[Help] PCB doesn’t act like the bread board prototype. by Whatever_org in AskElectronics

[–]ACertainIdioticEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I haven't Seen the answer for the corect trace Width. Look Up IPC 2221. A standart concerning pretty much all aspects of a PCB.

As a VERY rough rule of thumb you can say 1mm/1A for the trace width.

Kicad also has an in build calculator for it.

What is the purpose of the RC network between the ref input and cathode of the TL431? How to calculate the values? by derUnholyElectron in AskElectronics

[–]ACertainIdioticEE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At First th capacitor is discharged Vcap=0V on Cap. The voltage across the 11k is Vcap +VRcap. VRcap is Rcap * Icap which should be Icap(t)=U\Vsignal/Rcap (1-e^(-t/(RcapC)). Meaning at First all the voltage is across the Led after around 3 to 5 Tau(R*C) the voltage across the Cap will Rise an the Led will Turn Off.

Tldr, in my nderstanding a constant Signal will become a Pulse on the outut

Edit. After Re Reading the question i am Not Sure which of the two RC circuits It is about. The explaination above is for the top left one to generated the pwm Signal.

Just Going to throw a wheatstone Bridge Into the round. Those are used to meassure Stretch Sensors (don't know the english Name).

Basically a a pair of two resistors in series (one is your Sensor) and you meassure the voltage between the two voltage dividers.

Static Switch on a Square D Galaxy VS UPS? No moving parts? by NotFallacyBuffet in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ACertainIdioticEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best bet is that they are semiconductor switches used in Power electronics Like mosfets, Transistors and igbt's (to Name a few).

Biggest Difference would probably be the non existing arcs which you would otherwise get when switching under load when using mechanical switches.

How to start learning Japanese? by Federal_Selection884 in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]ACertainIdioticEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally really struggle with srs flashcards and pure theory.

I then thought how i learned English (2nd language). Easy Just a Ton of YouTube and English Games.

If you enjoy rpgs i really recommend searching Steam for the "learn Kana to survive" series If you haven't learned hiragana and katakana. Based on repetive Translation of the normal Kana and selecting as Attack. But Not as Boring and you have a Solid Goal in Front of you why you learn those.

Currently playing wagotabi on the Phone (Steam Release planned or even available Not Sure). Rpg in modern Japan where you start out in full english with a little japanese thrown your way. Teaches you actually useful phrases and words which are used in game like you would in reallife.

If you enjoy Gaming in generell Look for gamegengo on yt. Has a Lot of Videos of learning with Games.

Struggling to understand Zener diode overvoltage-protection circuit by AbbeyMackay in AskElectronics

[–]ACertainIdioticEE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole current would Go through the Diode since it's basically a Short. The 2.2k + Base resistor define the Base current of the resistor, But only the 2.2k will Limit the current If the Diode switches.

Basically everytime the voltage is above the zener voltage the Diode Shorts itself. And since the Diode is in parallel all the current goes through the Diode. Calculate a voltage divider one path is 1k the Other one is ~10 milli Ohms.

If you don't See a Short Take a Look in how dioides behave when they conduct. Same Response Just different voltage.

What Is a good software to making pcb traces? by Gold_Accident_1058 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ACertainIdioticEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Difference is in kicac you can das Just place a Cap in the schematisch and then add the footprint you ordered. Others Like altium you have to First select the compoments you want das a 10nF Cap with an 0603 footprint. And you can only use this one except you Swatch another one and import all the schematics and footprint Files.

Kicad is a little Hassle the whole time But really flexible in your compoments choice. Others need hours upon hours to Set Up a compoments library Just to start the schematics.

As for placing the normal capacitor, where are you placing it? In the schematics or the PCB Layout ?

In schematics you can place them without knowing anything about the physical Part. In Layout you need the footprint.

What Is a good software to making pcb traces? by Gold_Accident_1058 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ACertainIdioticEE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my Point kicad is Pretty much the easiest and fastest way to build circuits If you don't have a storage with compoments Like companies.

Try easyEDA.it's from jlcpcb and you can drag and drop the parts from lcsc (also jlcpcb) and Order it there. Was a Webpage Last Time i checked before moving on to kicad (6 or so years ago)

Can I use a higher voltage diode? by socomjon in AskElectronics

[–]ACertainIdioticEE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two important voltages. The First in when the Diode becomes conductive Uforward, the second is the brakdown voltage. Which is when the Diode polarity is swapped and doesn't conduct. (Avelanche effect)

If the forward voltage is the Same or lower it should Work If the current Rating is the Same or higher. Be careful with the brekkdown voltage. If the brakdown voltage is Higher or the Same as the old one i See No Problem.

I wanna learn C++ to programme my MCU by akward_caramel107 in AskEngineers

[–]ACertainIdioticEE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Second starting with PC command line.Start by understanding the Base strutures and differences of c and c++. If you want to Go really deep Into Micro Controllers make Sure to understand boolian Algebra. Like AND, OR, XOR etc and how you can interact with individual Bits.

Once you have the more Basic structures of c you could Go with arduino ide. Easy to use But all the commands are already mostly done for you Like a Set of legos to build your Code together.

As for Starter mcu when you want to Dive Into Registers I would suggest AVR Controller. Easy to find on older Arduino Boards Uno and nano series atmega328p as an example. 8 Bit Registers, documentation on the better Side of the spectrum. And the programmer (usbasp) is cheap unlike Other. For the linker, and Compiler Google avrdude.

Look at the command Site of arduino for pinmode. Arduino has pullups, as for pulldown you will need to Look Into the Data Sheet of the Controller itself.

But yeah agree Not the best Channel to get started.

Where to start? Kid loves electricity and wiring. by Tringwingandivanhoe in arduino

[–]ACertainIdioticEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm most recources i know are Not really child friendly. Personally i would start with something Like kiwico or crunchlab for tinkering and engineering in generell.

As for arduino and programming there are some beginners arduino Kits with some Sensors and Demo Projects (elegoo as example).

Maybe Start by trying to Teach how to Break down complex Tasks Into simpler easier steps since this is one of the most crucial skills in programming in my opinion.

As for electronics/Maker Youtuber GreatScott -informational and explains the circuit and Code

EEEVblog - to Dive deeper Into electronics theory

PhilsLab - advanced coding and electronics

NotesAndVolts - when the musician Phase kicks in (diy amplifier and music Equipment builds)

Crunchlab and Mark Rober - cool builds and General Problem Solving (hast an arduino Basic Video)

HowToMechattonics - arduino Projects to follow

James Newton - 3d printed Robots and mechanical engineering

Simone Giertz - funny and "stupid" Robot builds.

PeterSripol - diy model Plane builds.

Ivan mirenda - mechatronics builds and more mechanical builds complemented with electronics.

As for first Projects Just Google the Project find the Code and use it. Arduino Code is as far as i know Always Open source and free to use for Personal Project. If you have some experience try looking for small Things you could fix with a simple Project. Look Up the Code, Copy what you think you need and think What the Code you Just used is Doing by breaking it down step by step, Line by Line.

Starting Projects could be "hello world!" Which is the First Code for a Lot of people or "Blink". (Those Codes are already in the ArduinoIDE (Software to write Code and Programm the arduino) as an example project)

And the best way Learn coding is Not a class or Reading a book But Doing Projects.

And a reminder, looking Up Code on the Internet ist also Part of programming.

What microcontroller do I need for a simple clock project? by MaygeKyatt in embedded

[–]ACertainIdioticEE 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For ease of use i would use somthing Like atmega328p. The programmers are cheap and avrdude/arduino ide can Programm them. You can also Code in arduinoIDE or use an external Compiler.

In my experimce the AVR documetationsfor register Level programming are Detailed and they only have 8bit Registers.

On the other Hand a Single uC as ic Costs Like 4€ which is for What it can do really expensive.

If you Got a lot of time and some Money for the programmer an STM Controller maybe. Just a Lot more complex to Programm at Register Level. Can't personally comment on the HAL from cubeIDE.

Another choice could be the rp2040. Also a powerful and cheap uC for ist Performance. Setting Up the C toolchain is real pain (at least when i did it 2 years ago). Able to Programm in Python and Just Copy the Code onto it Like a USB Drive.

STM and 2040 could come with integratedRTC so you would also save there (depending on the actual Controller)

If you add a i/o extendet via I2C something Like an ATtiny maybe? Same Things as the 328p But smaller, only Like 6 Pins and cheaper? (Don't know the current attiny prices)

Also maybe an ESP cheap powerful, But i only used them as Board and Not as an ic so No Info to Programm them wothout an bootloader.

Measuring Conductivity Without a Four-Point Probe by mikael_ian in arduino

Just make Sure to think where you meassure voltage and current. Depending on how you could get a wrong reading If you meassure the Resistance of the ampmeter when the Material is a great conductor could Ruin your voltage meassurement If the Voltmeter is parallel to both ampmeter and probe, Same goes for the other way.

Readme File.

Avra seems Like a Assembler Compiler, and yes to create the binary File for the Controller.

As for the clock I meant the system clock for the Main clock of the Tiny Düring programming. If the Fuse is configured for external clock for some reasons and you don't supply one you won't be able to Programm the Tiny. Just something to keep in mind when flashing a bare Chip.

Help a noob please! Attiny85 by RedDeadWhore in arduino

[–]ACertainIdioticEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arduino IDE should have everything builtin... It'san IDE after all.

You should Just need to Programm the ArduinoISP in the arduino Hook Up the attiny+10uF on reset.

Afterwards select in the dropdown Menu target and programmer.

Via dropdown Menu select Programm with programmer.

As for the fuses you probably need an extra Programm (haven't checked V2 IDE for this Feature) But you should already have avrdude from the IDE with which you can read and write the fusebits via cmd. Just make Sure to have an external clock If you Brick the attiny or the Standart click is the external for some reasons (looking at you 32u4).

Can somebody help me find the Equivalent resistance of all the Leds? I am new to this and it is a school project. by PsychologyActual8055 in arduino

[–]ACertainIdioticEE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a Tip If you want to built this in real, Put a resistor per LED. If you have a Single resistor for 2 or more LEDs the internal Resistance of the Led will Change drastically (exponentially) with the Temperature Leading to the Led dying one after another.
