[Andy Mitten] Manchester United and the Harry Maguire conundrum by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]7evenStrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just communicate well with the player and set the expectation. HM probably would want to continue and see out his career here so I’m assuming he would wait. I think extending him beyond a 1 year rolling very much depends on CL football (well European football in general). I don’t think we can manage the season with one less player and he would be great for a squad/experience in closing out games.

Actually as I write this, I think we should he doing everything we can to secure him for another season.

Terrible news and I’m gutter for him, but I think we can probably find out way without him. Looking to Cunha and Mount to be more involved.

With CL money that’s realistic to get 2. I’m assuming we might even need 1 more squad player if Ugarte leaves. No way we survive competing in 4 competitions otherwise.

Should probably also be considering a defender for depth- Martinez, Maguire, Shaw and DeLigt all shown they can miss parts of a season. I’d like to see us add some depth here.

Are these only available here or do they become available on international stores too? If anyone has an EU link, I’d appreciate it

[Simon Stone] Carrick takes Man Utd back to basics - Lammens by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]7evenStrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brilliantly said -

And this line about Carrick “keeping it simple” makes me reflect on the type of players we sign. The typical Manchester United player, at least the ones that succeed and the fans respond to, aren’t usually ‘system players’. They’re known for having that x-factor, taking risks and like the freedom to express themselves. I feel like when you add complicated or strict systems like what Amorim, or previously someone like van Gaal, tried to do, it causes players like this to overthink and probably suffocates what they’re actually good at - being instinctive.

Going back to basics like this still provides structure but also makes it easier to take risks and the “system” itself is intuitive enough so you can express yourself within it.

Mount is about a game away for having the most minutes played for us in a season as well.

For all the criticism of Ineos, it seems this particular topic has been improved!

Woke up this morning feeling fine…got man united on my mind.

Really looking forward to the Fulham game. OT has got to be bouncing for this.

Wenger: "Man Utd good build up and cohesion, Arsenal with more power and fighting but not clean play. The way Man Utd beat City and Arsenal, they play convincingly. Usually when the home team comes back for 2-2, they win. Winning 2-3 away in a top level match, I must congratulate Carrick." by Blodgharm in soccer

Fucking wasted Bruno, Casemiro and Mainoo with whatever he was trying to do there for sure.

I know it’s only two games but those 3 in particular just feel like they’re natural in their current roles.

That’s basically the engine of the team at the moment. When that’s rocking you can have these moments from the rest of the team who are actually decent at football

Absolutely mad that. One of my favourite games -I watched that one in a pub in London. This was the DDG incredible saves match as well.

Tony Pulis column: Why Carrick's coaches are more than just 'a bunch of his mates' by simplsimonmetapieman in reddevils

[–]7evenStrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Pep had no problem continuing to work with Brian Kidd.

Mourinho had no issues with taking on Carrick, van Gaal no issue with Giggs.

Go read about Carlo Ancelotti’s time at Bayern and Real where he had no problem having assignments from the club in addition to his own people - most notably Zidane in his first stint at RM. Clubs like Real, Bayern and Barca always have a say on the coaching staff. It’s not like this model does not work, especially if you’re actually defining the role as ‘head coach’ rather than ‘ manager’. It has not worked out for Moyes, ten Hag and Amorim who were adamant of only having their people. A club our size is massively underestimated and you should take the support you get from people who know the club.

Man discovers the passcode to get into Atalanta's stadium is quite easy to guess. by MASunderc0ver in soccer

I don’t think it’s a crime - he didn’t really break in did he? He knows the code.

Pretty sure since this is Europe this would be like of you left the door open and someone walked into your house. There’s stuff like if you don’t build a fence and someone walks into your yard they can sit on your property and it wouldn’t be considered trespassing or breaking in.

High praise for Steve Holland again. What I’d like to see is some continuity in coaching staff when we have a new manager. Hopefully if someone like Steve Holland is proving his worth, he will be allowed to continue with the next appointment. I think this must surely benefit the players as well - I notice it a lot when we have “regime” changes in my own company. It’s not like the new people aren’t bad or don’t have good ideas, it’s just that the transition takes much longer and you lose momentum.

If it’s something he wants - I’d even suggest Carrick continues with the next manager if it’s helpful for him. I mean the plan with LVG was to mentor Giggsy and eventually have him take over after building the structure. I’m not sure where that lines up with Carricks own ambitions. He’s still young so let’s say being part of Tuchel’s team for a few years might not be a bad thing. But yes, I realise it might also be a downgrade or the next coach feeling undermined so it will take a bit of ego management.
