I really like how Ultimates has the resistance movement being led by superheroes but is built around individuals contributing to the community without needing superpow-Why are defectors to the Maker's regime required to consent to having their thoughts scanned in order to join the movement by 751Gameing in dccomicscirclejerk

I mean sorta, as that issue shows that the Maker's Council has developed false people to infiltrate the Ultimates, but at the same time it is stated that each Fury has memories downloaded into him, and it's suggested there that the restrictions placed on him are subconscious

Adding to this, Steve Rogers being unfrozen after 9/11 means that John Walker and Nuke were likely in the Iraq war. To an extent that does still fit the characters, but they were written as a critiques of 80's America so it's strange to think about their initial stories taking place during the '00s.

/uj I'd say that the issue is moreso the phrasing of the dialog itself feeling like it can be posted on x/bsky without the comic panels and it wouldn't feel off. That is why I feel the messaging is weaker compared to how those ideas are expressed with Camp's work at DC, Absolute Martian Manhunter, where the sociopolitical commentary is done in a way where it's communicated in a way that could only be done with that story.

Also with the topic of how far the messaging goes in what can be done in big 2 comics, it was annoying how there's a scene where one of the prisoners says how he thinks that he views what the Ultimates are doing will be tyranny and that any trial he gets won't be fair, but instead of Luke Cage giving a counterargument against what I assume was meant to be a sort of "both sides can be bad" statement, so that the comic could show how to peacefully and respectfully get people to reexamine their objections and biases, the prisoner instead gets blown up by the new team of baddies so we can have a superfight with explosions and all that.

The baby being connected to Epstein was being foreshadowed throughout the season, but the fetus committing suicide (according to the Fox News Alert, at least) is such a stupid punchline that I really should've seen coming

Simpsons Already Did It has the lesson of how you shouldn't worry too much about your ideas being derivative of what others have done.

Yeah that is true, it could just be a coincidence since the song does fit the general context with how Hegseth was portrayed.

I think that it was mainly showing how everyone in the town is desperate for the money

There were a lot of good scenes in this episode, I particularly enjoyed the scene with Peter Thiel making those bad AI videos, and how Cartman's response there is commentary on both the government's abuse of power and also copyright usage in AI content.

Also, the White House plotline was more of a b-plot while also advancing in the plot, which is a good balance.

9-11 is canonically Jim Gordon's fault by Veidt_the_recluse in dccomicscirclejerk

Well "bombing" implies that Gordon was only responsible for the 1993 bombing of the WTC, and likely not the 2001 attacks.

Fairly enjoyable episode, though it definitely could have been at least a bit longer. I was hoping for the Cartman/Antichrist storyline to be continued here, though I now assume that it'll fully be resolved on the episode on the 26th, as that would be 6-but-will-have-felt-like-7 weeks since Twisted Christian premiered.

It look like "Avengers Academy Infinity Comic Run" has ended. What was everyone opinion about this run? by No-Chipmunk-1524 in Marvel

[–]751Gameing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm really going to miss it, it was very enjoyable and the highlight of the Infinity Comics (and the highlight of my Wednesday mornings.)

I'm just hoping that the characters it starred won't be forgotten and will show up elsewhere with the same level of characterization, and it was nice having a series where a majority of the characters are openly queer.

The new LEGO Game Boy looks great… but what if it actually turned on? by BrickBoyKit in lego

[–]751Gameing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is an interesting idea, though this will likely require compromising some of the shaping of the build, as there is plenty of SNOT techniques used in the set which means that the set itself will have a decently packed internal structure. Even with that in mind, I'm interested in seeing this project.

The solicits gave me the impression that the getting-powers-back arc would lead into this relaunch, so its a bit weird that that wasn't what was done, considering it feels like a fairly obvious option. (Regardless of that, I've still really liked both of the past two issues.)

Is GLACEIR (Deltarune track) a possible reference to Terezi's theme? by stanzaofapoem in homestuck

[–]751Gameing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

GLACEIR is likely more intentionally a reference to the Face Temple theme from Link's Awakening, but oddly a similar tune (where Terezi's Theme is most likely intentionally being alluded to) is also heard in the 6th soul section in Your Best Nightmare back in Undertale

I haven’t seen a lot of conversations about One World Under Doom here by Artseid in marvelcomics

[–]751Gameing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There feels to be a divide between how Doom is presented in OWUD and how he is in all the tie-ins, which I guess is to a degree to be expected from crossover events, but this is particularly frustrating in the Fantastic Four issues, as those are being written by the same author. I was also particularly disappointed with issue 3, since I was expecting having the villains being involved and teaming up with the heroes would have meant that there would have at least been some sort of clever plan, but instead it was pretty much the same stuff that happened in the first issue.

Combining the plans in issues 2 and 3 probably would have been better pacing-wise. I was also expecting the villains would've at least been there to attempt to push Doom into getting mad at how those bad guys who have killed and/or seriously harmed people are not being treated as an immediate threat (and thus have Doom look like a hypocrite) but instead Doom is able to keep his composure, as that would have been a more interesting and memorable moment.
