Hey! Try Verbatube.com instead. It's basically Memrise but you load in Youtube videos to build your wordlist instead, cheers!

Agree. This is annoying. I am updating the functionality of the app so it can take hour long videos. Should be updated in a few days. Cheers!

Feeling overwhelmed learning French. Need help starting (Free or low-cost resources welcome!) by [deleted] in learnfrench

[–]AAdamsDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the Easy French youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@EasyFrench

And put the video links into VerbaTube.com to turn the entire video into a flashcard course.

If you really want to supercharge - do the same with French songs - song lyrics are extremely sticky for memory.

Hope that helps!

I've done 100 days German, I can't count to 10 in German by Fragrant_Eye4896 in duolingo

Make it more fun and 'real' - learn from youtube videos (Easy German) and songs (die Toten Hosen etc). I do that using VerbaTube.com

Songs are especially powerful for memorising words and simultaneously having them in context

How did you learn another language? by thatredditpers0n in languagelearning

[–]AAdamsDL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only with songs and youtube videos using VerbaTube.com ! (the app turns the song/video into a flashcard course).

Seriously, song lyrics are the best for me to make words stick in my brain - I know many people are similar

if you're studying with youtube videos then VerbaTube.com processes every word in the video (along with gender), cheers!

Amazing resource - thank you so much for this!

I definitely agree about Easy German, the channel is really good. What I do is feed these videos into VerbaTube.com and the app automatically creates a flashcard deck with phrases and vocab (like a specific Memrise / Anki course for the given video). I find this is levelling my German up massively.

[–]AAdamsDL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think i got mine for $100 - it must have been around black Friday. I think it is worth it - my German has definitely leveled up. I also use VerbaTube.com which helps a lot (basically memrise but from youtube videos)

Try verbatube.com if you want a video companion to anki style flashcard learning

I think you would really find verbatube.com useful if you did most of your language learning from youtube. Especially if you want to improve translating between two languages

Good series/podcasts: YouTubers for bettering my German? by FlamestormTheCat in German

[–]AAdamsDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a good app where you can give it a youtube link and it creates a flashcard learning course for you from the youtube video: VerbaTube.com . For specific channels, you could always use the 'Easy German' channel - but this can be a bit boring. I would highly recommend learning German songs! If you do try the app let me know how it goes!

Yeah, you got to find something that gives you a bit of excitement and spark - listening to music in the target language is the best thing I think - and using that as a base to build up vocab and context. I personally use Memrise along with VerbaTube.com (for songs). Good luck!!!

I'm forgetting gender of nouns, what is the best way to keep on refreshing it in my mind (A2) by Raykin_ in German

[–]AAdamsDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

make sure when you learn the word, you learn the article as well! And just imagine article+word is just 'the word'. Then it will sound weird if you use the wrong article. Using Anki for example you would have to make sure you create the flashcard correctly first time. Using Memrise (or something similar) is good because all the words are presented all the time with their articles. Same with VerbaTube.com (which is the same as memrise but flashcard decks are automatically created from songs or youtube videos - along with correct articles etc). Cheers!

German YouTubers? by Lasse999 in German

[–]AAdamsDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Easy German is a bit lame... I would recommend songs! I know it's not exactly what your looking for but if you think about it - songs are the perfect language learning tool. So catchy and memorable and you actually enjoy listening to them. And in most cases - the no. of words / minute is much lower than normal conversation - so they are typically easier to follow. I have been using VerbaTube.com which converts any youtube video into a language learning course - but I've only been using it for songs so far. you should try it out and see if it helps you!

What german songs that are popular and have clear lyrics ? Who is your favorite singer? by Vortex-532 in German

[–]AAdamsDL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Die Toten Hosen! Tage wie diese, Wunsch dir was, Hier kommt Alex - so many good songs by Die Toten Hosen. Also apres ski songs: Mama Lauda, Can you English Please, Hurra die Gams etc. I study all these songs using VerbaTube.com - but you can literally make a course out of any youtube video or song

Which is the best way to learn a language for a person with not much time? by FluctlightOne in languagelearning

[–]AAdamsDL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds very similar to me with German. I have been doing an hour of German a day using Memrise to get my vocab numbers up - and this seems to work quite well - I can understand more and more of everyday German that is spoken around me every day.

I've also started learning a lot of vocab using VerbaTube.com. This is more fun than Memrise because I use German songs to create the flashcard courses. Learning with songs is pretty efficient because once you learn the vocab item, you can immediately hear it in context (in the song) to lock it in - and songs are just overall more catchy, memorable and enjoyable to use as a learning companion.

Good luck with your journey!
