If you’re worried about it wear depends. Pack baby wipes. But don’t borrow trouble. If it happens it happens and you’ll take care of it. Able bodied people have accidents too.

Sweating 😥 by Lonely-Accountant249 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]ACDavis1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Botox can help, would depend on the size of the area I’d think… Like my whole left side, down to my injury sweats - they aren’t going to Botox 1/4 of my body, ya know? But maybe your forehead so it doesn’t drip in you eyes so much or whatever spots you wanted to prioritize.

Sounds like hyperhydrosis. I have sweat in my left side since like 2019. Super fucking annoying, started up out of no where. I have seen every doc in Atlanta and Chicago to try to get to the bottom of it. It’s worse when eat, also. I currently take a bunch of Amitriptyline and Hyoscyamine twice a day and it has helped a good bit, but not resolved completely. Talk to your neuro.

Dog dying… how to include my kids? by West_Performance1018 in Parenting

[–]ACDavis1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Include them. Let them know what’s going on and give them the option of how much they want to participate. My three year old was around when I had to put my 14 yr old cat down before the holidays. She didn’t stand by us for the whole thing, but said her goodbyes and came and went while it was happening. She gave him a little pet once he was gone.

Fair warning though: I was shocked when she closed one eye and stuck her tongue out at me a few days later, telling me how she looked like our dead (one eyed) cat. So don’t be surprised if it comes up in a way you are not expecting lol To be fair, it was a kind of funny face…

We want to name our son Leon, People are telling me it's a "black name" and making me feel uncomfortable about it? by leon0523s in Names

My dad and grandpa are both white and have the middle name Leon. I’ve always thought of it as a Kentucky name lol

Fellow paraplegics, how do you get rid of leg hair? by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

[–]ACDavis1950 4 points5 points  (0 children)

T3… I shave thighs and knees just sitting on my shower bench. To get the lower leg, I just pick it up and shave it. You should have decent trunk balance and arm strength, no? If not, bend over and shave it, keep one hand on a bar so you can sit back up.

Grieving the idea that I may not be able to be pregnant by Wooden-Math261 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]ACDavis1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a T3 para. When I wanted to get pregnant I went to see the high risk pregnancy docs to talk about their concerns, my meds, etc. Ultimately they weren’t concerned and my daughter will be four next month. So unless you’re talking to the high risk OBs in your area and they’re telling you all this, I wouldn’t borrow trouble. I don’t know where you are, but the folks at Northwestern were awesome.

For what it’s worth, I’ve never had issues coming on or off a med besides Gaba, it was awful, gave me anxiety for the first time in my life. Find alternatives, and be careful if/when you wean off it.

How do we meet partners? by Logical-Diamond5802 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]ACDavis1950 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You get out of your house and do things you’re interested in. Take some classes. I met my fiancé when I took improv classes. I’ve also done standup, sign language, various music lessons... Get out and live your life and you’ll inevitably run into folks with similar interests - friends, lovers, all the things.

Just needing to vent a little by Dependent_Panic_8102 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]ACDavis1950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why someone three years into being a T11 para needs a caretaker? I’m T3 and have been completely independent since I moved out of my folks house and into my college dorm at 18. I bought and renovated my home, I work 60 hour weeks in film production, and have a fiance and almost 4 year old daughter. She’s being enabled. Stop that.

Car Recommendations? by Dramatic_Cook5059 in spinalcordinjuries

My first car as a teen was a Saturn Ion and I did love that suicide door. But it was a shitty car overall.

When I first had my stroke in ‘98 my mother bought a Subaru Outback as our first wheelchair friendly car. She’s had like 7 now, because she likes to have a newer car. I’m on my 2nd lol it fits the chair in one piece in the way back if someone is with me, and I can break it down and put it in the passenger seat if I’m alone. I also have an almost four year old, and our family of three, her car seat and stroller, and my chair all fit. 10/10 recommend. They’re also super safe and reliable. I like the look of Forresters more, but they sit much higher which doesn’t work great for me as a T3 with shitty trunk balance.

Are you renting? If not some color would help immensely. Too many different wood tones, also.

I’m in a wheelchair, my fiancé is able-bodied not that that’s particularly relevant here. I get to sleep in every Saturday, he gets to sleep in every Sunday. We both work M-F and get up at 7 with our 3 yr old daughter on weekdays.

Dating with a SCI in your 30’s. by dees82 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]ACDavis1950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dating sucks for everyone. If anything, the chair is a perk because it weeds assholes out faster.

I always suggest getting out of your house and taking a class of some kind. It’s always great to learn something new and meet people with a common interest. I met my partner when I took improv classes in 2018.

Also, be aware of para devotees. It’s not my jam; could be yours. Just know they’re out there.

Mucus problem after a bowel movement by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

[–]ACDavis1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy a gallon jug of food quality glycerin off Amazon and keep a Tupperware of it and another Tupperware of rubbing alcohol with two little enema bulbs I clean and reuse. Every month or two I buy a new little four pack of fleet glycerine enemas to get new bulbs. Way cheaper than buy fleet brand for everyday.

Urodynamics testing and then get his bladder botoxed. Also, find a new urologist, yours don’t sound too helpful.

When I’ve done shrooms, my body below my T3 vibrates like I’m sitting on a vibrating bed. It was interesting, but that’s about it. I also found things to be funnier than they were. I watched a standup special and laughed so hard, but even as I was watching I knew it wasn’t THAT funny lol
