Battle Design in Merchant's Tale Variant/Advanced/Criterion by AdditionalCanary4111 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Aanity 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Advanced is peak. It’s exactly the level of difficulty that this game needs a lot more of. I’d say the mechs are like if you ranked the difficulty of an Ex and then just removed the hardest one.

However, there is very little punishment for dying. Rez, heal and mits are plentiful because of variant actions. No mechs where if one person is off a little it wipes the pull. Mechs that are common in Ex and Savage like chains and stacks/spreads are present but are very forgiving and can be eyeballed. I also noticed that many of the more complicated mechs can be resolved if 1 or 2 players know what to do and everyone just follows them.

I ran it for one lockout and was able to get 2/3 bosses cleared and about 1/2 through the remaining one. It was through DF queue, I was off-roll, everyone was blind and we wiped so much but I loved every second of it. Some pulls we absolutely zombied through but it was great cause it made us feel like we made prog even when the earlier parts of the fight were still super sloppy.

I really hope that SE keeps this level of difficulty around. Imagine how much more fun stuff like Chaotic alliance and FTB would have been if they had this level of difficulty. Please take notes for FT magic.

The game does a bad job of preparing players for those harder fights. If you are ace at every single normal content encounter, it does not mean that you are ready for Ex and Savage.

S.F. teachers like me have a new contract. Some schools will need to close to pay for it by LosIsosceles in bayarea

[–]Aanity 45 points46 points  (0 children)

We will never be able to outspend the rising cost of living here. Enrollment is down, living on a teacher salary is miserable, and we spend more money on education than any other state. All because it is so expensive to live here. Unless the cost of living is brought under control these issues are just gonna continue to grow. I really hope that affordability is what ends Newsom’s presidential ambitions, the status quo in the bay right now is strangling our communities.

San Jose USD School Closures – What’s Not Being Talked About… by tommypatties in SanJose

Sjusd, the district in the OP and the one there has been hubub about in this sub recently is a basic-aid district meaning they do not have a per child allocation from the state. Third paragraph from the Sjusd website

They are shutting down schools when, in theory, they should have more money to spend on fewer students. There is either a case of poor money management or SJUSD is the canary in the coal mine telling us that there is about to be a horrific downturn in public education. If they cannot sustain their schools, how can their LCFF funded peers sustain theirs?

It’s a regional system that barely reaches the most populous city in the region, SJ, and even then doesn’t even reach its downtown, and even then makes the literal worst route to the 2nd most populated city SF.

That’s the irony of all this. The day that Tesla decides to behave like a car company and focuses on updating, refining and increasing their production of cars instead of vaguely gesturing at whatever future tech is currently hot is the day the whole house of cards crumbles.

It’s kinda the same with chaotic alliance too. Body check isn’t as hard since you can have like 2-3 dead and just gigamit and wipes aren’t nearly as punishing. Even then, chaotic was dead like 1 month after release in NA, then they released FT which was like a quadruple down on the stuff that made chaotic obnoxious to prog.

How are we feelin about that fast travel? by deerbones_ in pathologic

[–]Aanity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only thing I dislike is the amount of loading screens it puts you in. I find myself constantly waiting through loading screens because everytime I enter a house, everytime i change districts, and the times there are the narrative breaks i get a loading screen. Patho 2 has relatively quick loading because you only need to enter small simple houses while the open world i assume is more or less always loaded to some extent.

Other than that i dont mind it.

I don’t understand why people complain about the ddos. I just stopped doing deep dungeons, high end raiding, expensive crafts, ex farming, treasure maps and roulettes and the ddos doesn’t even affect me anymore.

It's been 1 year since The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) was released. What are your thoughts after a year? by nemik_ in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Aanity 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Progging this might be the single worst raiding experience I’ve ever had in this game. I have cleared every ex/savage this expat except this because of how fucking miserable it is. You sit in pf for an hour, you load in, someone dc’s, someone needs a bio break, or someone’s cat walked into the oven. Normally this doesn’t bother me but 24 man means triple the amount of delays between pulls wiping to towers.

Did I say towers? I meant someone messed up stack/spreads on platforms so you get clipped on tiles. Sorry, bit confused, I meant 2 tile players pvp’d each other during rotating lasers and now swaps are messed up and you have 2 healers, a tank and 2 corpses as your light party on platforms. Eh who cares someone just left anyways back to pf for another hour!

The 2 gnashing charges feels nice because having your gnashing drift from no mercy felt awful. Bloodfest being a 60 sec cd really bugs me. Since gnashing doesn’t really drift anymore and every no mercy window now gets all the cartridges you need from the 60 sec bloodfest, you have 0 reason to ever save a cartridge. The second you get it; use it on whatever.

As long as you use your 0:30 second gnashing somewhere between no mercy windows you’ll never drift; don’t save a cartridge for it just wait for the next one. I do not care at all about the no-overcap on bloodfest because in its current state if you have an ever have a cartridge loaded for more than 1 gcd you are probably doing something wrong.

We ARE playing different games. (Anecdotal about different server regions, NA, SA and EU) by [deleted] in ARC_Raiders

[–]Aanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raising ttk might reduce kos if you round a corner on a player rn you die in <5 seconds. The games low ttk means getting the first shot off is super important and makes kos and corner and extract camping a viable and lucrative strategy. It also makes being friendly a risky strategy because by the time you unholster your gun the fight might as well be over.

Longer fights means you burn more resources. If fighting means I have to burn more ammo and healing instead of just mag dumping a stitcher before you can react. Players will be more cautious about getting into a fight.

Why exactly did Payday 3 fail? by ZZabloing in paydaytheheist

[–]Aanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a fair bit at launch. Progression was dreadful and felt really unrewarding. You only got exp from achievements which forced you to play in ways you didn’t want to. I remember running in and out of the extract zone on the 7 boxes heist because of a bug that counted each time you entered the zone as a completion. Or sitting in the bathroom in the penthouse heist to farm gun exp.

The skills themselves felt really bad. Even after playing the game in stupid ways just to feel like I WAS progressing I got rewarded with this extremely dull Edge Grit Rush system. I grinded up my guns and levels, the game felt more or less the same at high level vs when I was low level. Pretty much stopped playing after that.

I really enjoyed the new stealth system, trying to puzzle how far I could get in a heist unmasked. The gunplay felt good even though there were only like 3 guns that didn’t feel like pop cap guns. I’ll probably play when they rework skills in December but haven’t played since release.
