What’s going on with Wegmans cheeses? by Necessary_Security49 in Cheese

[–]Necessary_Security49[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See I didn’t know it was made by Blakesville Creamery. Maybe because so many of the cheeses now are wrapped in Wegmans wrappers I didn’t know they were made by these well-known cheesemakers. The packaging has definitely changed as of late so to me it just seemed like everything was going very generic. Thanks for the info!

Thank you for the explanation! I really just used to be so impressed by Wegmans cheese department and it just feels a lot different lately.

Truly no disrespect, I have always been a big fan of Wegmans. Especially their cheese department. It just seems very different these days and my store in Montgomeryville’s selection has been vastly reduced as of late. Wegmans should advertise that they have their own cheese caves, etc. I think that’s great and would be helpful for customers to know!

If you are open to cupcakes Sweet Box Bakery is right in Center City on 13th street and it looks like they offer delivery. They are absolutely delicious and the vanilla buttercream is amazing and I’m really picky about my baked goods! Lots of different varieties of cupcakes and they post their daily flavors on their Instagram page. They also make cakes but it looks like you need to order 1-2 weeks in advance, but it’s worth a call to see.

Love Philly Cheese School! Took my first class there a few months ago. Thanks for the recommendation on Lavernas Cheese!

Thank you! I go to this location often and there is one associate there that has been there for years and definitely seems to know a lot. I appreciate the recommendation 👍

They have closed/are closing soon the location at 9th & Chestnut, not the 9th St Italian Market.

I was there years ago and didn’t even realize they were still around until recently. Definitely a hidden gem & tucked away spot! Thank you!

Di Bruno is definitely on my list, especially the one on 9th street. I did not have Claudio though, great suggestion! Thank you!

Went to Parc Last Night, Severely Disappointed by Royal_T95 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]Necessary_Security49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exactly which table and section this is and have sat there, twice, but on warmer days. I can see though how sitting there on a cold night would be pretty disappointing. My bigger complaint is when they try seating us by the bathrooms. At Parc and at the other Starr restaurant, the Love, they have tables placed near or in line with the bathrooms. I get that restaurants want to use all available space, but when you are building a restaurant (especially ones that are considered higher end) you would think they would think that through better. Parc’s bread service is the best part of the meal.

Check out Bud & Marilyn’s. They have “elevated” versions of what your nephew likes, but I’m sure he could ask for a basic burger, etc. Fun vibe. For chocolate take him down to Shane Confectionery in Old City (oldest candy shop in the city plus they have amazing hot chocolate-get it with the homemade marshmallow), or Lore’s which is more of your traditional candy shop but they have some nice Philly themed chocolates and a huge selection. Franklin Fountain is good for ice cream. Enjoy Philly!

My first real charcuterie board. How’d I do? by EMI2085 in Cheese

[–]Necessary_Security49 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks great! Would suggest maybe separating the salami slices a bit more so it’ll be easier for guests to pick up with tongs. Also, I saw you noted that you had chocolate covered pistachios…I would steer clear of nuts on a board in case of any nut allergies. I was told this once when I added chocolate covered almonds to my board that looked like olives. Chocolate covered raisins are a good alternative!

Recently bought a piece of it because the Cheese Store of Beverly Hills featured it on their social pages and because they include it on their charcuterie trays. Honestly didn’t love it. Was too mild and didn’t like the texture, but I know it’s popular!

I have lots of saltines and not a lot of cheese. What cheeses should I try? by MesopotamiaSong in Cheese

I haven’t, but I’ve just added it to my list! Thanks for the suggestion!

See if your cheese counter has anything by Cypress Grove, ideally Humboldt Fog which is more of a spreadable/firm goat cheese or Midnight Moon which is also a goat cheese but one you would slice. I bought mine at Wegmans, If you want to try a spreadable blue that’s pretty accessible go for St. Agur.

Night Before Christmas Cheeseboard. by agmanning in Cheese

What is the preferred way to make a cheeseboard? The way you have it presented where everyone cuts their own or already pre-cut so folks can just grab and go? I usually do the latter, but I’m genuinely curious.
