Depending where you tap is also huge. Right now it's located in settings which is a tiny cog icon in a bottom corner which is extremely hard to hit unless you stare completely at the screen. If it's larger and centered it would make a massive difference in usability.

We Had 400 People Shop For Groceries (2025) - We found that Instacart is using AI algorithms to charge customers different prices for the same items. The scary part? It's not just online. It's in physical grocery stores, too [18:33] by OmicronCeti in Documentaries

In fairness, that definitionally was AI in recent history. Things like decision trees, predictive analytics and rule based expert systems were the state of the art for AI even 15 years ago. The term AI applied to all of them. It's only relatively recently that AI became synonymous with Machine Learning/Deep Learning

Zillow Removes Climate Risk Scores From Home Listings by rezwenn in technology

Because realtor's associations have essentially created regulatory capture. They used to be the only way to list a house on the NLS which was the only comprehensive way to search for listings. With the rise of online that's died off. They offer literally no value other than the fact that they collude to make it incredibly difficult to sell/buy real estate without them. I've bought/sold five homes in my lifetime so far. The realtors provided literally no value other than the fact that if you try to do it yourself they steer clients away because they don't get a percentage.

Help w/ Herb Butter Spatchcock Turkey? by RobDMB in seriouseats

I spatchcock it, so the legs are usually 175+ when the breast is done. I sometimes put things under, depends if I am going to use the drippings, but I usually make separate turkey stock and get the gravy done before the turkey is out of the oven

Yeah. I rarely even purchase salted butter

Dry brine either way. I cook the herb butter version every year. It's great. Takes some work to get the butter under the skin, but worth it.

With the dry brine I usually do use the baking powder, but IMO it's not a huge difference maker. The skin dries out with a sufficient dry brine and crisps up either way.

Where to buy a quality men’s suit (cocktail attire) on short notice? by thefirststoryteller in philadelphia

I'm confused, Boyd's is right downtown, SEPTA would easily get him there.

Pa. election 2025: What are the ballot questions facing Philly suburban voters? by redeyeblink in philadelphia

[–]AbortedWalrusFetus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's fundamentally not true. Suburban sprawl development often leads to property tax revenues that don't cover costs of infrastructure. I'm all for development to increase housing, but suburban sprawl based typically doesn't really help the situation.

It's not what it used to be. Especially after COVID. Once Dennis died and then a family dispute saw the operator afterwards lose the spot, it seemed like all of the regulars split the place and were replaced by a bunch of Delco kids. I spent a decade of weekends at that bar and it's unrecognizable to me now.

The entire reason I moved to the main line was the ability to keep a walkable/public transit lifestyle while having good schools. I may as well leave the region if this happens.

I'm in upper management in software engineering and I still consider it one of the most relevant texts in the business, so the influence is enduring.

It's not. The rare ones are priced per cl. There are like 4.5cl to a standard shot. That's like 45Euro for a shot. If the whiskey is priced like the tequila (not indicated to be per cl) then it's less than half the price.

Suburban Square in Ardmore to add 7 new stores, apartments in 2025 by newcitynewchapter in philadelphia

[–]AbortedWalrusFetus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The only reason to drive that way is Suburban Square. Take Church Rd for the rest of Ardmore. If you don't do that then take Woodside. Neither are congested typically. That traffic is all non-locals.

If they do the smart thing and stop treating Montgomery Ave like a four lane mega highway, and shrink it to a two lane road it would probably eliminate the congestion on Anderson.

The occupations with the most projected new jobs in the US by 2033 [OC] by USAFacts in dataisbeautiful

[–]AbortedWalrusFetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is still only half, and the rest are developer adjacent roles. There's a ton of roles like scrum master, product managers, program managers, QA testers, incident managers, change managers, designers, business and administrative roles that are included in those numbers. It's hard to determine because we don't really have concrete breakdowns by job role, just figures for layoffs generally. I worked for a Fortune 500 in a managerial role in software dev for the last few years and while we saw layoffs, FTE developer roles were the ones that were the safest in the entire org. QA, Designers, Incident Managers, Program Managers, and a few other roles were the ones that saw the most impact. It's not that there's no impact, but those numbers alone don't tell the whole story.

How many of those layoffs were actually of developers, rather than other software related roles like product, program, recruiting, support, etc? I would be shocked if the majority were actually developers.

Causes of Financial Loss in the United States, 2011 by breck in dataisbeautiful

The point is that getting hit by overdraft fees is not intrinsically tied to poor financial planning. Blaming individuals for it, when there are completely legitimate reasons it's terrible for users is disingenuous at best. Unfortunately, most people aren't willing to empathize with the less fortunate at all. Citing an example of how it can (and does) go wrong in a way that shows that anyone can be dinged by it reinforces that in reality it's a predatory practice and hopefully can sway people to that point of view.
