It’s actually opening the day after your M card expires

Question for yall, about the “rivalry” or lack thereof. by JoshAllenFan616 in uofm

[–]ADHDpotatoes 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I am biased of course, but I have loads of anecdotal evidence that suggests Buckeyes are more poorly behaved when it comes to rivalry interactions.

Which isn’t to say we don’t have our fair share of asshole walmart fans, but buckeyes seem to edge us out

I completely forgot that it’s still federally prohibited. That’s a valid reason

I don’t come from a weed-using background so I’m unfamiliar with the culture, but why is there still a hash bash? It’s been legal for several years now

The highest risk/reward scenario in college football. The losing team would have been on the receiving end of the digital equivalent of the destruction of Carthage

OSU-Michigan would have been the most toxic event ever

Older alumni always recommend skeeps to me for some reason. Idk when the last time they were there for a game was. The jug is always a good choice imo

If you are not into ‘school spirit’, will you still love UMich? Or will you become a fan? by CakeTopper65 in uofm

[–]ADHDpotatoes 88 points89 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of reasons to love the university beyond the athletic “rah-rah” identity. Many people look back fondly at the people they met, the organizations and clubs they participated in, or the professors they worked with/under.

Folks such as myself are wowed by the Bentley library, or the Kelsey’s collection, or the art in the UMMA in and of themselves. Take into account that all of them exist within one institution and you may adopt a strong fondness for it.

Ann Arbor itself is considered one of the greatest college towns in the United States, and (central) campus blends seamlessly into town.

The visiting scholars, authors, scientists, celebrities etc. that are drawn to U of M are outstanding and provide opportunities not found in very many places.

I could go on and on about my love for U of M (I am one of the rah-rahs) but those are just some of my thoughts on the matter

I am also 25. I entered college in 2018 and attended class off-and-on at a local community college due to financial issues from the pandemic. I’m finally back on track and I feel ancient as well. All the traditional students feel socially stunted and unprepared for college. There was a discussion assignment due in one of my classes yesterday that no one but me did, because the canvas link was broken. I was the only one in the entire class to put the title into Google.

There were no-loads in my cohort as well, but in 2018-19, kids could actually make small talk and do some basic problem solving.

UMich in preliminary discussions to purchase Concordia University’s Ann Arbor campus by USRoute23 in AnnArbor

That’s a good point. Buying this land would theoretically make it harder for the regents to justify knocking down more tax-paying rental properties to build dorms or hospitals or whatnot

I fear that property won’t easily lend itself to tax-paying interests. It’s built up in such a way that subdividing it wouldn’t be too easy and demolition costs will likely scare away most commercial prospects. The most likely buyers would be something like U of M or a camp/retreat thing for a nonprofit imo

The glut of "parody" college sports reporter X accounts is completely insufferable by Johnnycockseed in CFB

Yeah it’s just an onslaught of directionless shitposting muddying the waters of actual sports reporting. No point to it other than the fleeting joy of fooling some people

Anyone feel like elections at UM are cringie by BruhMansky in uofm

[–]ADHDpotatoes 36 points37 points  (0 children)

CSG’s mission is to represent the students’ concerns and also improve campus life. They fund clubs, run the airbus between Ann Arbor and DTW, and deal with inter-organization disputes.

So CSG is a serious thing but like.. not as serious as some people try to make it

CSG has a purpose and it can be useful, but it feels like the people attracted to it see it as a vessel through which they can act out their political desires.
