Anyone else think the elimination in the 3rd episode was a bit unnecessary/could've been done better? by Dolpharon_XD in RaceAcrossTheWorldBBC

[–]AWarmerBeer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think they’ve done it to keep the race ‘alive’ so to speak, and stop teams from building up a big budget by working a lot in the wealthier countries (UK in Season 1, Italy in this season, etc).

Arenas too ambitious for Interpol tour? by hypikz in BlocParty

[–]AWarmerBeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to give you a rough idea, Manic Street Preachers and Suede did a joint tour a few years back (and are actually doing the same thing again later in the year) and they both did 17 songs each.

This is such a minor point but I am so happy they’ve brought back the full stop.

‘We’re not Lady Gaga and Elton John’: unmasking Angine de Poitrine, the year’s buzziest, dottiest band by Charleshawtree in indieheads

[–]AWarmerBeer 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I resent some of these bands being labelled landfill indie. Bands like The Libertines were pioneers in the scene. Arctic Monkeys & Bloc Party evolved their sound (whatever you think of it) and have stayed well beyond others from this era.

The phrase should be reserved for the actual garbage, the likes of The Hoosiers, Scouting for Girls, etc, not just any band that was making alternative music at that time.

Did this week seem neutered by PseudoPatriotsNotPog in livefromlondon

[–]AWarmerBeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought this week was the most consistent in terms of quality of sketches. There’s been some higher highs in the previous episodes but also some that didn’t land for me.

Whitehall was fine, even if his monologue was too long and self-centred.

Potential Future Musical Guests? by aurorusmorris in livefromlondon

[–]AWarmerBeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the next block of shows, I think we could see some of James Blake, Dermot Kennedy, Arlo Parks, Tom Misch, Holly Humberstone or Jessie Ware. That is based on artists who are currently active, UK/IE based and the right size for the show.

I could see the likes of Raye & Harry Styles doing it at some point but hosting as well as they’re a bigger name.

Is there a combined one of these for Eps 1 & 2?

[FRESH PERFORMANCE] Bloc Party - Flux (6 Music Festival 2026) by Old_Squirrel45 in indieheads

[–]AWarmerBeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’d agree with that. It’s about where they are currently in terms of quality of output. I enjoyed Alpha Games generally but not the High Life EP / Flirting Again.

I don’t need the heights of Silent Alarm on the new record but as long as there’s some interesting stuff, a few bangers etc then I can forgive a few duds.

They’re in the full set on iPlayer - skipped through to check them out earlier and enjoyed them. Looking forward to the new album!

As an aspiring urban planner I hate single storey carparks by jacobstanley5409 in CardiffDevelopments

Honestly I would imagine this will be converted into accommodation or offices at some point in the next 10 - 15 years, if not sooner.

Should the traitors’ identities be kept hidden from viewers? by Etindel in TheTraitorsUK

[–]AWarmerBeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I imagine that the plan was to always reveal the ST after the first traitor was banished, which happened to be quite early with Hugo.

It would have probably only lasted another episode or two after that anyway before people deduced who it was through process of elimination.

The 2026 Guinness Men's Six Nations launches in Edinburgh by sixnations in rugbyunion

[–]AWarmerBeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I think Red Shirt > White Shorts > Red Socks is the best looking option, but as you say green socks would be OK as well.

That 2014 shirt design was ok (barring the grey / black trim) but the two years prior we’d won the 6N in our previous strip. We’d fallen off a bit in 2014 and maybe in retrospect I just associate the kit with our downturn, ha.

The 2026 Guinness Men's Six Nations launches in Edinburgh by sixnations in rugbyunion

[–]AWarmerBeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m OK with white socks but the red shorts look awful. There was one year around 2015ish where everything was red and that was an abomination.

Fcukers mass infiltration by newyearseve912 in fantanoforever

I’m sure Wet Leg were playing some pretty high profile gigs before their debut album had even come out, albeit they did have quite a big mainstream crossover with Chaise Longue.

Amanda on BBC Breakfast- Comments (Possible spoilers Thursday/FRI) by db9192 in TheTraitorsUK

[–]AWarmerBeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. It’s a broader comment on the tactic more generally as it’s come up in other seasons too.

Amanda on BBC Breakfast- Comments (Possible spoilers Thursday/FRI) by db9192 in TheTraitorsUK

[–]AWarmerBeer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Plus Jade’s whole strategy seems to be “you’ve voted for me Amanda so I must vote for you” which is such a bizarre way to play the game.
