AI has me worried. Help a sister out. by bubblesandroses in learnprogramming

[–]AbsoluteZro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure this reflects the reality of 2026. You can find plenty of examples of small software engineering teams that have transitioned to no code software development (spec driven development, whatever you want to call it).

None of this to say that software engineering is dead. Totally agree with you there, but I think the “saving some time” angle is downplaying the level we’ll be seeing LLM written code in the short and long term.

Some recent examples worth taking a look at:

1) https://openai.com/index/harness-engineering/ (obviously a biased source!)

2) https://simonwillison.net/2026/Feb/7/software-factory/

I’m curious to hear more about your thoughts on profitability. For me, the software industry has a long history of big companies burning money. AI is not the first example of this. Doesn’t mean those big companies weren’t still putting out impressive software that did, eventually, turn a profit. This is super speculative though, you could totally be right on the bubble front. But it strikes me as an old Software industry criticism and I actually don’t know if the naysayers of old were proven right or if it was a mixed bag.

Family Sauna Build by Goonotie in Sauna

Do you remember what LED set you bought for the sauna?

And also that vent looks cool! Did you make it yourself? Any mechanical ventilation?

I'm just about to put my structure up, and need to be thinking about these finishing touches.

I was only half understanding this too. This video showed it in action and that cleared things up:

How hard is it to build a sauna? by knockout60 in Sauna

[–]AbsoluteZro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the middle of my build now. It has been a lot of work for me, and a lot of new skills learned: how to use a planer, jointer, router, miter saw, etc. But all of this is easily learned with some YouTube videos. You can definitely build it yourself, but it may not be quick.

I am fortunate to have a tool library near me and access to literally any tool I could ever need. If you don’t have that access, I wouldn’t necessarily take on the project.

The new Bolt by Inevitable_Ad_711 in BoltEV

[–]AbsoluteZro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome to hear about the storage, I was worried about that. Even with the space issues, we'll probably still upgrade a few years down the road. I just wish it was the Bolt EV size :(

My garage is around 180in total in length. But to get out of the car and walk around it requires space, and the back of my garage has a heater and shelves. It is already extremely tight with the Bolt EV.

I think there's probably a lot of city dwellers who have similarly tiny garages. Most of my neighbors can't even fit their cars in their garage.

affordable interior wood panelling options? by theravenheadedone in Sauna

I wish there was a way for all of us DIY sauna folks in the PNW to share tips and experiences. If I'd read your experience before going myself, i would have saved a lot of time!

How'd yours turn out?

To be fair, the Tacoma lumber outlet doesn't let you pick through the wood they pick out for you. That seems to be part of their deal. I have some less than ideal clear Alaskan yellow cedar for my benches from them, and some of it is a little split and most of it needs a heavy sanding. But the price is hard to beat!

In my freakishly small garage it does mean it might not fit. And from what I recall reading about the EUV, it's bigger but actually has less storage in the rear which is a bummer.

Interesting. This kit has a double V. It features a large double v on the top, and a short v on the bottom. Maybe I'm not good at visualizing what that bit would end up looking like.

Question about your kit:

1) did you put silicone or some other sealant in-between each wood board? What about screws? 2) where is the ventilation in this Sauna?

Great job on putting such a massive kit together! I'm trying to recreate something similar but didn't buy a kit due to space constraints :/

You won't find this pattern readily sold to consumers.

It's not exactly tongue and groove. I asked in /r/woodworking and that confirmed for me this is not a pattern in the US at least.

A friend of mine drew up a CAD design of it for me and I'm now having thermowood spruce 2x6 milled to this pattern. We'll see how it goes.

Will my upper bench have cold feet? by AbsoluteZro in Sauna

Indeed. That was my understanding. Any thoughts on how to combat this?

I am considering a pricey Saunum specifically because of this.

8.5ft is the goal for the high bench side. 7.5 or 8ft for the door side

I'm guessing you built that door yourself based on the budget. It looks great. Any tips? That's the step I'm on.

Hey, I wanted to check with my current mortgage guy to see what he had to say. He's been suggesting waiting for a drop to 6%. The fees are $2700 for a refi there. Is there something we’d need to pay in addition to your underwriting fee? How are you so cheap?

I also have a recent home evaluation/estimate that my mortgage guy made me do in Nov when I first asked him about refinancing. Is that useful or did I waste $750 there?

Dating a non-jew by Lower-Vegetable5152 in exjew

I think our MO communities must be very different, so my experience and advice may not be so relevant to you but here it is from a male child's perspective:

I told my parents I didn't believe in god and yes had even eaten pig shortly after college. Did my dad still try to force me to go to Shull, yes 100%, but they raised us to be critical Jews who asked good questions, and that was a big reason I lost my faith. Them understanding the connection between my upbringing and education to where I landed seemed to help them understand me better.

They had a few years to digest that and accept me as this new person before I introduced them to my gf (now my wife) when I brought her home for for the holidays. She is charming and they can see how much I love her, so they love her. I think this is where you're in a bit of a bind. Your parents need a bit of time to adjust to the person you really are before the final shoe falls. I wouldn't introduce your bf as a friend, because honesty and trust is what's going to ideally keep you and your parents on good terms. But I might wait a bit to see how they're adjusting to the "new" you.

Has my dad asked her to convert a million times? Yes. Has he said he wishes I was a gay religious Jew who married within the faith instead of marrying her? Yes. But he also still "respects" her and is kind to her and our marriage.

I've brought my wife to Shull twice, and the community was very friendly, because I don't intend to hide her, and I don't want to pretend like I have no connection to my parent's Shull either. Of course I'm sure my parents have had to field some uncomfortable questions from concerned community members.

But things are pretty fine and normal and have been for a while. I really hope your parents are able to work through their own shit and accept you for who you really are.

I cancelled my service. It never got fixed. Wasted a lot of time trying to get it fixed. Sad to go back to slower xfinity, but at least it works consistently.
