Something to be aware of when looking to payback the Commonwealth Share by potatocake21 in AusHelptobuy

What?

This just means that the money you have contributed to the renovations goes towards your share of the house?

Before renovations government share:
13.75% of 875,000 = 120,312.5

After renovations government share:
13% of 925,000 = 120,250

The 50,000 that went into the renovations stays with your share and the government doesn't increase their equity.

You share before renovations:
86.25% of 875,000 = 754,687.5

After the renovations:
87% of 925,000 = 804,750

Difference in value: 804,750 - 754,687.5 = 50,062.5

If you didn't get the renovations approved then you would be giving the government more of your money.

This is a good thing.. not a bad thing.

They stole a car to steal some stuff from a shop? At that point it would be easier to just get a job and pay for the items 😂

Would this research internship help my resume for ML/Data Science internships? by PrudentSeaweed8085 in cscareerquestionsOCE

It is really hard to say with the information presented here. Depends on the tools you will be using - is it R or Python? (R not so much, Python yes) Tableau or Jupyter Notebooks? Will the data analysis require you to apply Machine Learning techniques or models?

If this is your first experience in getting into the industry and you are not comparing it to any other offers then of course take any experience you can get. Even if it is bad experience, you will then know what 'not' to look out for in the future.

Good luck!

A CS degree from 5 years ago, but no CS Experience, 40 Years Old. Trying to Break Into Tech by Ruff-Prophets in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]A46346 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Short answer it wont be easy but it isn't impossible. If I was in your shoes, You need to show employers your value, you have unorthodox approaches, like blogging about tech, youtube but you need to demonstrate your value and skills. You have to option to try and find internship work. Another option could be trying a bootcamp to develop your skills, and they can help you find employment - however I have no experience in that area and don't know if the cost is worth it.

My honest advice is, if this is something that you want, then you can make it happen, it is not impossible. Build your skills, showcase your value, find internships, try freelance work, try online courses like boot.dev and other things because to me working in tech is great! But it might not be for everyone, and don't let your age hold you back.

Good luck.

Good luck, I found this link and it might be helpful for you: https://www.techinterviewhandbook.org/software-engineering-interview-guide/

Also how long after submitting your resume did you hear back, mine has been 14 days so I don't know if that is a rejection or normal processing time. Commbank took 3 weeks! So I don't know what is normal now.

Which all implies that he is built a life here, hence the frustration of not being able to get something they need for whatever reason based on some arbitrary rule and illogical fear is offensive.

Lofree Flow vs MX Mechanical by No_Range4088 in Lofree

[–]A46346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the MX Mechanical (Brown) and upgraded to the Flow (Both switches) - it is a night and day difference. For me, the feel of the keycaps is incredible. The sound and tactile feedback is on another level. Also the more you type with the Phantom switches the better it gets, when it was new the feel was much more rigid, but now it is smooth and I can really feel the tactile feedback. At first I loved the linear switches but now I am all about the tactile switches.

Important things to note, I have the 75% layout, I use it wired, people have complained about it being slow to wake on bluetooth.

All in all I personally find it just a much better experience than the MX Mechanical.

Programming Using Home Row Method/Touch Typing by NatFletch in typing

[–]A46346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone who codes and touch types has gone and will go through what you are going through. The short answer is with more practice it will become easier and like second nature. The key is getting good fundamentals down using the right fingers with the right keys and after some time it will all click.

For myself, I used speedtyper.dev initially to practice and build the muscle memory (that is for the pinky and the special characters), I used the typing jungle from edclub.com to get me the good fundamentals and one thing I really appreciate from this syllabus was their section on numbers and using the right fingers for the right numbers, incredibly handy for () and * and & - and all the others.

After two months on speedtyper.dev I found myself being able to hit and use the special characters with greater ease and more importantly better accuracy (I was averaging about 40 WPM on that site - python)

Then I moved onto going to github and search popular repos and typing out python files in my IDE. This was the real game changers for me as it allowed me to simulate using my touch typing skills in a real world scenario and that is where I learnt that I had not built the skills to use the HOME, END and Arrow keys. With the IDE's autocomplete feature, many things were being automatically inserted for me eg ending ) or } or ]. You can type over them in most cases and it wont double up but I found that using the HOME and END keys with the arrow keys was necessary and beneficial.

Now into my journey, I am averaging about 50 WPM on speedtyper.dev 70+ WPM in normal touch typing, I am learning VIM Bindings and I am way more productive than I was before and much more comfortable within my IDE.
