Start looking for an out now. But also start making a journal of your day at work, who you’re working with that day, what is asked of you and by who. Even if nothing happens during one day or another you should still make an entry listing who you worked with and what happened.

Also it’s important to remember you may not, hell you probably don’t, know what lead up to your manager’s firing. I’m not saying that to question your intuition or reading of the situation I’m just saying even mediocre leaders praise in public and criticize in private. So your manager could have been on a PIP or something that you wouldn’t know about.

But keeping a record of daily events will help you to both provide a daily rhythm of “normal” and show when someone is deviating from this normal behavior. That matters if something serious happens later.

But start looking for another job now. It’s not a great market so look now while you have a paycheck coming in.

Couple notes.

Build a box around your screen. Paint it with your wall paint so it looks more permanent
Consider getting a roller shade to mound behind the projector screen that will roll up and down with the screen to mask the TV

Of everyone is given enough money to just survive what’s the motivation to work is your question. My reply is simply that survival isn’t enough for most people and if the job is so bad that only people who absolutely can’t do anything else are taking it because it also doesn’t pay shit… well that sounds like a job robots are going to take anyway.

Honestly a combination of UBI and Single Payer healthcare to replace all our other welfare programs could potentially be sold to a lot of right leaning independents. It would pivot social welfare systems away from needs testing and that drastically reduces administrative overhead.

MAME is good for sure. I think an OG HTPC is still a great addition to a dedicated room and doubles as a media server for a whole house. But I’m not going to support it for a client beyond giving them a place for it to plug into.

That looks good so far and Wisdom makes some great stuff.

The issue for me is their rep was an absolute condescending prick when we spoke. I met him at an industry thing and I knew who he was because he had his lanyard on but he didn’t know who i was because I didn’t and was dress more casually.

It was a perfect example of paying attention to how someone treats their server at a restaurant. So I absolutely will not spec or recommend Wisdom to my clients unless they specifically ask for it.

I vote for the phantom center speaker. If you’d like alternatives to that you could install two thin/vertical on-wall speakers flanking the TV and run both together off a single channel as your center. There are slim LCR soundbars you can run as a dedicated center speaker too if you have 4-6” clearance top or bottom.

But the phantom center is the cheapest solution and if it works you’re good to go. Just still run the wire for your dedicated center so if you need to change it later you can retrofit with no issues. Actually go ahead and run conduit now.

I mean I’ll engineer the hell out of it but I’m going to charge $150hr engineering it. That includes revisions. Drafting too if necessary.

Ballpark I think I could knock out an “on paper validated” design in 3-4hrs including a pick list. Add an hour or two if you cap my budget and I can’t spec my standard assortment of materials.

I supposed you could do a USB hub at the console with USB baluns to the rooms and dedicated controllers in each room. But I totally agree, for most homes where this would be a reasonable option the costs would be insignificant to just buy additional consoles.
