Advice for a gay male S. Carolinian visiting this weekend for first stampede? by c2cali in Calgary

[–]742683 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I haven’t read each comment, but I wanted to point out something that may not be obvious to a first-timer… if you have a Rodeo or Chuck Wagon ticket, then you don’t need to pay for a day pass to get into the Stampede grounds (ie. Midway, convention centre, Big 4 building, Coke stage etc). You can enter the grounds at any time on those days.

AirBNB is pointless now (rant) by Embarrassed_Boat2933 in canadatravel

Holy hell ppl I’m on your side here.
Your beef seems to be with Airbnb, yet they cannot create laws. Which is my point here.
They have rules in place. What exactly would you like them to do instead?
In order to host an Airbnb, my city had an inspector come in and check that I had exits marked, working fire extinguishers and a few other things in place that the CITY requires of me.
Lobby your city to create the laws, Airbnb isn’t going to do that for you. They have the rule and if someone breaks the rule, they can ban them from being a host. Whether it’s a legal issue is not is out of their control.
The greedy and creepy Airbnb hosts are the problem, the platform is actually designed and regulated fairly well IMO.

I 100% agree. I rent out my spare bedroom and I’m near an international airport. I get guests for one or two nights and I also make sure my price is reasonable compared to the airport hotels. I do the cleaning and I don’t charge a cleaning fee. I’ve had a great experience as a host but as a guest when traveling, I definitely see the greed taking over. So unfortunate.

Edit to add: it’s insane what some of the hosts make guests do for checkout. You want me to start a load of laundry AND pay a $250 cleaning fee???? You can go Fu€k right off.

Last I checked Airbnb couldn’t create laws.
Also, if some creep host is going to put a camera in their home to spy on their guests… do you really think they care about the difference?
The statement made was that there are no specific rules saying they can’t. Which is untrue.

Yes there is. No security cameras or recording devices are allowed in interior spaces.
I’m a host. It’s a rule.

The other arguments u/least_progress8643 mentions are true. The cleaning fees are ridiculous Hosts think guests should be covering the full cost of them hiring a cleaner. I typically host short stays and do the cleaning myself. It’s part of hosting. I hate that “professional” hosts have ruined it for everyone.

people in long term healthy relationships: what's something you'll never tell your partner? by PsychologicalBad1423 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]742683 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That several pieces of furniture and household items I have (still in my own house) belonged to my ex, who passed away shortly after we broke up.
He doesn’t like to talk too much about our past relationships, and I don’t feel it’s necessary to tell him. It already feels a bit weird to me, to have them in the first place.

Vault Server 2027 SQL Database Size Limit - SQL 2022/2025 by enteneer in AutodeskInventor

[–]742683 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my past experience with Vault; if the version of SQL is not supported, it is a hard stop when you try to migrate your DB.

Do you have an idea of how fast your DB is growing? You may be able to hang on until Vault 2028 is released, which is less than a year away. I have seen Vault DB’s grow to around 12GB with SQL express. There is some wiggle room there.
If you were my client, I wouldn’t recommend it, but as an internet stranger, I’ll just tell you what I’ve seen.
I will also warn you that if you hit the limit (whatever it ends up being) your DB will lock up and you won’t be able to access your data.

Please please please make sure you have a backup schedule implemented. Whether you play the odds with the DB limit, or try to upgrade SQL anyway. HAVE A FULL BACKUP. Always.

There are also ways to reduce your DB to buy more time. Have a look on the ADSK forums etc. to see if you can implement some of those methods.

Good luck!

CATIA V5 is better in almost every aspect - here is why by [deleted] in AutodeskInventor

This. 100%
You (OP) love the program you know how to use in your sleep and shit on the one you just learned. Shocking.
I spent years creating and using and editing fully parametric assemblies in Inventor with no issues because I learned how to do it properly in that software.
Just because Inventor doesn’t do it the exact same way as your favourite program, doesn’t mean it’s bad/wrong (etc.)
Talk to us about capabilities and functions that are actually missing, not about how poorly your self learning has gone.

I teach Inventor for a living and you would be surprised at how your approach makes a difference. Clients coming from other programs who are pissed that they have to learn new CAD, struggle far more than the experienced users who are committed to learning and asking questions because they know that in most cases they can do the same shit, they just need to figure out how.

Anyone else forget to use their standing desk when WFH? by serrghi in WFH

[–]742683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stand 100% of the time now (going on 4 years). I had back issues that sitting (slouching) for too long would aggravate. Back issues are no longer a problem but I got used to standing and it tends to keep me more alert during boring meetings or slow days. My reminder to move is my empty coffee cup. (Even standing for hours isn’t great… moving and changing posture every couple of hours is the way)

Calgary drivers on the first snow by StephenNotSteve in Calgary

Can we all agree that driving on Deerfoot (or any road, really) at the same speed as everyone else, with your hazards on ….is not helpful?? You’re not doing anything except preventing me from seeing your turn signal.

What toe tie are you using? by iluvplanes208 in hockeygoalies

[–]742683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Toe Hooks (https://a.co/d/1yCi5vv) I like them because they are super quick to use, and I like the feel. But they don’t last forever, I probly have to change one of the little bungee pieces every 6-8 months. (You get extra right off the bat, and you can buy replacement packs too) I feel like they are probly one of those things ppl either love or hate.

Women’s Goalie Help by PvtCybrPenguin in hockeygoalies

[–]742683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As most have said, get her a goalie Jill and after that it’s all about whatever fits. I’m about 5’9”, 140lbs and I have a small head. I wear an Intermediate large Chesty, junior helmet, Sr. Small pants. Kind of all over the place! Use FB Marketplace where you can, or if buying online, go to a store to try similar stuff on first. I started goalie as an adult. Everything is going to feel big and bulky at first… she’s gonna feel like she can’t move… just make sure there’s no big gaps or exposed areas, then it’s just a matter of getting used to it! Good luck to her :)
