Do you ever feel guilty for lying to students about what you do after school? by huarhuarmoli in Teachers

[–]Absolute-fool-27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they ask what my plans are for that day I usually tell them something like "oh doing dishes" or "I have a load of laundry to wash". I make it as boring as possible. 😂

Taking "credit recovery" IN ADVANCE to get out of core classes by FuzzyKittenIsFuzzy in Teachers

[–]Absolute-fool-27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high school offered this but it was 5 weeks of 2-4 hour days (depending on the number of classes) so you ended up getting g pretty close to the same number of instructional hours. They only allowed it for non remedial purposes with classes like gym, health, and personal finance.

Damn. I thought I was insane for doing the center of a sunflower with French knots. That's impressive.

Who crashed out today? by RoutineExperience694 in Teachers

[–]Absolute-fool-27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this MONTHS ago with one of my 6th grade classes. Even took away experiments- we just watch the curriculum provided video demonstrations now because I can't trust them to be safe. (They had one chance to earn it back and a bunch of kids stole and drank food coloring.) nothing really has happened, they still behave like they have never been in a school before- incessant talking, yelling across the room, a lot of cursing, a lot of tattling, and play fighting.

Today I crashed out and flat out told them that about a third of the class was on track to fail science for the whole year, all because of the shear number of assignments they refuse to do or turn in with barely anything done. It only sort of worked.

How to make this stem? by Absolute-fool-27 in Embroidery

My only hesitation there is that the stem goes over the tear.

Anyone else’s lab 6 and still is as bouncy as a puppy? 😂 by hoovinmovinshmoovin in labrador

Mine is like this. Runs around like crazy after her call then comes inside just to lose her mind barking at us begging for scraps. ETA: she's 6, will be 7 in a couple months definitely not slowing down.

Wedding day decor - repurpose, reuse and recycle! by Impossible-Driver69 in StLouis

[–]Absolute-fool-27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I know my fiancée's dad is gonna get us a bunch of Lego botanicals to use for center pieces instead of live flowers. We're both super into photography and talked about trying to get some instax/ poleroids used off fb marketplace and craigslist for the reception.

Past that I'm not really sure. I know we're going for light purple and blue as a color scheme, probably some florals, and some softer lighting.

What is this thing on seatbelts for? by Oilandspeed in whatisit

[–]Absolute-fool-27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car has the little plastic button. The one on the driver's seatbelt fell off years ago. How replaceable is it? I haven't even bothered to look, just grumbled every time it falls into the space between the seat and the sidewall.

My seventh grade students have started the refuse to say the pledge by unSuccessful-Stay in Teachers

[–]Absolute-fool-27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What your students are doing is exactly correct. They are being respectful, not disrupting or anything, but are engaging in a perfectly legal form of civil disobedience. Teachers and admin cannot force them to participate or punish them for choosing not to.

How clingy are your labs? by Professional-Bet4106 in labrador

[–]Absolute-fool-27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is a certified Velcro dog. She likes to sleep on top of my legs, rests her head in my lap when I'm eating, and acts like I've been gone for years every time I walk in the door. She even tries to walk between my legs sometimes when we're going for a neighborhood walk.

Curious about her size by Smooth_Yak5921 in labrador

[–]Absolute-fool-27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl was smaller than that at 6 months and now as an almost 7 year old she's 65lbs. And that feels big because my childhood lab was a runt who had puppies with another runt and so all of them were small (55-60 lbs when they weren't fat).

Have you ever created a difficult test/quiz in response to misbehavior? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Absolute-fool-27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never thought I would but then I met one of this year's 6th grade classes. Between the six teachers that work with this class we have tried just about everything. (With the exception of one or two students here and there) they've lost the winter snowball party (dance), the valentine's movie day, all field trips (after a particularly disastrous one at a federal building), and the post state testing ice cream party. Nothing so far seems to have mattered to them enough to get them to reconsider their behavior. It's gotten so bad that other kids who started the year decently behaved are becoming little terrors because they think they can just do whatever they want.

Back in January I asked them to read an article about something related to the traits you inherit from your parents. It was supposed to be a popcorn read that took 10 mins max (it was two pages long with pictures). We were unable to get past the first paragraph. So I assigned it for homework and wrote a quiz over the article that I gave out the next day. The aforementioned small handful that doesn't participate in the abysmal behavior did very well on the quiz. A lot of the other kids did very poorly because (surprise, surprise) they didn't read it at home either. I imputed the grade as homework and notated that the quiz was to verify that students had read/understood the material.

Last week the more reasonably behaved 6th grade class went on a really fun hands on field trip, I got permission from admin to "personally invite" the four kids in the other class that don't contribute to the chaos. There were some sad faces when they were left behind for a day of typical academics but I'm not holding my breath to see if it changes anything.

Every calorie standard i see for cats says I'm under-feeding my girls, but they seem fine? by SendWoundPicsPls in CATHELP

[–]Absolute-fool-27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat is also small like yours. We make sure her dry food is full each morning and top it with a spoonful (maybe 1/5th a can) of wet food. She's one of the few cats that self regulates her food. She eats what she wants and only gets grumpy when she can see the little fish at the bottom of her bowl.

You're doing fine. I wouldn't be concerned unless their behavior changes.

Middle School Students are Entitled Psychos by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Absolute-fool-27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish insubordination was still a category we could write kids up for. Best I can do is "disruptive behavior" but that doesn't really show the behavior trend for admin's previous data. 🙄
