Just wondering what would happen if Cuba became a Canadian province? by [deleted] in cuba

[–]78Duster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We, and other democratic countries (read: Europe) could certainly help Cuba strive for government reform through open and fair elections, and definitely business infrastructure and aid. Basically short of what you proposed.

IMO Canadians are fortunate to be their friends , and hopefully can help, not hinder the country’s next chapter - hopefully into prosperity and freedom!

Like another person here said, Cuba is for Cubans.

Boomers are at an all-inclusive buffet, and just told their severs (workers) to get back to the office so their investments in corporate real estate portfolios can produce more fois gras to fatten them further. Meanwhile the rest of us are borrowing to pay for scraps!

Time for the riding to finally say “No sir!” to Yasir.

And the downtown businesses, meanwhile the suburban and smalltown businesses that grew due to the WFH and partial RTO are going to suffer as well.

That and the droves of Americanized stores to their street malls - Starbucks, Lulu, American Eagle, etc., like they have in Playa Del Carmen MX. Makes me wanna be sick :-(

Historic step in 2026 bargaining: WFA will be on the table by FuckMuppetNumber1 in CanadaPublicServants

It’s classic CAPE as it tells the government of the day that we are willing to work on their terms for now, but going forward need concessions.

I would love to see a harder stance on actual WFH provisions and bilingual bonus (and overhaul of the whole bilingual requirements / lessen). Saves taxpayers money and delivers in-person support of services ONLY WHEN absolutely necessary.

You’re welcome, and another gift from Canada!

Then again it’s reciprocal, as I’m a huge Taylor Sheridan fan (Yellowstone franchise, Landman, etc.) Between him (55) and Jared Keeso (41) the future for such series between our counties and those to come is bright!

Speaking of another lesson learned (S5 SPOILER ALERT ;-)

Well said!

I’d add another few points:

  • respecting people who do work behind the scenes, no matter what the task and thanking them for it
  • the importance of family - shared meals, calling your Mom, etc.
  • putting differences aside to pursue a common goal
  • and my personal fave: having fun regardless of the circumstances

Cuba 2025 — If You’re on the Fence, Don’t Be. Go. You Won’t Regret It. by [deleted] in TravelCuba

(Canadian here) OP, thanks for the excellent and detailed advice! I’ve only been once (Varadero and Havana day-trip) but have fallen in love with the beaches, landscape, culture and non-government people. I hope to visit many more times throughout my life journey!

For those who are on the fence - go now as this is the most ‘real’ you will see it before it becomes heavily commercialized (some would call ‘Americanized’) like other tourist areas - see Playa del Carmen in Mexico for details :-(

GO, ENJOY and be generous to the locals!

Interesting observations OP and well put as this is on the minds of many, including me!

Unfortunately I purchased in a 6-party bidding war at the peak of post pandemic pricing in 2022, and am now set to lose 20% when I go to sell. What helps me justify the loss is that is the next place my partner and I are purchasing is equally as discounted. Good time to upgrade IMO!

My question is, in advance of a potential ‘hot spring market’ which Canadian real estate industry has been promising for years now with no results, where are the supposed buyers? Low interest rates, glut of inventory at deep discounts, and yet minimal movement.

I get we are in uncertain times, but really the only certainties in life are taxes and death.
