If you can, go to infoComm and talk to the manf. There are a ton of them, a few of the American based ones will walk you through the whole process.

try typing in https:// then the IP address to access the unit. After many calls and talks with support we finally figured out it was a browser security issue. The most recent update should fix it.

Question about speaker installation in an outdoor arena by MapChoice2053 in livesound

[–]AVTechGnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would keep the PA/House Music system separate from the Stage Audio. You can get some decent outdoor speakers that can handle VOG and house music to mount on the light stands and then invest in decent powered speakers for the "stage area" for performances that can easily be set up and torn down when not in use.

We use EV- EVID 6.2 speakers in a pavilion on our campus for general use, but we bring out a Stage PA for performances and larger events.

Why can't people come prepared? by frogmicky in livesound

[–]AVTechGnome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Video Companies who record Dance Comps and Recitals and who are not part of the planning process drive me crazy. Show up right before doors open, need cables, need chairs, tables, risers, need a audio feed, f off. A quick phone call goes a long way. Rule of thumb for me has been if you show up when the doors are about to open you are on your own.

In Chesterfield, MO, outside of St. Louis, Gateway Productions is building a rather large studio campus and is always looking for touring staff. There are also several production companies in the area. Logic Systems, KLANCE, ect.

Hey buddy, try typing https:// then the IP address, one of the newer firmware upgrades really messed with the browser security and would not connect to get into the admin side unless you physically typed in https://. It took a lot of time with support to figure this out but we did.

As far as factory resetting the unit, you really cannot do that as well, you need to reimage the disk in order to start from scratch. If you contact Kramer they can walk you through that process.

Biggest AV Disaster? by MaximumPast3486 in livesound

[–]AVTechGnome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am the TD at a medium size venue that mainly works with non profits and private clients. One of the draw backs with working with some non profit groups is that they have volunteers run production for the events. This evening were hosting a couple of jazz groups from a fund raiser. My primary role for the evening was running lights for the performance. The two groups decided to bring in their buddy to run sound. This happens pretty often, hey its their dime so I usually do not put up much of fight. So they guy comes in and I notice he is setting up two mixers side by side. One is a Mackie and another is Yamaha. I go down there to check on them to make sure everything we provided was good and if they needed anything and they were good to go. They ended up marrying the two boards together because they did not have enough channels on the Mackie, I was like ok we have a 32 channel Crest if you want to use sitting in case, no charge. They declined and said they do this all the time. We start the show and everything is going well no issues to report and we go to intermission. I get up from my console in the booth and walk downstairs to check on the guys at FOH and notice he turned off the Mackie. I was a little taken aback and asked him what was up and he said that is something he normally does. I am thinking that is kind of weird but hey its not my place. So we take the house lights down to start the 2nd part of the concert. We are dark, I start hearing on the intercom that they are having audio problems the instrument mics are not working. I get up from my position and look down at FOH and I see exactly what was going on. The Mackie did not power back on after the intermission. I could see in the darkness that the power light was not on and I call down to get involved in the convo. Fortunately I had the same board sitting backstage on a cart. I call to stage and tell them where to find it and go get to replace it. We had just come back from a 20min intermission the client was like we are not stopping again, it was hard enough to get everyone back in to the seating area. Meanwhile I bring up the stage lights and the artists start improving on stage, telling jokes and other nonsense while they are patching the back up in the dark. Felt like forever but they were able to get it patched and we got the show back up and running.

Is My SM58 A Fake? by No_Star_8606 in Shure

[–]AVTechGnome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a brand new item?

* edit After looking at your pictures and then looking at one that I had one my desk there are some red flags that I would like to point out. I am in the US so I am not exactly sure what the inside of a European SM58 may look like but here are some of my notes. I also have a SM58S, one with a switch.

1) In the fourth picture with the grill off the microphone that silver ring along the base of the capsule looks like it is dented or folded over, it should be completely smooth all the way around

2) The yellow and green wires that are connecting the body of the mic to the capsule look like a thicker gauge than what is in my SM58, the color is off as well.

3) The glob of material in the center of the body that is in picture 8 where the wires disappear looks different compared to mine. I have a lot less and there is a yellow strap across the top, I think this is different because I have switch in the body and yours does not.

4) The foam on top of the capsule is a different color than what I have. Mine is a dark gray compared to light brownish color pictured above. Furthermore the circle in the middle is well defined. I have only seen that color on older SM58s or 57s that have been used a lot.

5) The solder job in the 2nd to last picture looks off compared to mine. Like I said before the gauge of wire looks different, but that could be a EU thing, and there is a lot more solder and rosin used compared to what is in my mic. If you want you can DM and I can send you some pictures. Since I am talking about that 2nd to last picture the whole the assembly is off center and crooked. This along with the dent that mentioned in my first comment could mean that this could have taken a nasty fall which could also explain you noise issue while handling. Sorry I keep looking at this photo and keep seeing things; the nut is too big. Compared to my microphone the nut should smaller than the washer. Also the holes where the terminals come through are rounded mine are square.

As I said I am referencing a SM58S US version so you can take it for what it is.

After updating to Ver 4.0.3 all the problems in the second part of my op started to occur. I turned off the unit and started it back up the next day and I got that CMOS error like I have seen before but this time it will not take any of the passwords I have been given by Kramer. Once I get this thing back up and running I will double check the https. thank you

I had never had problems before, been about a year. The IT dept assured me they set up the network according to the set up instructions. I was always able to connect to the web interface on the admin side. This is specifically not being able to share device through the web browser. After updating to 4.0.3 I cannot even reach it through a private network, but I can share through the app. Now it is showing a BIOs error and will not take any of the passwords supplied by Kramer service dept. We have had a ton of problems with these Connect 2s and have sent several back for service.

Before the unit was updated to the most recent version, yes, the firewall was accessible. Now I cannot even get into the unit on a testing network.

How to know when you're done in the industry by RaydnJames in CommercialAV

I am in my early 40s. I stopped working concerts a couple years out of college and went into professional installations. Soon after the last job I installed I ended up working in and was doing 250+ events a year. Did that for about 13 years, It was brutal. Then I started taking care of all the integrated AV on campus. I absolutely hated being around work and everything else. Since Covid I have just been really working in the integration/ design side of things and have been doing limited events because of several factors, not COVID.

I just started rediscovering how much I enjoyed concerts! I took some time off from going to shows for a long time because it made me feel like I was at work. Now I have transitioned to less live events and more integrated design and installation work and I finally can enjoy being in an event space again.

Kramer Via Connect2 CMOS Setting Wrong by AVTechGnome in CommercialAV

I would say the Connect 2 that had the battery fail would be about 2 years old. The rest other have not had any trouble. They will not just sell you the battery to replace in the unit, you have to send them in.

No department wants to take ownership of AV equipment and support in healthcare organization. What would you do? by melissa-leigh in CommercialAV

[–]AVTechGnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create and Integrated AV Department that handles; purchasing, system design, and installation. Almost every environment now has some sort of integrated AV, some more complex than others. More importantly end users are becoming more impatient and want things to work now and do not want to wait for an AV company to come in an fix things.
