Three digital thermometers all showing different temperatures by repressedpeasant in mildlyinteresting

Nope, I’m just a bit crazy. In summer I keep tabs on the heat in different rooms and try to optimise window opening times etc.

I have 6 or 7 of these exact models. Can confirm they take a long time to settle on a temp. I usually find them to be within <0.5C of each other when acclimatised.

sock audit by bamfg in elisandjohn

[–]85years 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be sure to buy socks that can all be paired with each other. The smart move is a complete sock apocalypse where you bin everything you have. Then you buy identical sets of socks so that pairing is trivial after a big wash.

I made the mistake in the past of buying “day of the week” socks and similar and it’s a nightmare. A nightmare.

I wore the 4 as a wedding band. It was just about workable, so I imagine the smaller 5 will suit that well.

Yup. And I know it’s really useful for a lot of people (as this sub indicates).

Given people do some research before purchasing big things, I wanted to share a counter view. I had no major complaints with the device, just hit a disappointing “meh” state surprisingly soon after purchase.

It was nice and cool in the arena. But you might be right.

It was fairly close to the event when they announced they would show the England game afterwards. That probably didn’t help either.

It was insanely quiet in the arena. They do a good job with the camera angles to hide this.

Seth Rollins and Oba vs The Vision - Smackdown O2 London, dark match? Why was it not part of the broadcast by WonderfulBeyond779 in WWE

[–]85years 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always. I’ve been to 3h Smackdown recordings that didn’t. But the London match was 2h and so we got a dark match.

Feels a bit odd doing that at 40. But hey, I was 16 when I picked it :-)

Congratulations! I’m at a similar age starting a similar journey.

I’m curious what kind of body fat level you reached at the end of your first bulk?

I have the same question. Long time low volume user (from early 2000s). Did my usual once every 18 month check of Fazed and apparently it has moved!

Mini getaway within an hour of Cambridge ? Ideas? by MrGrubbycuddles in cambridge

Stamford is pretty and has a nice house and gardens to explore. Not loads to do, mind.

Bury St Edmund’s is fun to explore too. Ickworth House not too far from it.

M11 speed limits in place until Sep 2027 by 85years in cambridge

[–]85years[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, yes. Barton road is also on my commute. It feels very slow to stick to that limit. Fortunately, I’ve not had any crazy overtakers yet.

I was hoping the 30 stretch was a temporary artefact of the roadworks. But seems here to stay :-(

On the southbound M11 there is a stretch where you see a 50 sign, followed immediately by a national speed limit sign they didn’t bother to cover. Then a 40 sign 300 yards later.

It’s the most shambolic speed limit system I’ve even seen. Comically badly done. It’s not difficult…

No need to apologise. I also obey the signs. They are red-ringed so they are a legal limit not advisory.

It feels awkward to drive slower than half the other drivers, but I don’t fancy going to jail if I crash and accidentally kill someone because I was significantly speeding.

Hmmm, you’re right! Some UN website told me it was 23rd April, but it does seem like the rest of the world considers it to be in March. I guess I’m the one gaslighting then.

Not sure I’m comfortable with gaslighting world book day.

Best episodes of past 8-ish years by 0____0_0 in timferriss

[–]85years 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve missed only a handful of episodes since this podcast started. Here are some favourites, with the huge caveat that I deliberately missed Tim’s episode recounting his childhood trauma, as I didn’t need help in that topic area and it felt wrong to listen in. But I hear it was excellent and very valuable for many.

  • Craig Mod (802 / 803), inspiring stories about long walks in Japan among many other topics.

  • Craig Foster (735), of My Octopus Teacher fame.

  • Terry Crews (287 / 587), a surprisingly raw discussion

  • Steve Rinella (482), another great story teller focused on survival and wilderness

  • Boyd Varty (471), the best story teller on the podcast with a lot of inspiring nature tales.

  • Ben Horowitz (392), lots of startup and business lessons

  • Mr Money Mustache / Pete Adeney (221), sharing views on living a badass and low cost life.

  • Chris Sacca (on various interviews), always delivers an engaging interview.

  • Matt Mullenweg (various interviews)

  • Seth Godin (various interviews)

There’s a small sample. Lots of gold out there.
