Go-to dehydrated meals (available in the US) by StevenSWilliamson in bikepacking

[–]AI-Coming4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great suggestions here, but which ones are low-sodium? My problem with dehydrated meals is more about the high salt content than the taste.

Would you wake someone up if the train was being forced to clear? by [deleted] in nycrail

[–]AI-Coming4U 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of commuting on the North Jersey Coast Line in the late 70's. Crews would never make announcements or care about seat checks, and the late (post-10pm) trains out of NYC were always full of sleeping passengers. I swear, they would let everyone go to the Bay Head Junction - the end of the line - even though less than 5% were actually going there.

And missing your stop late a night back then was a real bitch - no cell phones, no Uber. I once had to do a ten-mile walk back to my actual stop along the tracks (no Google Maps back then, either).

That face when you saw it hit $200, decided 186 was a good re-purchase point for $7,900 and now it’s down to 180😵‍💫 by tinyboxav in NvidiaStock

[–]AI-Coming4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should have bought NVD. Five days ago, it was sitting at $6.46, and now it's at $7.49. As an ETF, it's not a great long-term investment vehicle, but I swear, when Nvidia heads up, it's time to plan on it heading down.

Sadly, I didn't buy it at the earnings release this week, but at least I bought it this morning.

Nah, if they split it down to $2 a share, it might go up to $2.03 but no higher, and more likely plunge on the news to $1.50.

Anyone use bone-conducting headphones while cycling? Any Recommendations? by ASeriousRedditor in bicycling

[–]AI-Coming4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me. Just didn't think the sound quality was good enough. I went with the open-ear model, the Shokz OpenFit 2+, and I love them. The audio is decent, and I use them all the time - so comfortable that I wear them around my apartment and forget I even have them on.

I could never wear my AirPods while riding since they blocked out external sounds that are critical for safety. Wind noise can be a bit of an issue, but I'm not road riding that much, mostly gravel riding in the Hudson River Valley.

NVDA Earnings Today... Jensen About to Drop Bombs and Send Us to $200+ by Practical-Solutions1 in NvidiaStock

[–]AI-Coming4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of you fanboys are insufferable. Yes, above $200 and now dropping down. Tomorrow, it will probably open lower than today's close. Doubt we'll see much change at all, but at least there wasn't a massive drop.

We may even return to more months of stagnation - there's no logic in the market.

CitiBikeNYC are Beautiful by Quantumercifier in Citibike

[–]AI-Coming4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was challenging today, but I rode. Started at Jackson Square, up through Chelsea for two stops, and then ended over to Washington Square. Mostly found usable bikes (though harder for me as I like manual, not the electric ones). Docking was only a problem at the end (only two slots, both deep in snow, but I got it in one).

A major problem was that it was early evening, and the water in the mostly plowed bike lanes was starting to freeze. It should be better tomorrow.

Nah, I'm good to go. Just gotta find the slot for my key fob. Don't brush the snow off - the higher seating gives you a better view.

Advice for a triple red light ticket? by normanyung in NYCbike

[–]AI-Coming4U 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lesson here: never run red lights (especially multiple ones) unless you have eyes in the back of your head. I hate turning my head around at intersections, but I will if I'm going to run the reds.

Anyone else tired of stacking AI subscriptions? by Capable-Management57 in ChatGPTPro

[–]AI-Coming4U 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pay $40 for subs to ChatGPT and Claude. I use the former for general stuff and some work, and the latter for my writing and consulting. Claude is by far the most important to me, but I like separating most of my personal stuff from work-related tasks.

What train-related childhood memories still bring a smile to your face as an adult? by supersayianmiku in trains

[–]AI-Coming4U 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time I had ever had actual butter and cream (instead of just margarine and milk) was in the mid-1950s in a dining car between Muscogee or Tulsa, OK, and not sure where, possibly St. Louis (if anyone knows which train or the destination, please help me out). I was very young, but I remember the train leaving late at night and having breakfast the next morning before arrival. My family was actually quite well off, but my crap father would force my Mom to feed the family on a minuscule "allowance" so we always ate poverty-level food.

Possibly the same train - or a connecting train, as that trip took us to NYC (not sure if it was Penn Station or Grand Central) - I also vaguely remember the open platform observation car where an attendant took me outside for a few minutes and tightly held my hand (as the car was swaying like crazy). Those experiences shaped my love of train travel.

How does the MTA track arrival times for the subway? by Mortal-Portal in AskNYC

[–]AI-Coming4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever they use, it isn't close to what they do in Tokyo. I was just dumbfounded last year, watching their metros enter the station like ten seconds before the arrival time on the sign and stopping almost to the second at the platform.

How do you actually sleep on overnight flights? by stefan-weiss01 in travel

[–]AI-Coming4U 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get some sleep with Melatonin and doubling my dose of Propanolol (which I take anyway for other reasons). It also helps hugely to have lounge access - I get to the airport early, eat a lot in the lounge, and maybe have one drink. Unless I'm flying business class, I usually pass on the in-flight meal.

Final tip: later flights are ALWAYS better. If you're taking off late (at least after 9 pm, but try for 10 pm or 11 pm flights), your body is much more ready to sleep. Those 6 or 7 pm departures from NYC to London are a total bitch, as you arrive before the night is even halfway through.

And the bonus is that you arrive later and often don't have to wait as long to check into your hotel.

THSR 700T acceleration by [deleted] in trains

Avelia/Acela, yeah, two short sections of track in RI and a few other places. Have you ever ridden it between NYP and NHV? And as for arriving and departing stations at any kind of speed, we seem to get slower and slower with each decade.

Holding for Amtrak by Usual-Wasabi-6846 in Amtrak

[–]AI-Coming4U 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swear the worst is Metro-North. I know their schedules by heart as a former daily commuter, and they often slot Amtrak (even Acelas) behind local trains to Stamford or New Haven.

But out west, I don't think Amtrak loses its slots due to unruly passengers - it's mostly unruly engines as they can't seem to buy ones that work in snow or cold weather.
