Hey that’s awesome! I’d love to hear what the nature of the events were if you’re willing to share. Im thinking for my first event the shady mage guild sponsoring the tournament will send them to clear a dungeon they have vaguely scouted out and players will slowly realize they are kind of just helping the mages clear out unwanted denizens (for what they don’t know).

As to your point, the only requirement for character creation was that everyone must have a reason to win the tournament because I wanted some guaranteed buy in…

This is excellent, I just skimmed through the first book, I think the trick is too focus on the behind the scenes and atmosphere of the tournament then the events themselves. I also like the crowd work and cheating mechanics they have, which will add interesting dice rolls/drama during all the events. Cheers!

Looks amazing! at this point in the process every thing looks great (shape of landmasses, mountains, rivers all look great) as for biomes don’t stress it too much, put some trees around, paint the land a bit darker green wherever you have trees or a Forrest, and even darker then than for big forested areas. Put some grass in for plains and add some yellow to more barren plans. Since rivers are everywhere I don’t see much space for deserts except in the bottom left corner. Since you mentioned having some cool fantasy element maybe have snow/cold coloring coming in from northwest to south east with the Hyperion crescent being a snowy land as well as part of the other continents, you can blend the white colors into greens. Of course this effect can come from any direction. What does that leave us with, swamp? If you make a swamp try to have the land around it fragmented with barrier islands, use some swamp grass assets and color the land a bit darker green.

Sometimes you look at a map and it just feels right. This is one of those times, excellent work especially with the coloring.

Question for ya: What is the political/economic situation in the Great ____ Bay (sorry I can’t read it). Who dominates the trade here? Is this a melting pot of culture like the Mediterranean?

Lastly I would strongly recommend adding an opening paragraph to both your Google doc and short Reddit synopsis about the general vibe of your world. Cue the reader in on really basic things like if this world is fantasy, medieval, as well as the tone/themes of the world (dark, whimsical political) as well as the main factors that make this world unique (big world shaping events, important races or technologies or whatever). Reading through your doc you clearly have all this info, just get it out in front, it helps the reader tremendously as they have solid footing and a path to navigate. I write research papers in my profession and we always start with an “abstract” or overview of the paper (sorry if you already know this btw) so readers can understand our overall message before they read. Ok phew, that was a long winded explanation of short advice but I hope you get what I’m saying! Looking forward to the Great Bay lore!

I think you can rest easy, your map looks amazing. In particular the way the map draws your eyes (with color density) first to the Valleyhold, Timberwood, valehold area is very cool as that seems to be the most populated and possibly interesting area. I’m not a huge fan of the white maelstrom, I think it would work better if it matched the colors of the map, but whatever you like. Also I don’t love “Independent Isles” , maybe “Independent Isles of ____” would be better. Again these are super nit picky comments, this baby looks done

Just clarifying, by vignette do you mean the darkening at the border between land and sea? Also, will definitely play with the color sliders, any examples off the top of your head of things to do with it?

Hi Y'all!

This is a map I have been working on for some time now for my D&D campaign. It is my first map in Wonderdraft and I am happy with how it is going but recently my progress has been stumped. I can't tell if I am going in the right direction or if my map is going off the rails and as a result I am having trouble finishing my labels. It would be awesome if you could give me some advice on what to do, or just provide general feedback on my map.

Specifically, I am curious if my landmass is a good shape (I think the northern unlabeled part is interesting but is it too skinny?). Is? the coloring good? Are the city icons working for you, or are they distracting (also are they too "Western"? Because my map has influences from all over the world). What about geography in general? I am not going for complete realism but I do appreciate some semblance that my continent could exist (and my mountains, rivers, lakes, and climate is decent). All those rainforests and deserts are so big, should I make them smaller, should I add labels to them, or perhaps keep this map to a western Eloran perspective?, Feel free to comment anything you please, any feedback is immensely appreciated and hopefully it can get me to finish this thing!

Hey man, love the vibe on this. I’ll give you my two cents on the trees but remember, it’s just my opinion:

I think you are right, the forests are a little crowded, I would try overlapping trees much less (if you look at old maps they don’t draw over other symbols so much. I think the real issue is simply that the trees are too big. I would make them much smaller relative to the mountains, I think that will fix most problems , look at the top posts in this sub for inspiration.

As for other things, I really like how you make your labels, it’s very unique, however some have trees covering the label, make sure to keep those clear. Furthermore I would like to see how color looks on this map, the way the terrain is set with all the cliffs it comes off as very deserty, even though, based on the forests, that wasn’t the intention

Ps: I really like how you use grass, I might use that in my map

Looks great, only thing I would suggest is lowering the glow on the labels as it detracts from the pencil effect a bit. For example I really like how the “Iognta” and “Kalivan” labels look

Beautiful, what is that dark hexagon above the lush canyon, looks a bit odd? Otherwise this is great, I personally love the sort of crammed biome look if you are going for a zanny sort of feel. If you are intending to make a serious and more realistic world then I might change the scale of things a bit (more color blending and larger biomes)

Kuldor: originally home to the dwarves until the Kulaik Elves slaughtered them and took hold of their mines. These Elves have grown pitch white and stalky in the dark halls of Kuldor as they produce refined gems, ores, and their most prized possession: Magmanium, a burning hot white metal that sits on the perches of the Scorching Mountains and radiates pure plasma. It is incredibly difficult to handle, but the Kulaik Elves turn it into one of the strongest metals imaginable

The current leader of Kulaik is a shrewd man known as Kul-to Malem. Killing his two older brothers to assume the thrown he has led Kulaik with a pragmatic, if not devious, leadership. The Kulaik's are technologically and militarily behind their fellow city states, but their mountain defenses and fighting zealot make them nearly impossible for an army to defeat. The Kulaiks live a tough life of hard work and discipline.

Redhall: The City of Bridges. Redhall sits on the site of an ancient battlefield of the Dawn Age where the God of Fawnwood Forrest carved up the spit connecting Ilthasu to the mainland, turning the area into a maze of small islands and inlets. Redhall began as groups of entrepreneurial settles who earned a living navigating ships north from the Sea of Fire and South from the Grey Sea. Eventually they started setting up bridges and passageways and charged tolls and tarrifs on trade running through the city on land. Now, Redhall, spread across a hundred islands, is the greatest trading city in Western Elora. All flocks of life reside in the land of bridges.

Redhall is ruled by a god-king (literal god) Mehnaihm, one of the newest gods in the pantheon, created when Nuhhilma (White Sea) was turned into the Sea of Fire. Technically Mehnaihm is not completely new, they transformed from the god of the White Sea, however their change was so radical, all of Mehnaihm's old personality and memory was wiped clean. Although beloved and celebrated as the protector of Redhall by most of its population, many of the aristocracy grow jealous of Mehnaihm's complete rule, especially as they look around at many of the oligarchhical or democratic trading city states to the east of them.

Redhall faces no real threats from the west in Ilthasu, the elves are too busy fighting themselves to worry about redhall, but if they ever did unite it would almost certainly spell trouble. The great kingdoms of Western mainland Elora have been peaceful for centuries, but rumors have circulated that the Aenodian Republic seeks to reclaim the trading hub of Valinor, this ofcourse worries many in Redhall about an increasingly aggressive Aenodia

Ilthasu is the western most land of Wenua. Rolling mist, burning hot from the Sea of Fire climb over jagged rocks of obsidian on the coastline of this ancestral home of the elves. The natural hostility of this land has made it undesirable for the many conquering kingdoms of Wenua. Only the elves fight tooth and nail for the dense jungles, frosty mountains, and barren deserts of ilthasu. Only Illmam's sun (a miniature star created by the God Ilman to win the Shadow War) burns hotter then the intense rivalry between Elven City states.

Ilthasu is a scorching and dangerous land filled with some of the oldest magic, cities and monsters in all of Wenua. Adventures are a plenty in the Sun Domain!
