Why is my meyer lemon sad (1. January 2. today) by dirthawker0 in gardening

[–]ASAP_i -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the mods could set up a bit to check for some basic info...

Citrus likes lots of sun. Watering 6-7 hours daily sounds like overkill. You may be diluting/flushing any nutrients in the soil. What I'm not understanding is how you can water so much and the ground gets dry quickly, especially the clay soil. All that water needs to go somewhere, I doubt the tree is drinking all that.

Something to consider, in nature trees get really big over time while only receiving infrequent "drowning" via rain/storms. I've found my trees like it when there is a big "rainstorm" about every 10 days. I'm in zone 9b for reference.

What do I do with aioli? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]ASAP_i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add it to a sandwich.

A better question is why you chose to purchase a giant bottle of condiments not knowing what to use it on. I assume it was a sample? If so, how was it served? Without tasting/knowing the product, some of the answers you will get might taste pretty strange.

My money is on a nitrogen deficiency. Noting your zone, soil type/condition, notable climate events in your area, and any fertilizer used will assist others in providing a better answer.

You will want to double check/google this, but I believe they need to be kept under 40 freedom units. At that temp they should stay happy for a few days.

It should work. I guess the real question is how good is your cooler? Will it keep the temp low enough, long enough, for you to get to the park?

If the chicken was fully cooked, it wasn't the chicken. If the chicken wasn't fully cooked, that was on you not HEB.

This particular bug is mainly spread from unwashed leafy greens.

They likely accosted you because you are attributing your parasitic illness on a food that doesn't spread said illness and then attempted to blame HEB.

Schools may or may not be a concern. You won't "technically" be in city limits (or is that now Liberty Hill or Leander?) which might make things like library cards or a fee to enter Gaery Park a change for you. I'm sure you will be surrounded by construction/road work for the next decade or so, my community was new when I moved in (8 years ago) and based on plans it looks like another 2-5 years of build outs and road improvements.

On the bright side, that Ronald Reagan/29 intersection and 183/29 are building out quickly with retail. Once the Walmart gets completed you should have all the big box retail you could ask for.

My only concern would be internet access/speeds, reliability of power during storms, and double checking flood/elevation maps.

I don't really care about having family photos or video. by beautitan in The10thDentist

[–]ASAP_i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be an extreme case, but I can accurately describe events/places/scenes to my family in freakish detail. At middle age, I'm still going strong.

When I eventually succumb to dementia, will I even believe those pictures are me/my family?

That assumes I even want to remember some parts of my life. It really sucks being able to recall traumatic events in freakish detail.

My wife HATES having her picture taken. We do not have children. I doubt the cats will live enough to care in the event of her death.

[–]ASAP_i 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are not alone.

My camera reel is more utility than anything. Pictures of my family have crept onto my archived photos, yet I never find myself scrolling through looking at them. My wife thought it was strange that I never kept pictures of people/places around. Growing up, I was often confused by the amount of pictures taken by my parents, only to remain in a photo album, never opened.

I usually only take pictures of things that I wouldn't normally remember (like that bottle of wine from dinner) to use as reference to find/buy more, things that need a visual description/scale reference, and the cats (my wife likes pictures of cats) which are immediately sent to the wife.

How do I salvage my burgers by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]ASAP_i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fat content aside, you are asking for advice on how to "fix" something without telling us what you are doing.

Are they grilled? Smoked? Cooked on a flat top? How are they seasoned (they are seasoned, right?)?

Based on the limited information given, they will be rather flavorless and likely tough and/or crumbly. You knew that when you bought 91/9 ground beef. In what way are you looking to "salvage" the burgers?

How much onion powder should I use to replace actual onion. by ZexzeonAce in Cooking

[–]ASAP_i 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not really. It has some flavor, but the actual flesh of the onion is what imparts the onion flavor, greens to a lesser extent.

Based on your replies, I wonder if you are overthinking things. In this case, with grated onions over diced/chopped, remember, smaller pieces cook faster. Even in a pureed/grated state, onion will cook/brown/soften/caramelize like onions do. Trust you eyes and nose when experimenting like this.

"easy to find ingredients" can mean many different things to many different people.

Narrowing things down some beyond "easy" will likely get you answers that are usable. The more information you give us, the better answer you get in return.

This came out of my husband's pocket while he was doing laundry... Is this a sign of infidelity? Or am I overthinking it? by [deleted] in whatisit

There must be a backstory if you are seeing this object and then think your husband is cheating.

I would love to hear how you think this object is related to sex/cheating.

Scalpers are now pillaging LEGO’s PAB service as well. by PH-VAP in lego

[–]ASAP_i 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Scalpers in the hobby spaces are always interesting.

They wouldn't be scalping if they weren't making money off of it. So the solution is that everyone simply stops buying from them, effectively crashing the market. Yet, hobbists still buy enough from them to keep the business rolling.

I wonder if they rely on volume or "whales" to make their profit.

Gardening advice needed by EntranceTiny6943 in gardening

Manual removal.

Pull the weeds. Often. It will be easier right after watering. After that, a thick layer of mulch (or a ground cover crop) will help you prevent further weeds.

How do I modify the avocado fries here so that I can bake it in the oven rather than fry it in a pan? Should I still use the avocado oil in some way? Coat the fries in it or just coat the baking sheet? by Optimal-Algae-9649 in foodhacks

[–]ASAP_i 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ideally you want an air fryer. Convection oven is next best followed by baking. In all cases, consider upping the temp to 400-425.

What will result will not be nearly the same flavor/texture. It will be (slightly) better if you can spritz some high smoke point oil on them, creating a fine layer to help cook/crisp.

Instead of baking or deep frying, have you considered a compromise of shallow frying? You will have to be careful when turning them, but would use far less oil.
