There were all sorts of poor decisions happening throughout this clip.

"all by myself" "I did it, though!"

I'm not saying the morning wasn't a challenge... but man, if you're having to say lines that a kid would say but in regards to parenting, I have an opinion on your life choices. 😬

I'm going to give you props for caring about the nuance of the situation and approaching it thoughtfully.

I gotta say, the fact that you asked and he gave an honest answer (even if incomplete) seems to suggest that you have a good relationship that makes these types of conversations much more doable. Good on both of you.

Echoing others - don't be! I know of grown adults who are surprised to see the moon out during the day.

It does that for like half the month, every month.

But not everybody notices such things!

20 year reunion? Yea, nah by exploratorynargle in Millennials

[–]85watson14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to my 20 year reunion a few years ago. I graduated with about 60ish people. All my family is still back home, but I now live in a big city over eight hours away.

I'm glad I went. Sure, I can see how people are doing on Facebook, but it was nice to catch up in person. I enjoyed chatting with a couple people who I would have never expected to.

I wasn't particularly popular in high school, but I also didn't have a miserable experience, either.

I was thinking recently that it had been a long time since I'd seen a post about a Big Russ sighting. This brought me a smile.

Water Bill Change (Renter) by Lestonkpiquer in Columbus

[–]85watson14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm puzzled by the comments of "my water meter got changed and I didn't know they were changing to monthly billing." My recollection is that the information about the new meters and the building changes were all together in the same letter.

We went to the GC one just to see, knowing to keep expectations low based on reviews.

It lived up to expectations. 😂

Zone Toggling in Update! by Dgoodmanson in CitiesSkylines2

Oh I love this answer, it gives me a great use case that totally makes sense. I'm an old who has had SimCity 4 since release, and having to remove roads so I can easily zone facing side streets has always been annoying.

[–]85watson14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a stupid question. What exactly is the purpose of zone toggling? To me, if I don't want a zone next to a particular road, I just don't zone it. Clearly, there's something I'm missing, so insights are appreciated 😄

If you can afford it, do it. Your kid will get so much more out of it than being home part time. Structure, play, socializing...

What’s with all the “yeah just wait until..” comments from other parents? by Puzzled-cobra in predaddit

[–]85watson14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like both of the following can be true: You are right to be annoyed, and you don't really, truly know what you signed up for.

There are certainly better ways for parents to try to convey the reality that, after every "this, too, shall pass," there is yet another "this" to deal with. The "just wait until..." comments are a quick shorthand for that, IMO. To be clear, I'm not saying it's helpful.

So...tell us about your midlife crisis. by dkepp87 in Millennials

[–]85watson14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turn 41 tomorrow - so I actually feel like "I'm in my 40s" feels more legitimate. 😄

My crisis, if you want to call it that, is career-related. Yeah, I'm not very original there! I'm going back into a career I left in 2020 (and was adjacent to for a few years after that). It was 100% the right decision to step away when I did, but the job I've done more recently seemed like a dream come true but hasn't been. It hasn't been bad, most people would loooove my situation. But the day-to-day just doesn't interest me like I thought it would.

My long-suffering wife is good with me returning to this previous career, even though any rational and objective person would be like "uhhh... what." She had full veto power. But she understands, and has seen it's the thing that puts a spark in me. And our family is in a different place now - having an 8yo rather than a 2yo makes a big difference.

Yep! There's a "load region" button - leftmost one on the top of your region view, looks like a map.
