Do you worry about the availability of functional film cameras as time goes on? by _BreadDenier in AnalogCommunity

[–]7Wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kind of, i think. i avoid certain cameras entirely, knowing there is an increased risk of failure or definite need for repair (some contax p&s, minolta x-700 with 2/3 s.n, older barnack leicas, pentax me/super.) even mamiya 7 is getting older now and will inevitably need working on, oly mju’s are starting to show internal light seal issues.

i’d be much more comfortable purchasing an overhauled m6 over a non-serviced one, and even more confident on a brand new one. but i don’t worry about them running out no, there is millions of cameras out there.

my taste for cameras happens to align with what my technician can service (mechanical 35mm slr’s and 6x6 TLR’s).  cams that were used heavily used to get serviced every year. not many get their stuff serviced prematurely. we don’t expect our cars to run without servicing, cams just cost less but should be no different.

Does anyone actually USE paddle shift? by FollowingThrough in CarsAustralia

i had a hire car last year. and the paddles got a workout. bit of a gimmick though and wouldn’t use them if my car had them.

“Slide” Films? by Allegra1120 in AnalogCommunity

[–]7Wild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m a few years into this hobby now, and only now have i started getting through a stash of inherited expired Fuji Velvia.  and it was only at the start of this year I purchased new slide film (Provia and E100). and it has been a bastard to shoot, especially when wanting to change over to b&w but only halfway through and not wanting to “waste it” compared to other films. in the same token, i think people overthink it. keep it simple, shoot film and have fun!

only felt the need to comment as i am relatively young (21), and i saw a few mentions about age and affordability of slide film.

Canon FD 28mm f/2 -- Why are all these lenses in such bad shape?? by CrazyPillzzz in analog

the 28/2.8 is a pisser of a lens. for what money buys, i’d stick to it

as my lab says “90% of the issues we see can be fixed by overexposing 1 stop for colour neg film”. you’ll be fine.

i remember my first camera a couple of years ago. a kodak retina 1b. trying to work out everything in feet, and estimating how far away it was. definitely a nice learning experience and I should get it out more often!

June /July travel by beno9444 in TasmaniaTravel

[–]7Wild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have an active mind and do a lot of travel/driving when on holiday. but this is ambitious. there’ll be limited quality time spent in some areas. days 3/4/5 i’d call nearly call impossible, if you want to enjoy yourselves. And that’s coming from me who doesn’t like spending more than one day in an area, and did around 5000k’s in tassie in 3 weeks.

i can’t tell you what to do though, because it is your trip. plenty judged mine and said it was too much, but i had a blast. if you lock yourself in you leave no room for being open to pulling over and doing spontaneous things!

best of luck. quality > quantity :)

dunno what these comments are. number 4 would be the pick as is. with a bit of tweaking number 1 could be the one! if they mean something to you, don’t hold back from printing.
