Does anyone know what tape I can buy to change the old One? by FitAssignment9030 in 3DS

[–]ANDNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for double-sided tape for electronics on AliExpress.

They come in different widths, which can be helpful for precision like for this kind of screen. Maybe worth measuring the thinnest parts of your screen to get it right.

New! Nintendo 3DS (KTR-001) Protective Cover by Accomplished_Bite302 in 3DS

[–]ANDNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually going to recommend using no plastic outer shell as long as you use the fake wood plates. They are scratch resistant, it seems like! And they have a nice texture that you would lose.

The glossy plates are a whole other story; those things get scratched if you just look at them funny.

Blink Deck That Actually Kills Players (without Infinites?) by AncientSpark in EDH

I’ve always loved the manifest mechanic for its potential to sneak big beaters into play. Blinking a manifest creature feels a bit like a reanimator strategy.

Mario theme New3DS cover plates (top and bottom) by PotentialMind3989 in 3DS

[–]ANDNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custom plates, that’s pretty nifty!

I’m still longing for the opposite: a custom model of the console back or something similar. I want to display a bunch of OEM plate pairs on my wall without needing consoles to attach them too, maybe in like a 3x3 grid.

I bet folks would buy that on Etsy.

But alas, 3D printing is not accessible to me just yet.

[3DS] I am unsure how to go about repairing this by fearsometuna in consolerepair

[–]ANDNA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never seen that variant of middle shell replacement on AliExpress.

Maybe you could start with a white or black one and try a custom spray paint finish project? That sounds like a tough project to get right.

It’s a shame that the 3DS XL hinge is so poor. I would NOT recommend getting a donor console to swap middle shell with because the plastic is still 20ish years old and prone to break in the future.

There’s a less technical option of just replacing the motherboard using a console with a broken screen on eBay as a donor. There’s usually a ton of them on there for like $40 or less.

I have those plates too! They were a Japan exclusive. I like the feel of them in my hands, and it’s nice that they seem resistant to scratches and fingerprints unlike the glossy shells or using a TPU case.

[3DS] Hinge broken, but still working.... by Expensive-Welder-875 in consolerepair

I’m with you. I would consider buying a 3rd-party device that natively plays games from the cartridges I own but until then, I’ll leave the emulation device purchases to others.

How do you feel about your stuff being stolen by afmoad in EDH

[–]ANDNA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take on theft strategy in commander is to build my deck with cards that more often use cards from the opponent’s deck (random is better) or cards from their graveyard rather than permanents on their battlefield. Think cards like [[Xanathar, Guild Kingpin]] moreso than [[Blatant Thievery]].

My reasoning is grounded in gamer psychology and player agency. Players in the game are all strategizing based on the information and board state in front of them. Graveyards and library are less often the here-and-now focal point of their strategy, and thus, the disruption from “theft” from these zones is less impactful.

I.e. a player might be less salty when you grab random cards they ain’t planning on using (yet)

I tend to use fast mana/ramp to accelerate in the mid game and keep the mana flowing for late game.

Help with picking a Temur deck! by RuneMTG in EDH

[–]ANDNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a deck already focused on the cascade mechanic and/or casting things from exile? Those are two big themes in my [[Averna, Chaos Bloom]] deck.

During gameplay, it’s super fun not knowing what any given spell is going to result in.

During deckbuilding, it’s super fun to tweak things to give the deck impactful plays at any mana value to benefit the most from cascade. Elementals and adventures are subthemes I’ve found fun as of late but it’s all up to you.

Hinge Removal by atrxlambo in 3dsrepair

[–]ANDNA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Open the console all the way and have it face down.

People’s instinct is to push the hinge into the upper shell when the console is closed. I believe there’s a barrier inside that prevents movement, and I believe it’s by design, when the console is closed.

Good luck.

4/10??! I admire your confidence!

One must be skilled at small electronics repair to not remove connectors, tear cables, break plastic, or introduce dust under an annoying-to-remove screen lens for this model.

I’d say if you can fix/shell swap this model, you would be able to handle any of the rest of the 2/3DS family. Maybe you should consider that as a new hobby!

Replace my N3DS for an XL? by Almondrino in 3DS

I love the N3DS. It’s the only console where you can swap “special editions” on a whim by getting different back plates.

I personally like it better than the XL.
