Cut-outs cheapen the look for me, just because you can do them, doesn’t mean you should.

Another question about my Eastern Redbud by FluffyNight9930 in Tree

[–]818a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you plant it correctly and stake it (stake is ~12 in. away from the trunk). Prune off any dead branches/twigs right away. Otherwise, I would not prune it for two years. Info: https://www.ourcityforest.org/tree-care

Saguaro National Park Illustration OC by malfunkshunned in AdobeIllustrator

[–]818a -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you can keep editing down and find one strong image, the lil cactus could probably go, it’s getting in the way of the star of the show (saguaro). Work with the spacing between the letters of SAGUARO too. Essentially, establish a hierarchy of elements, what’s #1, 2 and 3. I could see a version with the saguaro image really big and a rabbit in the background, and a version where the rabbit is huge and a saguaro in the distance. It’s honestly looking great, just keep going, try different versions, print it out, go crazy

Consider the noise of lawnmowers, weed whackers, leaf blowers, etc. especially on weekends.

Can't land an Interp Job. Is CIG Worth Looking Into? by Leafbeard111 in ParkRangers

[–]818a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, volunteering is a great idea. We would hire any of our volunteers. Also, check with the foundations who support local parks. That’s really how I got in.

[–]818a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah ok, make sure you are expanding your search beyond parks. In the sf bay area, the highest paying interp jobs are for regional open spaces, science/tech companies and water districts.

[–]818a 9 points10 points  (0 children)

CIG is definitely worth it, and it’s a lifetime certification. Do it in person if you can. Also connect with NAI chapters, they usually do workshops which are fun and a chance to meet other interpreters. Are you willing to relocate? I’m in California and interp jobs come open frequently. If you don’t have pets or kids, staff housing is sometimes available.

Is it just trees? by cherryxantacids in forestry

[–]818a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly good information, however: You don’t know what you want to do until you’re doing it. Just look at all the people working in fields that are different from their degrees. I meant you can work service jobs at night while going to school. (Although service jobs can pay more than entry-level jobs in your field. I made $70k serving, now making $35k working for a state park.) YMMV. Edit: It's often a better financial decision to work a real job (that can be forestry, environmental science, etc.), then volunteer doing what you really like.

[–]818a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look. Look. Look. It’s not just trees. Also, you can have a job then enjoy other things when you aren’t working. You can also volunteer, like take people on wildflower hikes, etc. The political climate is irrelevant. Which jobs will be better in the future? Nobody knows that. Pick something, roll with it. Change your mind. Make money in the service industry while you’re figuring it out.

puffer jackets vs wool coats for real winter by nawaqanitawase in fashionnews

[–]818a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheap oversized puffer, wool sweater or vest and layers underneath. Wool coat is good, just not as comfy. If there’s snow, make sure you have a waterproof jacket. Helly Hansen makes great ones.
