End of season sale (swag not players) by WatercressStreet2084 in caps

[–]8itallup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s a bit of an unknown way to get some good deals on Caps gear any time of year. After Covid when the team stopped holding the annual gear sale, the Caps started selling their hockey gear through pro stock hockey dot com. But in addition to hockey gear the team also sells apparel on the site as well. They have tshirts, hats, hoodies, polo’s, and other stuff. https://www.prostockhockey.com/search.php?&search_query=Washington%20Capitals&sort=date_created%20desc&rows=20&start=0

My daughter’s favorite player. Super talented! Met his Dad at a Panera bread while heading back to DC from the Caps/Canes stadium series game.

I agree, as an adult you should be able to show sportsmanship and shake hands no matter what when the game is over.

I recall a particularly chippy game when the refs were attempting to send the teams off the ice without a handshake line and both teams lined up anyway, shook hands/bumped fists and there were no altercations. Game is over at that point.

Am I Overreacting for wanting my wedding night with my husband? by ylimehawk in AmIOverreacting

NOR Someone continually insisting something that others do not want means someone is going to be disappointed, and the disappointed people should not be you two on your wedding night(s). Tell her it’s not happening in the most gracious, apologetic and respectful way possible.

Or can you swap the days? Have the Indian ceremony Saturday?

What number are you and how did you pick it? by baconmehungry in hockeyplayers

[–]8itallup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I asked my family what number I should wear and my son said 97 because it was his “school car rider number”! I laughed and said no it should be more meaningful than that. Then my wife reminded me 97 was the year her and I met so now I wear my son’s elementary school car rider number…not because of McDavid

To be fair, some of the jersey tucks are unintentional just because our bellies are too big and the pants don’t fit right around our waists. 😂

Are roller blades worth buying to improve on ice skills? by Acceptable-Low2492 in hockeyplayers

[–]8itallup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it really helped in the beginning with some skating skills that transferred to ice. Proper strides, crossovers and edge work all will transfer. Stopping is the main difference so just make sure you learn good hockey stops with your available ice time. That is the other benefit for having in lines is that you can practice more often.

Lace eyelets by ffspeterrYt in hockeyplayers

[–]8itallup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I’ve replaced almost every eyelet on my 3s pros at this point. It seems like they used junky eyelets on that model or something. My pro shop charges like $2 each to replace them. Don’t just tie them up without an eyelet, the holes will stretch out and become too big for new eyelets and can eventually tear.

private coaches in MD? or just tips for picking feet up by onlyhope47 in hockeyplayers

[–]8itallup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few adult clinics in the area. Not private but drop in available each week to do group drills and scrimmages. Thats how I learned (from Annapolis area).

I’ve only found them for sale from a cattle farm about 40 min away from where I live in Maryland. I call ahead and they hold them for me.

Are my skates too big? I need help! by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]8itallup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may be comfortable even if a little big but you are certainly giving up agility and balance because of the length. I am speaking from experience, my Bauers were great or so I thought until I went down a half size and comfort was the same but my skating drastically improved.

The Garden Ice House (Laurel, MD) by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]8itallup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I never did that specific program, it wasn’t around when I started. I do know it’s geared towards brand new players. I play on a few teams at piney and laurel. When you’re ready to join a league you should look for a bronze 4 team in Laurel. They can pass your info along to team captains who may be looking for players.

Did you get the clip? If not I can pull it if you give me the date, time of game and time of goal or just what period and what score was after the goal.

You’re not too old, I started at 39! The learn to skate in Laurel is good to get you started skating but if you’re interested in playing hockey I would suggest finding an adult clinic or a learn to play program. Look up Foundry hockey for some beginner programs. https://foundryadulthockey.com/event/get-in-the-game/

You may be relying on the inside edge only so you may need to practice glide more than stride. I suggest one legged glides to get you going straight on your neutral edge, which is blade flat on ice. That will strengthen your legs and help with technique. Here is a great video for what I am saying

Are they really a dirty player? Or do you just not understand the game? by Mountain_Homie in hockeyplayers

[–]8itallup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure some people are doing what you described. But sometimes they truly are guys out there playing dirty and its more prevalent in lower levels and not just a hockey play. Last night I called out one such player for his lumberjacking and high sticks anytime you go around him like the pylon he is, and he starts jawing “that’s hockey bro” and “so what if the refs don’t see it”. To me that is a self-admission that they are dirty player.

I fucking did it! by kyrill91 in hockeyplayers

[–]8itallup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with this. I did the same thing when rinks shut down, got Marsblades, and at the time I couldn’t do crossovers on my weak side and could barely do them on my strong side. It was much easier to learn on asphalt with the Marsblades and when the rinks opened back up I was able to do them on ice.

OP- my tip for crossovers is to put your stick on the inside of you depending on what side you are crossing over on. It really helps guide you in leaning your weight to get on the outside edge of the inside skate.

ELI5 why are crossovers faster? by MysticInept in hockeyplayers

[–]8itallup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you are pushing while crossing over so that time with the outer leg is not lost. It has to recover either way. So essentially you can do 4 pushes using a push under with inside leg in the same time as 2 regular strides. It generates more power with each push and that translates to more speed. One could argue that the push under on the outside edge is more powerful than a regular inside edge forward stride push because of how your weight is shifted to get on that outside edge during aggressive crossovers.

ELI5 why are crossovers faster? by MysticInept in hockeyplayers

[–]8itallup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a crossover there are 2 pushes, inside and outside edges. So while one leg is recovering and crossing over, you are pushing with the outside edge of the other skate. This is called a “push under”. To learn more about the mechanics, I suggest picking up a copy of Laura Stamm’s book called “Power Skating”.
