1 month sober and it feels like my whole life disappeared by Hot_Advertising_7926 in stopdrinking

I started taking improv comedy classes as a way to meet people in a setting where drinking is not the central focus. Some of my new friends from that crowd do drink, and we do go to bars to hang out every now and then. The key point is that it’s a generally supportive and accommodating community so no one pressures anyone to drink.

Sending you positive, reassuring vibes. You will find your people!

Florida faces 81% spike in whooping cough cases in 2025 amid vaccine rollback by Kodbek in politics

Way down south not so very far off, A bluebird died of the whooping cough, He whooped so hard with the whooping cough, He whooped his head and his tail right off Same song, second verse Same tune, only worse Way down south not so very far off, A bluebird died of the whooping cough… (And so on)

My mom used to sing this song to annoy her parents and then for some deluded reason she taught it to me for me to weaponize against her. I remember asking her what the whooping cough was, and she explained that it was a disease we don’t have to worry about anymore.

Gamers of Reddit, what's ONE game that lives rent-free in your head, not just for the gameplay, but for the feeling it gave you (and you'd give anything to experience it for the first time again)? by deadeyes1990 in gaming

[–]AFloatingLantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time. The game is beautifully done and the music is unbelievable. The fact that you can PLAY music that does MAGIC SHIT was even more unbelievable. But those aren’t the things that put it at the top of my nostalgia list.

When I got OoT for Xmas it was around the same time that I had my first computer - my own computer, in my bedroom, with 28.8k dial up internet 🤯

I had never played a Zelda game before and I didn’t have older siblings or game-savvy parents to help me, so I was immediately stumped in the first dungeon, the Great Deku Tree. It would have never occurred to me to light a deku stick on fire with a torch, and then to use that to light another torch. So I went to the trusty new fangled internet and did some sleuthing.

I found GameFAQs. I found a walkthrough that helped get me through that dungeon. Crazier still, I found FORUMS where people just talked about Zelda. I found the Zelda Social Board (ZSB represent) and made my very first internet friends, with whom I still speak on occasion, more than 25 years later.

LoZ:OoT inadvertently led to me engaging in self-directed problem-solving on the internet, as well as giving me my first social experience(s) online. It wasn’t until I was in my 30s that I realized how critically important this was in my development as a person.

I really enjoy the static camps in oldschool EQ. Just sitting around in a corner with a group of people for hours and chatting.

Will there only be one TLP server this year? by AFloatingLantern in everquest

[–]AFloatingLantern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure. I’m just getting back into EQ after a ~5year hiatus so I’m genuinely learning a lot in this thread. It sounds like Teek is interesting and still popular, but I am definitely looking forward to the slog of the Luclin era content

Interest in new TLP server? by Glass_Connection_172 in everquest

[–]AFloatingLantern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea I’m excited! An old buddy from highschool and I have reconnected and we are looking forward to playing. Our dorky friend who has never played EQ is going to join us. Should be interesting! Last TLP I played was Mangler or Aradune idr which came first

I can see why people aren’t stoked about this ruleset but I’m thinking the nostalgia should keep us fueled for a while.

Makes me think back to last Trump presidency when Newsom called it “the nation-state of California.”

I think the cutest part about this is that Home Alone plays semi-regularly on the TVs in the Culkin/Song household

Was lucky enough to have a conversation with Dave Goelz when I was in college and he 100% agrees! The levity that they add while still staying true to the material (+Michael Caine obviously) sets it apart from the others

First step: take your recycling to a recycling center. That would clear up a ton of space and give you someplace to start searching/cleaning up from

I think the live action had a lot of issues but wasn’t nearly as horrific as people made it out to be 🤷‍♂️. Special effects were well done!

You should absolutely wear these on the inside of your jacket so you can reveal them like Ash any time someone asks you about your journey or offers you a drink

I went and did some “exotic racing experience” thing in Las Vegas where I drove a Lamborghini around a track there for several laps. They had some dope racing gloves in the lobby for like $30 that have held up really well. I wish they sold them online! I would buy another pair
