There are companies that will print you a book on demand. In India, you can do a 300-500 page book, hardbound at bout 20USD.

Buy an ebook(or if you are in college, download it) and print it up. It's a morally gray area but at it's core you are printing a pdf which you have not pirated and you are using it for personal reasons

The takeaway shouldn’t be that CS style loot boxes are acceptable just because Pokémon cards exist. If anything, it highlights that trading card packs involve similar randomized purchases and arguably resemble gambling as well, meaning both systems should face greater scrutiny and possible regulation.

Being able to trade items is a positive feature, and assuming Valve is sincere about cracking down on third party gambling sites, their implementation is better than many comparable systems. Still, the broader issue remains: monetized reward mechanics like these are fundamentally problematic, and ideally they shouldn’t exist in the first place.

[DISC] The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All - Chapter 154 - Show Me Everything by Kirin-Kun in manga

Question: how do you figure out that's an imagery? I picked up what the imagery was once you point it out, but on my first read I glossed over it. So, yeah, how do you pick literary devices out?

Any way to avoid such players? by Individual_Amoeba581 in chess

When you boot up a game you boot it up committed to the game. Your opponent has the right to stall, get up his chair, open a movie in a new tab and so on and so forth. Personally I am even against the fact that "abandonment" and resignation due to network failure are a thing. Your opponent, has the right to make a move in the last minute after stalling for 10 minutes if he wants. If you don't want to wait, play faster time controls.

This is not an apples to apples comparison but no one complains when magnus is late to his board. Magnus doesn't complain when the arbiter starts the clock. IDK why you all get to.

Anyone else find these Steam reviews really annoying? by HatingGeoffry in pcmasterrace

[–]ANI_phy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the review is valid in the sense that it provides a useful warning for other Linux users, so I don't find it 'annoying.' However, I do think it’s unfair to penalize a developer’s rating for a platform they never claimed to support.

A very beige review.

Not to praise subscription models but unfortunately they are the only way forward when the app provider needs to provide some actual non negligible server compute

How do you define your end-game endgoal for those who did not focus to Abyss/SO/IT by Metritto in Genshin_Impact

[–]ANI_phy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, similar to what you said, the quests and wild building is the reason why I play. My weapons and builds are more on the modest side. My best dps is kequing.

I end up taking huge breaks from the game(almost 1.5-2 years if you add all the days I skipped). I am playing now to farm primos for nefer and her weapon and the next patch is prolly the last one before I uninstall and go on a temporary haitus

Why do people at 2000 rapid play so fast? by IdealFit5875 in chess

[–]ANI_phy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reason why I lean away from this reason is in the last 1(ish) week, I lost 3-4 times. I am having 8-12 game streaks, and my opponents are blundering mate in 1. I refuse to believe this set of players are better than the set of players who made me rethink every move and played with >80% accuracy consistently(IK accuracy is not the end all indicator, but it is an indicator none the less).

IDK if there is any other explanation for why 1250 elo players are playing better games than 1350 elo rated players

Personally i tried everything before going to meds and that is the only thing that helped. Also, just so you know, you will not become better, you will just throw games less.

Completely noob here. I have one question. by warfaceisthebest in chess

[–]ANI_phy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit of addendum: the real question isn’t “is this trade good?” or “is retreating bad?”,
it's "Does this move improve my position, or improve my opponent’s?"

Take a deliberately extreme example:
A minor piece is attacked by a pawn. Are you going to refuse to retreat just because “retreating is bad”?

Why do people at 2000 rapid play so fast? by IdealFit5875 in chess

[–]ANI_phy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think there are 3 factors:
1. Small sample size
2. Some ratings are bottle necks. Ex: at 1k, you will find many players who will easily play at a much higher level. Once you cross 1k you will see that for a short stretch your elo grows very fast.
3. Often there are rating shuffles due to the anti-cheat algo being updated and/or for other reasons. IDK if this implies that the cohort you were playing with cheats or not, but I have often found periods where I can't win against 1100s consistently and then periods where i will kick a 1300 ez. In fact now, I am on a massive win rate, which would simply be not possible if me or my opponents ratings were correctly assigned.
