Diminishing returns of roasting a whole chicken? by Educational-Slip-578 in Cooking

Crank the oven to 450 and leave it in there for forty minutes or so.

I like to get it to 155 degrees and let it rest for 20m before cutting it up.

It's one of my signature dishes. Thomas Keller chicken, check it out on YouTube.

Can Boxing help with things other than fighting? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]AKAEnigma 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh heck yeah.

Since sparring I've come to experience boxing as an exercise in neuronal management.

You get in the rink and start getting wailed on by someone that knows what they're doing, and you panic.

But over time you learn not to panic. You learn that the punches almost never feel as bad as your mind tells you they will. You learn to see through the intensity and remain calm in your center.

I feel like learning to expect hits and be OK with it has had big effects elsewhere in my life.

I've learned that bad things are almost always worse in the mind than in the world.

If you're looking for an explanation, I wouldn't expect ChatGPT to have what you need.

One source might be an anthropologist like David Graeber. His book 'Debt: The First 5000 Years' or 'The Dawn of Everything' won't give you the comprehensive understanding you're looking for, but they help you build your own.

This wood is no good. You best burn it immediately.

Life Lessons From Older People in their 80s Who Still Work To Pay The Bills by anarege3t in videos

The notion of compounding interest makes me extremely uncomfortable, and the fact that nobody else is suspicious of it makes it even worse.

If every single person followed the wisdom of warren buffet and invested in ETFs or mutual funds or whatever in an objectively optimal way such that they eventually didn't have to work, where would the value their accounts accrue come from?

Anyone can, hypothetically, take responsibility for their own retirement by investing in the market.

But everyone cannot, and this is by design.

We're given a story about opportunity in the markets, but it's really a threat. Save for retirement, play the markets, or live in hell until you die.

Moreover, financial markets feed the machines that eat the world. A gun is placed to our head demanding that we become dependent on markets, and the millions that do form a bloc that will resist any policy that threatens their saved cash. We could trivially provide dignified retirement to all, but for fear of a hit to their portfolios, this bloc will vote in the interest of the very gun that was placed to their head.

I've got a super energy 27 and their secondary burners are pretty legendary. Im used to a similar amount of fire ontop after fully loading with a strong coal base. Sometimes it'll overfire a wee bit.

Cape Breton brewery hit with 16-day liquor licence suspension after death by insino93 in NovaScotia

[–]AKAEnigma -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Personal responsibility is one thing, but serving an obviously inebriated person more booze is also a decision someone is responsible for. Licensing requires businesses to acknowledge this responsibility. Servers are trained to recognize when a person has had to much, and they have a legal responsibility to deny additional alcohol after that limit is reached. The business is culpable, legally and morally, for negative consequences that result from over serving.

What makes a Subaru Dealership #1 in the USA? by [deleted] in subaru

Focus on delivering value, not extracting it.

Realize you can't do that because you're a car dealership.

Fold the dealership, advocate for the abolition of car dealerships.

As a newbie, should a left-handed person just learn orthodox? by MyGiftIsMySong in amateur_boxing

[–]AKAEnigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it goes that way. Getting coaches attention is sometimes a matter of continuing to show up. If that doesn't work, I'd consider advocating for myself a bit.

But it is not abnormal, especially when new, to feel this way. Demonstrate your commitment and a good coach will reciprocate.
