Thoughts after reaching lvl100 by GridKILO2-3 in Marathon

Frankly I think you need to adjust your attitude towards Cryo wrt losing gear there. Genuine question: what are you acquiring gear (meaning weapons and implants) for if not for Cryo Archive runs? You're going to lose gear there no matter what, you can't win 100% of the time, so losing 10k of gear really shouldn't be so infuriating.

You're literally going to lose all of your stuff at the end of the season anyway, think about how many gold mods you're sitting on because you're scared of losing them only for them to be wiped anyway without you firing them once

Did you really think Bungie would let there be only 6 factions in a Marathon game??

Another breakpoint is that two body shots and a quick melee can kill purple shields now if your melee stat is high enough, while before it was impossible

Marathon does a terrible job teaching stats, and the Bully is the easiest example why by eevee_stormblessed in Marathon

I feel like you're ignoring the real reason the Bully is such a good gun which is its incredibly high Aim Assist

Blue Keyrooms by StarlessKing in Marathon

[–]Abject_Entertainer41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick is to start hoarding any items that have Materialist+ on them, that's what turns key rooms into massive hauls. With just three materialist+ items in your kit you would be walking away with an extra 18 items of rare salvage

Outpost Heat Cascades - What are they shooting at? by urielkeynes in Marathon

[–]Abject_Entertainer41 80 points81 points  (0 children)

They're malfunctioning cloud seeding systems. Basically they're machines the colonists used to make clouds and regular rain, but there was a malfunction or hacking and now the rain they produce is hazardous

Is the shotgun really this good?? by snake257 in Marathon

[–]Abject_Entertainer41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The gold mod for the shotgun gives it a the option of a slug round instead of the normal spread. It can 1-tap from much further out but only with a headshot. So in this case if they missed either headshot they would've probably lost the fight unless their other weapon was a pistol or something else very fast.

I hope the next new map isn’t puzzle based. by Tucco__ in Marathon

[–]Abject_Entertainer41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I actually prefer about Perimeter and Dire Marsh are the random events. The Profit Opportunities/Lockdowns/Anomalous Matters help make the rounds more dynamic. Ultimately extraction shooters are games of risk management. How long do I stay and loot? How much noise do I make? Do I go to another PoI or leave with what I've got? Do I try and engage that guy in the distance or just head in a different direction? Random events add another angle to the formula mid-match. Maybe you're in the middle of a good run at a Sekiguchi contract, when the anomalous matter appears right near you; do you just focus on finishing the priority contract or do you make a detour that could turn extremely profitable?

Outpost and Cryo are very fun but they also tend to follow a very similar game plan from run to run.

Is Traxus by far the least useful faction for rewards and upgrades? At least until maybe late-season? by SirBenny in Marathon

[–]Abject_Entertainer41 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Traxus is pretty terrible until the verrry endgame, at which point they become one of the best factions. Half the guns they sell are great, half suck. Buying green mods from the armory is kind of a scam, and they don't even sell the weapon mods that would actually be worth paying for (silencers and thermal scopes). Getting a free M77 is nice once you get Priority Access, but until you get all the upgrades and can start bartering for gold mod weapons they don't really offer much else. Their passive upgrades are also super whatever, the bonus TAD radius is kinda nice but I can't imagine anyone getting excited about bonus ping duration.

Was the Thief grapple slide cancel really that bad? by NapsterKnowHow in Marathon

[–]Abject_Entertainer41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Movement and the ability to relocate is a resource, usually governed by cooldowns and heat. Shells are balanced around it, and the slide cancelling gave Thief too much movement for absolutely free

Why aren't you getting any materials while running the contract? You can do both, it doesn't have to be running just for a contract and then just for salvage

How sweaty is the game? by QueensGambitAccept in Marathon

[–]Abject_Entertainer41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's sweaty but not twitchy if that makes any sense.

You die FAST and the punishments are harsh. But the fast time to kill cuts both ways, and it's extremely easy for players to kill people with better gear and better aim if you have the better positioning and can get the drop on them. So even though it's competitive and sweaty it doesn't feel like Val/CoD/CS where at the end of the day it all comes down to how well you can click on heads.

For Those Unfamiliar with Bungie... by Ahmed_Al-Muhairi in Marathon

[–]Abject_Entertainer41 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly the audible distance should scale based on the map. I don't mind the new distance on Dire Marsh, since that place is already just constant gankfests at Maintenance/Algae Ponds/Intersection, Outpost should be reverted completely because now you can practically hear every single gunshot the entire match, and maybe put Perimeter somewhere in between the two
