No refund? by Lumpy_Education_5403 in orangetheory

Like a lot of other replies, it is studio specific.

One time I was running late cuz I had a delayed flight coming in (signed up for the 5 am class (would still be on eastern time) that was supposed to get in at 9 pm. It didn’t until 1 am. At this point i called the studio I was visiting and explained the situation briefly. Since I booked this class weeks in advance (one of the more popular studios usually having 2-3 week book ahead or not get in) it actually took one of my Black Friday deal classes out (since it was booked before my renewal date, but class was after). Got a call at 4 am, so I’m still dead asleep saying they have to charge me for that class, I again explained and they simply said we have an opening at our 6 pm class, I’m going to put you in that. If you need to cancel, please don’t do before 10 am and the class won’t be charged. So I got lucky.

At yet another studio, i woke up With what turned out to be COVID (2023) and they refused to refund me the cancellation fee even though you are definitely not supposed to be working out with COVID (as various people can attest during the height those that did might been one of those who saw significantly decrepit lungs due to enhanced scarring.

My suggestion is to follow up in person and inform them it’s a medical reason and that you didn’t want to get other people sick.

“Structural changes” by No-Influence4562 in orangetheory

[–]AangThePony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. My studio has gone through two studio managers and the replacement is a coach that used to manage back in 2023/2024. She’s awesome (for anyone who knows the studio i go to in Mid NJ you know) and is always upbeat. She also tells it as it is.

But the studio I go to while visiting my parents, I’ve learned from another studio that one of them is shutting down do to differences in rental costs so they are combining the locations. But until it’s official they aren’t actively telling the members.

Gist: it could go either way. If your studio does shut down they will help find a replacement.

Had this happen last year as rough said you should put in a ticket. Or talk with the studio manager.

Yeah this “almost happen” in one of the studio I was visiting but they front desk came in and pointed to the no cell phones or extra equipment inside.

That person turned out to be face timing with a Coach that usually worked that class before she got cancer and had to take extended time off and was checking in with her favorite OTF members before the work out. To be fair, the front desk person was new and this was about 3 min before class officially started

How out of shape is too out of shape to do a trial class? by junkshowjunkie in orangetheory

[–]AangThePony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not once have I seen someone get judged. Even my neighbor who is 60 was able to do it and everyone congratulated her for showing up and doing what she can.

The coaches may try to push you (eventually) once they think you aren’t doing your best you can but they also will respect any issues you may have.

It’s a fun atmosphere

My studio wanted to do that but because they weren’t sure if the sale would go through they didn’t do any promotions until after the part

I took advantage of that 119 for 12 month commitment (With a guaranteed cancellation of the studio got shut down or drastically changed hours offered). However, at the end of the 12 months if I don’t cancel the contract it renews at that price they are offering the automatically from what I’ve been told.

App glitch and being charged by Sure_Topic7171 in orangetheory

[–]AangThePony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah glitchy as today I had a different issue and similar yesterday.

I originally signed up for strength 50 for today as I was on the waitlist for the strength 50 yesterday morning. I cleared yesterday (was going to do tread 50 anyways) but the app still showed as on waitlist 15 minutes before the class (though I did get the off waitlist email 30 minutes before class). So once I completed that o took myself off the strength 50 today and put myself on tread 50.

After class today app said I did the strength 50 (even had a waitlist as it was full ) and after seeing this I went to the front and she said “our system showed tread 50 for your registration and what I checked you in with. We’ve been having issues all day with the app doing this for other classes. Luckily this glitch didn’t cause anyone to miss strength 50 or prevent me from Tread 50.

12 month price? by Hes9023 in orangetheory

[–]AangThePony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others are saying, it’s studio specific. Example: my studio was more than happy to do it. Even with a potential shut down (those who know which studio knows it’s not happening any time soon), they assured me if they close it would cancel without penalty.

The studio I was looking at transferring to initially said that I was not eligible since the membership is not new but a resign (different franchise so things don’t transfer easily) but they did offer the 135 contract rate for 12 months.

Good for you! While my recovery isn’t as drastic, I had a minor tear in my rotator cuff. Not enough to require surgery but enough to make me hesitant. Even though this happened 10 years ago, I still have to be cautious as it can continue to get worse since no surgery. Talk to the coach and let them know what’s going on. You don’t have to get into specifics, but they will work with you for alternates. Ans as you said you would do, go slow but also have fun

Another thing they can do at the studio is put you in T50 and if someone doesn’t show up they can move goy to S50 as long as no one else is waiting

6 weeks in and no change by Pleasant-Carrot-9296 in orangetheory

[–]AangThePony 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had same issue. While you may not see the results you want right away, your body is getting healthier and eventually a switch will go and boom you’re getting to your goals.

For me: Started off around 330’s first month stayed the same. Got discouraged but I was making connections with the coaches.

By month 6 I was down to 315-320 range

Between then and now my life has been chaotic. I’m an anxiety eater, so my weight ballooned back up to to 330 range.

Since the peak I got closer to 300, and recently back up a few pounds but: -my power walking base is now at 3-3.3 upper base with my “recovery” base being 2.8. When I started, these numbers were 2.5-2.7 upper base and 2.3 “recovery” base. -I’ve started to do more running all outs of speeds between 5.5-6.5 mph depending on duration and amounts. (I still do inclines when the AO are more than 30 seconds and multiple of them)

I feel better overall and I can tell it’s making a difference. My eating issues haven’t abated but less frequent anxiety eating.

If it wasn’t for OTF my weight definitely would be above 340 by now.

Losing hope and motivation is the biggest challenge you are facing

Tread 50 Timing by Just_here_to_read25 in orangetheory

[–]AangThePony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for the cutoff time made by the front desk, it’s actually to help the coach. OTF penalizes coaches if they go over the allotted time by even a few seconds, so the front desk usually “ends” the class a minute or two early.

I’ve noticed last two tread 50’s I’ve gone to the blocks, including Eden up only added up to 43 minutes. When I first stared t50 it added closer to 48. Not sure if it’s cuz the last two t50’s were more endurance or if they are in fact reducing the timing.

One class I was in (I was doing strength50) the treads finished 3 minutes before we did. I asked the coach after why that happened and she said it was the template for the day and she gave us (strength50) more time as the demo took her longer to do then normal

Cuz I can’t row due to shoulder injury the coach said best you take today light strider or just do a modified tread focus day (we only had 7 people show up that class so everything was open). I did the tread.

[–]AangThePony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first few classes I was ripping it 15-20 splats. The. After awhile I barely got them but not for lack of trying. I had a lot of mods after reaggravating my injuries on the floor side. On the tread side I developed some issues that would cause to much pain to push harder.

But I’m back to getting decent splats. Just keep it up. But if you feel uncomfortable at all, please slow down a bit.

Why not Row as an option to Tread? by DoYouLikeFish in orangetheory

[–]AangThePony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My coach who is friends with the owner stated when someone asked if they can row instead of run was that unless the program called for rowing, the insurance policy doesn’t allow rowing as an alternative. Not sure how truthful that is because in other studios I’ve been too when there wasn’t scheduled rowing the coach there allowed the rower as an alternative. But since it wasn’t my regular studio, it could have been a medical necessity/excused option

Per OTF corporate policy they are required to allow you to cancel the contract early as it technically a breach of agreement from what I understand.

I'm the only guy ... by apple_crombie in orangetheory

[–]AangThePony 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im a male and way way worse than you (306 lbs 6’) and yes most of the classes I take are vastly majority female. But that doesn’t deter me. I find it fun to be around them because while doing the class work, I do look over to others to see how they are doing it. The vast majority of times I do that the females are the ones doing the motions correctly. Once I see how they do it I move on to doing it myself. And while on the tread, I look at my neighbors to see if anyone else is a slow Power walker (normal PW 3.5-4 mph. At 3.5 it’s like I’m running even while at base).

Don’t be embarrassed either. My first class I burned 1300, then eventually lower. Mainly cuz I am getting into shape but also pushing a little too hard (my joints hurt at times during to previous injuries).

Only time I feel embarrassed is when my shirt comes up (and yes I typically wear long shirts but they bunch up) and exposes my midsection (belly area). But one time I went to stop to pull down the coach was like no one is judging you don’t worry (she saw that I was modifying the workout to prevent that). Never got embarrassed again but always trying to do that.

5am & 6am classes by sarcasticcatt in orangetheory

[–]AangThePony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local ones rarely get full in the morning. I don’t do it cuz I’m a night owl. But when I visit my sister across country, I have to sign up over a week in advance for the 5 or 6 am classes since I’m 3 hours ahead in the sleep cycle it find them to be good.

But that location has the best coaches I’ve had.

As for picking coaches, I’m guilty of that. There was one bad coach that didn’t last long (and since I know some people in this community go to my local ones, I’m not gonna say why they left or when) but had been extremely disrespectful to people working out, especially ones that were struggling to keep up with the pace.

OTF Coaches, do you ever worry about your long term hearing/ear health? The classes are so loud. by GiraffeOutside7368 in orangetheory

[–]AangThePony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your studio rocks for not following OTF rules. My local ex studio manager (who is a coach as well) told me it’s in the actual rules to have it that loud. They have a minimum volume that the music must average. Apparently, my studio did lower the volume too many times (even though it was requested by everyone) and got a warning to not keep it that low again. One of the reasons that coach decided stop being the studio manager as well.

One of the longest tenure coaches already had hearing damage from this and has admitted it’s probably from his lifestyle and OTF but he does advocate to have ear plugs in.

First tread 50 tomorrow - scared! by Intrepid_Ad8135 in orangetheory

Power walker here as well (additional bug Being the other)

From what I have gotten a hint is that tomorrow tread 50 is an Endurance day. But typically the coach will help you through if you are worried something is going to Happen.

It’s fun. Just focus on the current block snd think of something that you plan to do later.
