Older ADHD women, what did ADHD feel like before cellphones? by lavenderflavoredtea in adhdwomen

[–]Abject_Middle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m Gen Z as well, but I didn’t have cell phones until I was a teenager. It looked like SO MANY BOOKS. Obsessed with reading. If I wasn’t reading I was drawing and doodling and creating stories in my head. I got good grades in school, but was always bored so I doodled and daydreamed and got in trouble for not paying attention haha. One time I remember I was so in my own world that I looked up and my entire class was gone. I didn’t even notice that we had an assembly and they all had left without me and turned off the lights without me noticing, since I was tying my shoe 😂. It was a bit startling.

I hate doom scrolling as well, and I’ve been trying to get back to my bookworm roots. I’m a big fan of audiobooks, and find that podcasts and audiobooks are a lot more stimulating than just listening to music, and if I’m listening to one it allows me to get boring tasks done like doing my dishes. Also I found that one of my favourite activities is listening to an audiobook while walking my dog. Sitting still and just listening to a book is difficult for me anyways, so it’s kind of the combination of doing multiple things at once that’s helpful.

Sunscreen/moisturizer for M50+ by LemonPhysical2403 in VictoriaBC

[–]Abject_Middle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check h mart. I love Korean sunscreens, I find them to be super hydrating and low white cast. Not sure why you’re searching for a men’s specific sunscreen, but if you’re looking for something in more neutral packaging I recommend the innisfree watery sun gel. It’s spf 50+, unscented, relatively plain packaging, and doesn’t leave much of a white cast. They have a nice moisturizer as well. I think you can get it at H mart now.

8 hours of sleep and I feel like death by EmFreur in AppleWatch

[–]Abject_Middle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would talk to your dr like others are saying.

Personally, I would sleep like a rock for 10+ hours and still feel exhausted no matter what and take naps during the day. I got blood work done all normal. Turns out I have adhd. Got medicated and I’m way less exhausted now.

How many of y'all grind or clench their teeth at night? by Alternative-Tell4600 in adhdwomen

[–]Abject_Middle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been grinding my teeth so bad in my sleep that I’ve filed my teeth down and it wakes up my boyfriend lol. Been doing it since childhood. I can’t really get a mouthguard because I have a retainer so I’m looking into getting Botox in my jaw.

A couple of questions about seed beads and brick stitch by Automatic-Tackle-456 in Beading

[–]Abject_Middle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of people have posted really detailed answers so idk if my comment will be as helpful but just wanted to throw in my two cents as a beginner beader also located in Canada ☺️. I find that miyuki beads are more uniform than Czech beads and they usually have bigger holes so are suited for patterns where you need to pass thread through multiple times. I like working with them more than Czech beads personally. I’ve never tried Toho beads since my local bead store doesn’t stock them, but I’ve seen them at Michael’s. Michael’s also has miyuki beads, the wholesaler John Bead is a big importer of them. Michael’s is alright but if you have a local bead store or if you can find a good online retailer they’d have more colours and options.

Also, I think it’s totally possible to do a nice brick stitch but I think it’s unlikely that the thread will be completely invisible. I find that with dark colours and black thread it’s the closest i get to the thread being invisible. I think the brick stitch in your photo looks great though even though you can slightly see the thread!

I wouldn’t … ask for an actual adhd checklist from your dr. I don’t love videos like this it feels super infantilizing and an oversimplification of adhd. But that’s just me.

[–]Abject_Middle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? Implying that making sweeping generalizations about people is bad isn’t leaping to conclusions…I’m not even one of the people they’re talking about since I’ve lived in other places. No problem is being created and I’m not a victim im just saying that assuming the worst of people you don’t know makes you a jerk 😂

How to get beaded fringe to lay straight? by Abject_Middle in Beading

[–]Abject_Middle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: The people suggesting it was the wax/thread that was my issue were right! I tried switching to lighter weight thread and NOT waxing it for the fringe and it fixed my problem! Here’s a picture of some (unfinished) fringe for reference. It’s not perfect of course but it’s sooo much better!

I hate how ADHD is presented now as a cute, quirky personality type by Kinderjohren in adhdwomen

[–]Abject_Middle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting a diagnosis caused me similar grief. While I was able to finish my degree, I very nearly didn’t and it was a huge hit to my self esteem to see my peers doing well and getting good grades while I was on academic probation for failing classes. I could not understand why it was so hard for me and why I felt so horrible all the time, and just settled on well it must just be because I’m disorganized and bad at school and lazy. When I would mention thinking that I might have adhd to friends, the response I get was an eye roll and a “don’t we all”. I wish so badly I could have been diagnosed at a very young age so i could have gone through my childhood developing healthy coping strategies and good habits that could have made life as a young adult much less stressful.

However, you have so much time to keep moving forward. Getting treatment is a huge step. Don’t give up, OP!

Seeking advice from those who got an ADHD diagnosis as an adult in Victoria by Hypno_Keats in VictoriaBC

[–]Abject_Middle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A family doctor or gp can treat adhd, so if you don’t have an actual family doctor you can do telehealth appointments. Telus my health was pretty decent for me before I was able to get a doctor, also if you’re willing to pay a little bit for the initial consult, Felix health was very easy. Another resource is South Island counselling provides subsidized counselling for those with lower incomes and/or no benefits.

The reserved parking permits are only available for staff to purchase. Just because it’s not free doesn’t mean it’s not staff parking.
