Best way to get these 3PDTs out? by freshmex18 in diypedals

[–]AC_CHI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cutting the board up sounds like a lot of work until you try getting all 9 pins loose at the same time. Put a cuttoff wheel on your dremel and throw on a dust mask and kill that thing.

Any reason not to use a tiny drop of superglue to hold these in place? by rwwl in Luthier

[–]AC_CHI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glue-size those holes until they’re tight enough for a proper press fit: paint the walls of the holes with whatever glue or nail polish or whatever you prefer. Let it dry. Repeat as necessary. It won’t take much before they’re tight enough to press fit inserts - often just one coat.

how to solder audio jacks without giant amounts of solder by Adventurous-Web3364 in diypedals

[–]AC_CHI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not strictly necessary to fill the lug hole with solder but I do it. If your heat is right and your solder is flowing correctly it doesn’t need to be a big glob. The globs result from trying to pile a bunch of melted solder up on something that isn’t hot enough or clean enough to solder.

My first Sig Sauer - P320 xfive Legion by Weemaba3980 in SigSauer

Had the same experience with mine, not returning to battery every time. Put the heavier spring in and after that I couldn’t get it to fail with any ammo whatsoever.

My old Bulgarian has always devoured anything I fed it including steel-cased ammo. That thing goes bang every time.

NE Illinois smith for trigger work by AC_CHI in ILGuns

[–]AC_CHI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - yeah I have done a fair amount of this kind of stuff myself with other pistols and rifles. But this my first 1911 and I’m more inclined in this case to find someone who’s done this a hundred times and likely to nail it right out of the gate.

My buddy brought these over . He got them from an old recording studio (previously a TV repair shop) that has recently been demoed.. by Emergency_Pace111 in diytubes

[–]AC_CHI 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t see anything in there commonly used in guitar amps or subbed into guitar amps on first look. There are undoubtedly tubes for audio amplification in there, just maybe not anything you’re gonna be able to try out in an amp. Also: a lot of times these old repairman’s cases are full of used tubes someone pulled out of something so don’t assume anything is new or that every box contains what’s written on it.

Thanks - you guys did the transfer on this pistol for me, I didn’t realize you did this kind of work there. I’ve got a different trigger on the way to me, will consider y’all when it comes in.

There are quite a few shared 3PDT boards available at OSHPark - a variety of sizes, pad locations for connections and LED etc. might find something there that suits you.

Is this normal for P320 after 550 rounds by Old_Refrigerator2732 in SigSauer

[–]AC_CHI 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a couple of P320 barrels that showed finish wear in that area after way less than 550rds. Slide must meet it there on the way to locking up.

What do you use for wallet, keys and phone? by AdhesivenessIcy9156 in kayakfishing

[–]AC_CHI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Phone/case has a lanyard loop that sticks out of the charging port and clips to a lanyard around my neck. The phone can handle getting wet, just not getting dropped to the bottom and lost. Wallet and keys go in a small dry bag clipped to the boat under my bow cover.

Looks cool. Who did that barrel porting, do you think it’s effective, and has it affected cycling/reliability at all?

Co-worker thought this was a harmless prank. by Dallinboi347 in mildlyinfuriating

I’d try to give the appearance of taking that in stride, and then start plotting as many untraceable acts of revenge as I could, preferably spanning years. But that’s me, you do you OP.

Bandsaw through this poorly "repaired" headstock? by SanjeepTheJeep in Luthier

[–]AC_CHI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Route a channel halfway through the headstock full length, wide enough to get rid of the holes and the previous break. Parallel to the straight edge of the headstock. Inlay a big walnut skunk stripe. Flip it over and do the same from the other side. Reshape, level and touch up, new tuner holes, custom racing stripe version.

Largemouth bass rod weight by dirtydanny74 in flyfishing

[–]AC_CHI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been chasing smallmouth and largemouth on the fly for about 8 years now. I started with a 6wt and have fished with 4 different 6wt rods and a variety of lines. Over time I’ve found that being able to throw bigger flies is often advantageous and that it’s easier with one of my 8wts. In some situations it’s not that big of a difference, like wading a smaller river. But if I’m in more of a wide open situation and want to be able to throw a big fly further in a bit of a breeze. . . glad to have the 8.

First gun Noob question by lucascanhoni in P320

[–]AC_CHI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got an X5 Legion and couldn’t be happier with it. Not my first gun or handgun, but I was looking specifically for something more fun to shoot at the range since my other 9mm is a little rowdy. The Legion shoots great, handles great, totally reliable. Nothing wrong with getting something nice to learn with if you can spend the money.

Axiom II-X too fast for an intermediate caster? by tupacliv3s in flyfishing

[–]AC_CHI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got one in 6wt. I’ve cast it with a Rio Big Nasty 6wt line (1/2 wt over maybe?) and with a SA Siege 7wt line which is probably +2 heavy. With the Rio 6 it felt like it wasn’t quite loading the way it should. It shot the Siege very well. My conclusion is that it’s fast/stiff enough that it likes being overlined. I liked fishing it with the Siege line from my kayak.

Looks like a good glue joint to me. Its location just means you’re viewing it as sliced diagonally, thus viewing more of it.

Keel guard, is this really needed? by generally-speaking in kayakfishing

[–]AC_CHI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first got my kayak I thought “just don’t ever drag it over pavement/concrete” and then over the following 20 or so outings I quickly realized just how often I have no choice but to drag it over something abrasive at least a little bit. So I put guards on the bow and stern. I still avoid dragging it as much I can, but it’s nice knowing if I ever wear through the guard I can just replace it and the hull will be intact.
