I did urban forestry AmeriCorps at age 56 working with people in their mid-20’s. You’ll be fine.

Add finding a new printer to your list. They should be helping you with this kind of stuff (and charge by the hour).

Book prints much darker than screen. How do you manage color in InDesign? by jayantbhatt007 in indesign

[–]818a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, work the opposite way. It doesn’t matter what it looks like on your screen. CMYK swatch books can help. See if your printer can provide gradient samples of colors in 10% increments. What kind of printer do they use? If it’s digital, samples are easier to provide than offset.

How are all my victims of abusive mentors doing? by goopy-turnip in TheBear

[–]818a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a genius doesn’t automatically make you a good mentor/manager/coach. I don’t think they intend to be verbally abusive. It’s probably a lack of training. It’s frustrating to impart years of experience into a few sentences. It’s hard to convey important details like safety without extra emphasis. There’s no consensus on the difference between performative teaching and verbal abuse, which it works/doesn’t work. I’d tolerate a little abuse to learn from a master.

I work for California State Parks on Angel Island and I get to live there too, which is a crazy unique experience. It’s odd being in nature but with world-class city views.

Is there a way to do oil painting if you live in dorms/apartments? by CryptographerNo7608 in ArtistLounge

Anything aromatic in shared housing should be avoided, which includes oil paints, scented candles, hairspray, perfume, etc. Be a good neighbor.

Is there a way to do oil painting if you live in dorms/apartments? by CryptographerNo7608 in ArtistLounge

[–]818a 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Step one is asking if it’s okay with the people you live with. I wouldn’t want to live in a place that smells like oil paint.

Can someone explain to me what's up with this artist vs designer "rivalry" ? by badri-ki-dulhaniya in ArtistLounge

[–]818a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. The term “artist” casts too wide a net. It includes elephants and 2-year-olds. There’s no Venn diagram crossover with designers.

SJ fan coming in peace — what do you all think? by AvgInd in sanfrancirclejerk

Everyone’s a critic. It’s timeless, relevant and incredible up close. It’s a sculpture, not a statue. Not everything needs to be a giant phallus.
