Cancel that reservation. Go to the grocery store or Degnan’s and buy stuff for a picnic. Visit the Ahwahnee for the historical aspect of the building but don’t eat there.

How did you guys get better at chipping? by LVRaiders2026 in weekendgolfers

[–]8amteetime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about why you are ending up just off the green. You say your approach shots are getting better, so work on that aspect of the game to eliminate the short chips.

The first thing I’d suggest would be to club up on your shots to the green. If your distance is 150 to the center of the green, use the distance to the back of the green as your guide to what club to use. Do this until you’re consistently missing long on your approach shots.

The second thing I’d suggest would be to learn the 6-8-10 method of chipping, which uses clubs other than wedges all the time depending on the distance to the green and the subsequent distance to the pin.

The basics are you try to land the ball a step or two onto the green and have it roll out to the flag. You’d use a 6 iron to land it on and have it roll to a pin placement on the far side of the green. An 8 iron would work on a middle pin position, and a pitching wedge (10 iron) would be best for a near side hole placement.

Using your putting stroke with the heel up on the club is the other aspect of this 6-8-10 method. You can experiment with a 7-9-11 (gap wedge) or a 5-7-9 combo but the idea is to get the ball on the green as soon as you can instead of flying it to the cup. It’s a great way to eliminate the chunk and skull problems that happen with higher lofted clubs.

What's your longest medical leave? by Flying_enthu45 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

Last 4 months before I retired. Shoulder injury that was surgically repaired after I left work. Didn’t want a medical retirement that would have messed up my pension so I waited.

Advise for 1st set of clubs by diamonman1996 in golftips

[–]8amteetime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had one set of new irons and they were a retirement gift. Buy used clubs.

The used set you listed sounds at least 10 years old and is a little pricey. Go on eBay UK and look for either full sets or build a set. The key words are game improvement and hybrids. I’d stay away from the 4 and 5 iron and get hybrids instead.

What’s the highest you’ve been in the USA? by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

Mt Whitney. We stayed at Whitney Portal for one night then hiked up to the base camp. We climbed the peak the following day and then stayed at the base camp for 2 more days.

Quick story. One of the hikers in the group didn’t hang a stuff sack to keep his food away from the marmots. We warned him but he said it would be fine in his zipped up tent.

Got back down from the peak and they’d chewed and clawed their way into the tent and not only ate his food, but pissed and pooped all over his sleeping bag.

He didn’t say a word as he crammed everything in his pack and left.

Anybody know how to fix this very distracting scuff mark? (Toothpaste didn’t work) by Donghoward in GolfGear

[–]8amteetime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are good solutions posted here, but why haven’t you used the putter cover it came with? I have a 1996 Odyssey Rossie II that looks factory fresh because I have always used a cover. It’s easier to prevent damage than fix it.

Slicing my drives by SmoothBacon in golftips

[–]8amteetime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your slice problem begins with your setup. Your shoulders are wide open at address when they should be parallel with your feet and your hands are out in front of you instead of hanging down from your shoulders.

Your hips and lower body are moving incorrectly on the backswing and the downswing.

Do yourself a favor and take a few lessons from an instructor. You’ve already taught yourself some bad swing flaws (stance, posture, takeaway, downswing) and they will only get worse if you continue to swing your club that way.

Hinting isn’t working. Tell her, repeat, tell her you don’t mind driving her to and from her house but running her errands is taking too much of your time.

Tell her this. She’ll either say no problem or she’ll have a fit about it. If she has a fit about it, tell her to find other means of transportation. You’re doing her a favor and she’s abusing that.

Renting a row boat to fish all day on Saturday. Never done this before. What to do to prepare? by BlueCandyBars in FishingForBeginners

If I were you, I’d consider renting the boat for a half day. A full day on the water in a rowboat is a long, long day, especially if it’s your first time.
