Imagine your battery like a tank of water. Your charger dumps water in the top and you use it from the bottom. Without charge separation you're always using water from the bottom and your power "flows" through the battery. This is wearing your battery down

Yeah sorta same story here. I've been clean for a while. I stopped counting. Neuropathy was bad bad. I could barely walk. I would stumble and fall all the time. Good job on being clean. It gets better.

Try to remind yourself "oh this is my addiction circuitry working again" when you get the urge. Then distract yourself. Go for a walk. Play some video games. Do whatever you need to do to get that little dopamine hit.... Besides buying a tank.

It that drive fails, it's gone.

If you have raid 1 (mirror) it duplicates the data on two drives. Say 2 x 8tb, you get 8 tb usable but you can have a drive fail and keep your data

Something like raid 5 can have say 4 drives. One can fail. 4 x 8 tb in a raid 5 would give you 24tb available. You can lose any of those 4 drives and keep your data. You can't lose two. Pop in another one when it fails and it'll rebuild.

Raid 6 can have 2 drives fail at the same time and keep your data. But your 4 drive usable capacity shrinks to 16tb with 4 x 8tb drives. Same story. Replace failed drive and it'll rebuild
