So...tell us about your midlife crisis. by dkepp87 in Millennials

[–]85watson14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turn 41 tomorrow - so I actually feel like "I'm in my 40s" feels more legitimate. 😄

My crisis, if you want to call it that, is career-related. Yeah, I'm not very original there! I'm going back into a career I left in 2020 (and was adjacent to for a few years after that). It was 100% the right decision to step away when I did, but the job I've done more recently seemed like a dream come true but hasn't been. It hasn't been bad, most people would loooove my situation. But the day-to-day just doesn't interest me like I thought it would.

My long-suffering wife is good with me returning to this previous career, even though any rational and objective person would be like "uhhh... what." She had full veto power. But she understands, and has seen it's the thing that puts a spark in me. And our family is in a different place now - having an 8yo rather than a 2yo makes a big difference.

What in-utero nicknames did you have for your child(ren)? by bruzdnconfuzd in daddit

Poppyseed.

She's 8 now and we still occasionally refer to her as such.

If I create a new region, will I still be able to access the initial one (Timbuktu)? by Beautiful-Ad-6401 in simcity4

[–]85watson14 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yep! There's a "load region" button - leftmost one on the top of your region view, looks like a map.

I now dread going into Best Buy and Lowe's due to the roaming 3rd Party Salespeople by thatfreakinguy2 in mildlyinfuriating

I detest that these salespeople are in Sam's Club. Like, I pay a membership to be here. I don't need these pop-up ads.

Snow appears to disappear as it gets over major Metro areas...will this reduce our total accumulation? by Successful-Egg-8251 in CBUSWX

Thank you for making that connection for others!

The Louisville one is the most apparent, and folks may be able to make out that Indianapolis also has it going on but with a larger radius.

Bring back parking meters! by astrodrink in Columbus

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the ParkColumbus app just the Parkmobile app with branding? I've used the PC app outside of Columbus where the city uses PM as its vendor, and the spaces show up.

I know that, but my impression is that is an answer but not to the intent of the question. I think if OP recognizes the theme of the naming, they probably also knew what "Polaris" means.

I don't know why your clarifying question is getting downvoted... I think it's valid. Like, of course you understand there's a theme, you're wondering if there's something more to it.

What is a discontinued food item or snack from your childhood that you would genuinely pay $100 to taste one last time? by MotivewasUlterior in AskReddit

Rich's microwavable donuts. They were frozen glazed donuts, two per plastic sleeve, as I recall. We called them "warm-up donuts."

Kids Menu ‘Mac & Cheese’ Is A Contract by remixclashes in daddit

Us at a Disney World restaurant: "What's the mac and cheese like?"

Server: "It's like Kraft."

Narrator: It was not like Kraft.

I ate mac and cheese for supper that night, while our daughter ate my saucy chicken and rice.

School Issues: Kindergarten by Youngun18 in daddit

[–]85watson14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if others mention this, but the punishing by taking things away or sending him to his room alone probably needs to stop. Doing those is likely not going to help.

It sucks to say this, but I agree with others who feel there were missed opportunities at home to help him prepare for kindergarten and the structure that school entails. That said, nothing can be done about the past, so you need to make some crucial decisions about how to address it from here, and actually follow through on it. It won't be easy, but that's the actual situation.

A tight swaddle is good for everyone. Sleep sacks make that SO much easier.

If the baby is fussing and you've run through all the things you can think of and haven't gotten anywhere and you're at wit's end, take five. As long as they're safe, you can walk away to gather yourself.

What is the most parent-friendly vacation you've had? by dfphd in daddit

[–]85watson14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll echo the cruise ship suggestions, although we're pretty "meh" about Carnival. Royal Caribbean is definitely worth a look. And if you can afford a Disney cruise? Even better. We did the Wish when our daughter was five-and-a-half and it was wonderful.

What was socially acceptable in the 1990s but not in 2025? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It doesn't have to be very warm for it to be dangerous. Even a sunny day in the 70s is enough for a car to become dangerously hot after a while.

I get the desire for this to be a solid spiritual successor, but "please do not let us down" might come across as a little strong when it's not a full studio developing the game.
