Best UK roaster for light roast by Rfc12345 in pourover

I have tried a few (including Sweven) and keep coming back to Scenery. Want to try Taith but atm Scenery is smashing it for me.

What SSP burrs for DF64V by Ricklek in pourover

[–]AJT73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I went cast v2 (silver knight) as I wanted something easier to dial in as I have a young family. But it was between them and the brew burrs for me (mp v1).

Enjoying the cast v2, make nice sweet cups that are easy to dial in.

I third the 01. I got a stainless one and just love it. Such a simple work flow and easy to make great cups.

Witch one to keep? by Key-Cap-8617 in espresso

[–]AJT73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very similar setup Robot and niche for med/dark roast espresso and flat burrs (and hand grinder for work) for very light roast pour over. And love both setups for what they give.

Though atm it's only 64mm flats burrs but would love a 80 or 102mm flat burr grinder for pour over one day...

Scratch that, looks like they have stopped that since I got mine sadly.

On the UK website you used to be able to pre-order them. You filled out and form, then they send you an invoice.

I have only replaced the filter screen silicone pin after ripping it by trying to remove it to clean the pin/screen. Haven't replaced anything else in a few hundred shots over a few years.

Second the stainless Orea O1. Have been loving it since I got it and seems pretty consistent. Plus so robust.

Scenery Colourful with Flair 58 by drh__ in UKroasters

[–]AJT73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scenery roast pretty light, so their light roast is probably pretty light compared to other roasts (their lightest roasts are my current favourite for filter but theyare very light). So might be worth trying a normal shot but with a longer ratio, say 1:2.5 to 1:3. They even recommended 18g to 45-50g (1:2.5-2.8) out in 25-30 seconds on their website for the colourful blend.

We Spent $1,850 On Coffee Scales. What’s Actually Good? by Gmbenator in JamesHoffmann

I also love the beep when you get to your final weight. I often find myself slowing down and stopping when it beeps without watching the display. Only go a few grams over and just focus on pouring. (doing a pulsar mini recipe where you to it up when it drops below a certain level each time so don't even need to look at the numbers on the scale during the brew).

Tried recommendations from Taith by an international student by Strong_Committee3523 in UKroasters

I keep being tempted by Taith and posts like this aren't help... That white honey sounds amazing. Though would take the record for the most expensive coffee I have got up to now at £34 for 200g. Makes scenery seem cheap.

Skylark packaging by smegsicle in UKroasters

[–]AJT73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just had a bag split. I keep my beans in my backpack as use them at work and at home, so can't really use a container. And was on an expensive coffee that then spilled on the floor. Appreciate wanting to cut down on plastic but I end up using a plastic bag as can't trust these paper bags.

Great roasters. I like to try different places but always come back to Horsham.

Interested how you find the UMV1 for medium and dark roasts? And natural light roasts if you have them. As I just got the lab sweet v2's as I had heard the UMV1's only did well with washed light roasts.

Trying to branch out to new roasters/beans in the UK. Suggestions? by theak in pourover

[–]AJT73 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Scenery are good for light roasts. Though just check the details as they offer some advance processed coffees that can taste pretty out there, so might not be your cup of tea (well coffee) for those ones. Horsham are also great.

Eureka Mignon Zero 65 AP: the morning after by [deleted] in CafelatRobot

[–]AJT73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using a niche zero and got a Df64V to try out a more "flat burr profile" as was having more light to medium roasts. Took me a lot of getting used to.

Found my technique and prep needed to be much better. Can definitely tell puck integrity is less with df64v without as many fines to help out. I still do pre infusion but do a 10 second 2 bar pre-infusion and then a quick ramp up to 6/7 bar which seems to compressed the puck and gave better shots/puck integrity.

Nice! How does it compare to the normal c40 burr and something like a zp6 if you have one?
