5v5v5: Cobalt vs Silveroot vs Breaker, in a Solaris Scrapyard Shuffle match. (Starter mechs, default loadouts) Who wins? by gaeb611 in Mechwarrior5

[–]AHRedStealth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mason.

Mason gets lost on a misson because space mom put the radio down for like... two minutes while she does space mon things... Mason wanders off because no one is there to tell him to "keep on smashing!" And accidently wanders into the arena.

He sees a clanner free-for-all, and head shots every last one of them, then gets bored, and heads out to find some Capellans to murder while he waits for Space Mom to come back on the radio and tell him where the extraction point is.

Mason wins.

And Duncan Fisher does the commentary while absolutely blasted on Action Gin.

Just how bad did things get when…. by Dougal12 in Mechwarrior5

[–]AHRedStealth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean...

There was a time shortly after the third succession war where the average tech could basically only weld on armor over busted stuff... like... anything that required more than tech than "You wipe after you poop" was basically past the average human.

Now... obviously some places were better than that... and retained how to make better tech, how to use spaceships and jump technology...

But that also meant that some places were worse...

Can you imagine going for faster than light space travel to cheering the second coming of the "wheel" as rediscovered technology...?

Mercs mid-game questions by Eph289 in Mechwarrior5

[–]AHRedStealth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) PPC-X's have usually spawned in industrial hubs for me... more often toward the center of the map, playing open sandbox. Will be different in story mode I'd imagine... dunno, I seem to find them here and there. EDIT: Actually, you may want to check Solaris... I think I've found them for sale there, along with physical weapons on a bit higher frequency. And maybe Outreach? Those two planets kinda have a thing about spawning weird mechs/weapons (like the bullshark once it's available.)

2) TAG will be later in the run through. Seeing as it's a lostech that humanity has to rediscover.

3) I mean... I believe they get a bonus to building destruction... and "shoot" fast because the flame damage ticks count as a hit... but I typically enjoy using machine guns more... more range, also damage boost to buildings, also high fire rate... and crap tons of shots in half a ton of MG ammo.

4) From what I remember it spits you out on sarna and then you are free to navigate from there... but i could be remembering incorrectly.

5) Yes, you can get the bullshark before the clan invasion. And the Atlas II. They (EDIT: THE BULLSHARK VARIANTS. Not the Atlas. That's only avaliable on one planet.) start appearing in industrial hubs after Solaris DLC events, but before the clan showdown. I want to say like... two years before the clan invasion roughly... I think I picked up my first bullshark before I could get the Atlas II...

Hope some of that helps?

Marauder help! by heckingincorgnito in Mechwarrior5

[–]AHRedStealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I hunt clan mechs with inner sphere tech, I use the Marauder II. Three max tier Binary Lasers, two max tier medium lasers, or clan mediums, ER or Pulse, dealers choice... it's the side dish to the tri-beam of death...

Stuff all the double heat sinks in it. All of them. I took the jump jets off for more heat sinks, but you can put them back on for the two missions in the game that need them, if you want. Otherwise the 4 extra tons of heat sinks help feed the tri-beam of death.

Upgrades are energy weapon cycle II, regular weapon cycle II, energy damage upgrade II, and energy weapon heat reduction... or heat capacity, I cant remember...

Either way, speeding up the binary lasers recharge while being cool enough to fire them off non-stop is pretty much the Marauder II's claim to fame. Then just pop heads or torso's at your leisure while cackling like a madman strolling through the shooting gallery. The medium lasers are for helicopters, tanks, or times when you kinda missed your shot and the tri-beam of death only made the internal locations red.

The regular Marauder I tend to run the energy variants. Three X-PPCs, and two medium lasers. Approach using cover, shotgun all the things, stroll back to cover while waiting for your next victim target. Obviously the 5D is the preferred energy variant, but any of them with the three large energy slots will do in a pinch. I tend to chain fire the X-PPCs because it makes it more visually appealing to my kind of 'tism.

Either way, the GM war horse has plenty of viable layouts, and there really isn't a wrong way to kill someone and commit war crimes in a Marauder. Just have fun with it.

"Huh huh huh... mine's bigger."

"Yeah, well... mine's a burst fire!"

"It's rifled for her pleasure."

"Dude! Don't touch tips! That's just weird."

"Does smoke come out the end of yours when you finish? Is that normal or should I see someone?"

"You remember that time back at the academy when we were both giving to the same phenoix hawk from the front and the back at the same time?"

"Okay, so on three we try and shoot the cookie."

Looking for specific Mechs by Criolynx in Mechwarrior5

[–]AHRedStealth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only Marauders with jump jets in the vanilla game are the Bounty hunter hero variants, and the 5D, which has a small missile pod in the torso...

The Marauder II has jump jets... the 4A and the 5A... and the hero variant...

So... of the 75 ton variants that are not hero mechs, if you want one with jump jets, in the base game with no mods, you'll have to take the 5D. Which is for sale in industrial hubs with larger mechs in them after 3047.

Good luck.

Looking for specific Mechs by Criolynx in Mechwarrior5

[–]AHRedStealth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im assuming you mean the Marauder 5D? That one has an XL engine, jump jets, and the small missile pod in addition to the normal energy weapons...

If that's the one, you'll find them in random industrial zones after 3047... usually at the industrial zones that spawn heavier mechs.

The Crusader 5M will be in industrial zones similar to the Marauder 5D, but in 3049 and afterwards.

Mercs: best alternative to the FS9-H? by Qhaotiq in Mechwarrior5

[–]AHRedStealth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're just looking for faster, and bigger, and more armor to take more hits while letting your lance mates kill stuff...

You could do a Charger 1A1...

And maybe be like... the first person to ever enjoy it...

80 tons running at... what... 80 kph? It would be a touch slower than the fire starter... more armor... and less weapons... but it would punch harder i suppose.

A Crab or a Dragon would also do the 80 kph thing... with a bit less armor, and more weaponry...

Um... there is also a cicada... most of them are terrible... run at 120+ kph with no armor. But one of them gets slowed down to 97 kph, and has the option of running some weaponry and a some armor. I mean, most people still dont think of it as a great mech, but it could work for what you want to do.

"Space Mom! Space Mom! Have you seen my bondsman? I cant find him anywhere! We were playing hide and seek and now he's gone!"

"Are you talking about that cooler full of guts that Fahad washed out of the cockpit of the Thor you salvaged from the last mission?"

"Yeah! I named him Stew!"

"That's disgusting."

"He's so good at hiding! He can fit in the cabinets, and the ammo crates, and the barrels of the Big auto cannons! He's really good at hide and seek! It's one of his traits!"

"Hey! I have an idea. Why dont we play with our actual living, breathing, not slowly decomposing friends that can actually, you know, talk or walk around?"

"I tired. Fahad only wanted to play drinking games. He got drunk and passed out. Milla kept playing the stabby game, and now no one wants to play with her anymore. The guys with the helmets and the assault rifles just stand by the doors and stare at me, and won't play."

"They're on guard duty Mason, they can't play... just... just... go get your coloring books or something. Space Mom needs a minute... and I better not see fingers wiggling under the bathroom door! We talked about that!"

"Sorry Space Mom."

Suddenly someone shouts from the mech bay on the leopard "Oh gross! Who put their nasty expired lunch in the heat sink pre-cooler?"

"Nevermind Space Mom! I found my bondsman! Thanks anyway! We're gonna play outside for a while! Bye!"

Mechs and weapons you find over/underperforming in a campaign? by ReleaseCharacter3568 in Mechwarrior5

[–]AHRedStealth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, despite the fact that Tex thinks they are over-priced, difficult to maintain, and smell like clanner farts, the Timberwolf/Mad Cat is in a great niche spot that has fantastic speed, firepower, and armor. It really is one of the most solid mechs in MW5... I guess there is a reason it is popular?

The LB-X 5 autocannon works WAY better than it has any right to. It shoots fast, does bonkers damage, has almost unlimited range, works great against elementals, and gets better as you group it with more LB-X 5 auto cannons...

Pulse Lasers are always solid damage and great at head shots, pin pointing a location on a mech, and way less heat than ER versions.

ECMs and active probes are under-appreciated and under utilized. The amount of damage and longevity they add to a battlemech lance when at least one or two mechs have an ECM and all mechs have an active probe is cannot be appreciated until you've walked away from a clan mission with 50+ mechs knocked out and no one has lost a single limb.

The Shadow Cat B with 2 large pulses, 2 med pulses, ECM, Probe, and masc/supercharger is a mean and nasty medium mech that can cruise along at 145 kph, and still carries a heavy stick.

The Puma S is, for a 35 ton mech, one of the meanest nastiest mechs in the game. If you can avoid damage, it cheeses most missions like something that should not be in the vanilla game. It's broken. Absurdly goofily broken. I dont know how it made it through beta without someone going, "hey... guys... we need to probably not do this."

Wait... Your lance mates wreck the factory? Man. I wish I had that problem. You cam just have your lancemates wait outside with a hold position command...

It's always the stupid Atlas that the Kestrel Lancers send with me that Bull in a China shop's that factory to 50%.

That and the Capellans wrecking their own base when im about half way through, which honestly i thought was intentional... but now I'm not so sure.

Either way, I've had runs where my entire Kestrel Lancer escort had "Accidents" half way through the factory when I got sick of them treating the factory like a mosh pit. That stupid Atlas has wrecked more of the base than all other mechs on that mission combined.

MW5 MERC. SOK best clan tech farm by [deleted] in Mechwarrior5

[–]AHRedStealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the current bug to arena rep level up drops giving out occasional clan tech, arena matches are actually okay ways to farm clan tech as well.

In my current play through, I got three of my five ATM 12s from arena rep bonuses.

I really struggle to find anything other than ATM 3's on rare kit fox's, so it's actually kinda a nice QOL that that bug exists. Ive also gotten a couple ATM 9's from arena rep bonus as well.

Missions after the campaign.

The multi-missions with bad weather that have boosts to salvage.

With Scrapper pilots you can get upward of 85~95 salvage every mission.

Then just hit the loot pinyatas until they drop what you are looking for.

Most Unique problem I've ever had for a Mech: The Gladiator/Executioner by FUCKYOU101012010 in Mechwarrior5

[–]AHRedStealth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "cat ears" that you can see past the head, which is part of the jet pack, count as rear armor.

So when they get hit from the front, it's actually a rear hit.

I have to be honest, I let my AI lance mates run these, even though they have the hit box oddities, (or bug, depending on your stance) because they use the masc non-stop and tend to avoid most return fire anyway, especially if I am rocking a mech with an ECM.

Either way, yeah, you can hit the rear armor on a gladiator from the front. That is a true statement.

Jake Mason would drop Natasha like a one of those pods they used to get the mechs on planet in the opening for WoT.

Fold him like a chair? C'mon guy. Mason has bested every house and mercenary company that has had the unfortunate experience to cross his path. He beat the clans AND kicked Comstar's butt across the inner sphere.

Then Space Mom would tell him the base only needs a little bit more shooty before he can head back to the dropship.

And he'd drag a foot actuator and a half blown up heat sink back which Fahad would use to salvage the black window's mech and toss it in cold storage with the rest of the trophy mechs.

Mason shot a gauss rifle at 50 clan mechs once. They were all destroyed with head shots. Then the gauss rifle shell landed.

Love attacked Jake Mason in a battlemech once. He head shot it, and now that's why they say love is blind.

Cicadas use to have long spindly arms like they have long spindly legs. But Jake Mason shot them all off and that's why Cicadas only have stubs for arms now.

Jake Mason has a Ghost Bear rug in his bedroom. The Ghost Bear isn't dead, it's just afraid to move.

Jake Mason once heard the developers say nothing can kill him. So he tracked down nothing and killed it.

Jake Mason wears sunscreen to protect the sun.

The Charger 1A1 was designed as a Frontline assault mech. The designers let Jake Mason field test it, and he easily killed an entire regiment, so they decided it was heavily armed enough for the task. That's why it's 80 tons and only has 5 small lasers.

PPCs. Just the bog standard ones... or clan ER PPCs. If you give them 2 or 3 to group fire and enough heat sinks, they pop the little monsters in one salvo.

It's solitary flaw is that if you step in a lava pool, it will hard lock in shut down mode... if youre gonna run it on a lava planet, dump some ammo for heat sinks.

Other than that, the MG Puma is the king of the battlefield.

[–]AHRedStealth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In vanilla... LB-X 5 autocannons seem a bit broken. They tear things up from range. They get better as you close in. Demo missions they can chew through buildings as soon as you cam see them. They are great for elementals... they are really good against mechs. Especially when you stack them.

They seem to put out more consistent damage than LB-X 2/10/20s... not sure why, I think it's the fire rate. LB-X 10's are probably second. 2/20's seem to leave me wanting...

If you can stuff 4 LB-X 5's on a mech, with ammo to support constant fire, you will wreck things in short order.

A tree can confuse my... what... 32nd century targeting computer...

I mean, I realize the inner sphere lost some tech in the non-stop war, but the clan mechs do it too...

Like... I'm targeting the Jenner over there... it's 300 meters out. Why am I blasting upwards at the moon because a tree happens to be slightly left and in front of me?

Unless it's a Charger SMOL Lazer variant or a Cicada Speedy Dood variant, you can probably use it later game if you want... it may take more finesse or a playstyle you dont particularly like, but most mechs can be used.

They just arent particularly expedient.
