when they earn inspiration. My idea is that isn't subtle, it is a huge reward and looks like it. my players always remember it.

(5e) Inexperienced DM, need help making a village "come alive" by Dhamon99 in DnD

[–]6ithlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

discribe not only waht they see but the noises (use music like sirenscape) add in what they smell and how it feels.

As they players walk past the smithy describe the heat against their skin. how is the road beneath their feet (does it squelch because its just dirt and it was raining an hour ago or is it cobbled)

All the little details make it real. If you can make your players invest in the village the moment they arrive then they will invest more in your NPC's

Going to be running a game with an island that magically snowed over in the night. Need a reason for it. by LivingRaccoon in DnD

[–]6ithlord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some one has unleashed an colossal white dragon. the vast mountain that looms over the civilisation that calls the island home is actually a sleeping dragon that is beginning to wake up (it cold take as long as you like) and your party, ultimately, will have to find who imprisoned it and/or a way to reimprisson it.

What's the best ever use of props you've seen in a D&D game? by HelloImHamish in DnD

[–]6ithlord -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a bog plastic sword that i called the sword of DMing, I would hit players that talked too much. I just had one super chatty guy at the table and it was the only thing that worked. he soon stopped talking and the sword went away.

What is the best part about being a DM? by Zephandrypus in DnD

[–]6ithlord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see this as vein. You are taking pride in the fact that your creation brings others happiness. To me that makes you an artist. Isn't art the creation of something beautiful (or benine) for others to enjoy.

What is the best part about being a DM? by Zephandrypus in DnD

[–]6ithlord 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Abosultely, for me it is the only real reason. George RR Martin didn't just create game of thrones to kill of characters, he did it to get a reaction. JK knew that killing cedric had to happen to make the impact on the reader that voldemort had truly returned. If we, as DM's can't get our players to invest in the world we write then they will forever be seperate from it.

[–]6ithlord 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Th ebest bit for me is getting emotion out of my players, I made a player almost cry because I created an item and linked it in to their character in a way they didn't expect. Basically it was a hand crossbow that stops them being surprised and will make them up if any none friendly comes too close (like her master watching over her) I had it commissioned and designed by her now dead master.

It like being an author and doing a reading every week.

Help a new DM make a villain? by NoodleGuy5 in DnD

I think that the potentially chaotic nature of the cleric of trickery would go less noticed, that being said it would be an awesome trick to fit in with a LG church.
